  • Freakin' Johnny , phat cat blues !!!!!

  • Can anyone tell some more guitarsolos like this?

  • thanks johnny!

  • He is one of those dudes - like Danny Gatton, or Shawn Lane - that just plays MUSIC. Whatever style, whatever venue, the guy just plays his ass off, and beautifully. So awesome.

  • He have a same style of Eric Johnson.

  • what a star .. if this guy gets any dislikes, they will be thrashed with barbed wire.......

  • Saying this is AWESOME is putting it lightly. The boys got some serious chops and knows how to use them!!! :-)

Having a soul for playing the blues simply cannot e taught and/or learned. Either one has it or one does not. Unfortunately, many play 'at' the blues.. who do not.

  • Great tone and irresistible phrasing. I'm a fan.

  • fat man can play them blues

  • @ruprup69bang YES MY SUGAR.....IM REALLY GETTING INTO IT NOW......I LOVE YOU TOO...SO SO MUCH....XXX

  • My two favorite guitar players ever are Danny Gatton and Shawn Lane. This solo is like a perfect mix between them. I'm going to have to have 3 favorite guitar players now.

  • @jasonspell So, i'm not the only one noticing a glimps of Danny Gatton in his playing style ;-). Although I think perhaps Johnny is flawless, I think Danny is perhaps more creative after all. I'm going to check out Shawn Lane in a minute . :-) Thanks for the subtle hint :) ... I really like Stevy Ray Vaughan and Johnny Winter as well, although their styles are different.

  • @gogobram Trust me, Johnny is extremely creative. Check out his solo albums.

  • is he using the GTR software here?

  • DANG DANG DANG DANG!!!!AN DANG

  • Just electrifying

  • 0:00 - 0:05 slow blues jam ?? =)

  • such an undiscovered underground player. he plays good. really good.

  • THEY SHOULD HAVE HAD THIS FELLOW PLAYING ALL THROUGH THE BLUES FESTIVAL, INSTEAD THE LAST ACT.

  • OH MY, JUST WHEN I THOUGHT I HAD ALL THE BLUES GREATS FAVORITED IN MY YOUTUBE ACCOUNT, THEN I CAME ACROSS THIS HOT SHOT LICK PLAYER, AND I MEAN HE IS BURNING UP THE NECK HERE AND REALLY TELLING THE NEWS. THERE IS SO MUCH TALENT OUT THERE THAT HAS NEVER YET BEEN DISCOVERED. IS HE PLAYING THOROUGH THE LECTRONICS SYSTEM HERE GOING CORDLESS? WHO WOULD THINK BY LOOKING AT HIM WALKING DOWN THE SIDEWALK, THAT HE WOULD BE A FELLOW WHO COULD ROCK THE BLUES LIKE HE DOES HERE? MIND BLOWING!

  • WHAT TYPE OF AMP IS THIS FELLOW PLAYING THROUGH?

  • Comment removed

  • Nice touch... sweet...

  • This guy has just slipped into my top five favourites after Jeff Beck, James Page,James Marshall Hendrix and Stevie Ray V.

Just brilliant. Please come to England John boy.

  • I want a velvet suit!

  • fatass, badass at quitarrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

  • no haters... thats a bonus track

  • 0:00 OMFRICKIN GOD

  • Am i wrong or i've never seen this man on Crossroads stage?

    Shame Mr. Clapton.

  • The order in which he plays his notes is truly 'greatness'.

  • Have you released this on DVD YET wish you would its great

  • Awfully-windy at that show, wasn't it?

  • holee shit this guy can really play this guy is awesome

  • when I die I wanna come back as Johnny Hiland.

  • First time ever hearing about Johnny Hiland just this minute. Brilliant.

  • born to play the blues

  • Serious killer skills man. This is what the blues is supposed to be, betcha Robert Johnson and Howlin' Wolf stood up in their graves. May I have the tabs please, Johnny? Also, what kind of effects and amps are you using, not that it would make a difference for the rest of us... Fan 4 Life.

  • @smokinbluzvalv sorry to pick on you, but whats with you guys all asking for tabs? learn to play and learn music theory and you won't need tabs! blues is about feeling, not copying someone note for note on something that came from their heart. Johnny is a great player, and you can hear his influences, but even if he were to cover a tune, he makes it his own.

  • @chrisshootsicd How do you spell ANAL? Let's see... c h r i s s h o o t s i c d. Dude, take a chill pill or a long hit off that pipe of yours, I was just paying homage to the big boy and just for the record, most great blues guitarists don't know squat about music theory. Are you still sorry now?...

  • @smokinbluzvalv which greats are you talking about? because any modern professional guitarist worth his salt knows quite a bit. are you talking of the great delta blues guys or guys like bb king that had no formal training? i'm pretty sure that by his age, bb has learned how music works.

  • Comment removed

  • @smokinbluzvalv Great blues has nothing to do with music theory, it comes from the heart. I personally prefer it that way~!

  • @rockinredneck57 Amen brother. I heard that!

  • @rockinredneck57 - THANK YOU. I've been playing for 25 years and I STILL don't know shit about music-theory. Doesn't matter much at this point though. I learn almost-everything by ear (although I'm currently-learning to play Zeppelin's "The Rain Song" in it's proper alternate-tuning - Needed a YouTube video so I could at least see what the guy's playing - Almost done with it). Anyway, we're talking about blues here. All you need to know is what key it's in. Everything else is dynamics and feel.

  • Holy SMOKES!!! Seriously folks this is the SHIT! Johnny pulls out all the stops and takes no prisoners, slays them all. What a blues technician.

  • you know you can play your ass off when Paul Reed Smith makes you a signature model!

  • What an amazing feel...

  • Sooooooooo coooool!!

  • If I lived in Texas I'd go to each of his concerts

  • Great heart and great blues musician !!!

  • the big man sure can play

  • Johnny is one of the true living Blues masters. Recognize.

  • Was there smoke coming off the fretboard on the intro ? Johnny can make it seem so damn easy ! Nice guy to talk 2 as well .

  • класс))), это моя самая любимая манера игры в стиле блюз!

  • i just discovered this guy a couple of minutes ago. and he's already one of my favourite guitarplayers. he can play everything! rock, blues, country, blugrass. and not only can play the different genres, he totally rock in every singel one of them. awsome! awsome!

  • 1:41-1:48 with that plane in the background goes together so well

  • Found this man by mistake and i'm glad i did great style sound and just overall feeling. I aspire to be able to play like him one day.

  • This guy is awesome as good as any of today's contemporary guitarists, Bonamassa to name but one, but it's thte breadth of styles he plays with consumate ease, style and feel!!!

  • I never cease to be amazed at his playing. Keep going Johnny you give me a level of excellence to aspire to!

  • you know why there are 0 dislikes? because this guy is kick ass

  • beautiful

  • hell yea, what an intro!!!!

  • no one has the power to dislike his shreding

  • Johnny can play anything period! He is one of my favorites! I never get tired of his playing, he can drive it hard or lay off and make it sing! Awesome!! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"

  • I've been playing guitar for 35 years. This may be the best, most soulful and hottest blues guitar playing i've ever heard! WOW

  • @1257trebor Without a doubt!

  • Johnny Hiland smokes on the guitar; I met him at the 2008 PRS Experience and he's also one hell of a nice guy.

  • I love this guy....he's so fucking brilliant to listen to. Definitely one of the greatest bluesman I have ever heard in my life so far.

  • tubbies got skill

  • man, Hendrix, SRV, JWinter, F Marino, Morse, and Shawn Lane in one dude!

  • not bad for a maine boy a wonder of wonders

  • Thanks for posting, WOW what a Talent!!!

  • i dont understand why johnny hiland's signature PRS is so much cheaper than others by at least $1,000. not that im saying $2,300 is cheap lol

  • fuuuuuck maaannn, thats so fucking awesome, awesome tone!!!!!

  • FABULOUS~~~~~

  • Blues Traveler front man John Popper!?

  • Very sweet.....Thanks for sharing..

    davido

  • If i could have anyones Chops it would probably be this mans!

  • AWESOME !!!

  • Amazing...nothing else...

  • I'm telling ya'll, Clapton can't touch this. Neither can Page, Beck, or a host of other "super guitarists".

This dude is in his own zip code playing a guitar.

  • @rockinredneck57 Don't compare, ain't no use.

He plays like he plays because he heard so many that came before him that inspired him to get where he's at. That's all.

He's certainly very good, no doubt.

  • @lamiamano He plays like he does due to many long hours of practice and practically sleeping with a guitar. He has natural ability too, but he had to work to refine it. He is s good as any player I've heard and better than 99% of them. How many others heard those who came before and were influenced by them? Every guitarist today was influenced by someone else. Don't forget his fingers aren't made long and slender like most "rock god" guitarists either. He has those big sausage fingers!

  • @rockinredneck57 yeah... id put joe bonamassa up against him anyday though

  • @jjhotmail I'd say Johnny can hang with any player you put him on stage with. He may or may not be better, but the other guy will know he's been up against a player when it's over. Johnny makes it look so effortless. He doesn't just play a one min solo behind a band, he's at it for 9 min at a time! That's a LOT of picking! Not many guitarists can play for that long non stop.

  • Big John is wicked though, ain't he?

  • guiterry,

we can use mine too and have a matching set of non used end tables.

    Big Ron

  • I just put my guitar down and I'm now thinking of using it as an end table!! Crazy, mad licks with some awesome tone, even with the wind interference.

  • fantastic fantastic fantastic! (next time gate that mic so you don't hear the wind) - did I mention FANTASTIC!

  • wow thats a fucking guitar solo!

  • lots of so called blues on youtube but very few have feeling. speed aint crap with out touch. this is a beautiful thing, felt every note!!!

  • fat bastard jajajja

  • What kind of guitar is that?

  • @Situious Paul Reed Smith.....Johnny Hiland Signature model

  • @Situious its an ELECTRIC guitar... man how good would he be...if he laid off the twinkies for a month..... you can hear the arlen roth influence coming through.... nice one...yeee haww

  • @Situious only the best for such a great player

  • I think he ate a blues baby.

  • That's one awesome blues guitar. I salute that dude. He's really got those blues chops down. And with lots of feeling and intense progression of the licks. Nice runs and fluid motions.

  • Amazing stuff. Keep coming back to this one. Love your style man.

  • que sobada la del man

  • BEAST loved every minute of it !!

  • wow...such a big talent... in a non euphemistic way :-)

  • One more thing, if I had to meet Papa Legba at the crossroads today, I would want Johnny with me! :)

  • sounds like johnny already been to the cross roads man

  • @lucasregan1986- He definitely has been, and Papa Legba found out for the first time what it was like to have a fire lit under HIS ass!

  • He is so goddamned frickin' FANTASTIC it should be illegal! I have been a Johnny fan for a while now, but every time I hear him play, it's new and refreshing, never the same old boring crap! He's playing here like SRV and the OLD ( Duane Allman ) Allman Bros. are sharing the stage! I think both SRV and Duane would have absoulutely flipped out over Johnny, it's about time he's given the credit that is his so richly due!

  • Hes amazing . Stop fighting over stupid shit. LOL.

  • hes not a shredder. Don't insult him. Hes got talent.

  • @greatarachnid

well, he idolizes shredders like steve vai. so i have a feeling it wouldnt be insulting

  • @greatarachnid why is being called a shredder an insult? Just because a guy can shred AND play with soul... is not a bad thing.

  • search "guitar shredder" on youtube. Compare. If he wanted to be that, he would be that.

  • @greatarachnid you see... some poeple put catagories on a "style". The FACT is... this guy can play fast which is also known as... SHREDDING. It's not a bad thing.... there are good shredders and bad ones just as there are good blues players and bad ones. Don't believe me? Get out of the house more...HAHA!

  • Reply to old man question : Age has little to do with this guy....... talent beyond his age seems to work better...enjoy his playing dude !!!!

  • yah he plays good

  • Damn that was good!

I say the shredding is very tasteful never excessive, superb player indeed.

  • wow, this old man is just great! one of shred master! anyone know how old is he?

  • Old? He might be 30....

  • 1:43-1:50 with the whammy bar is fucking awesome

  • Damn, I wish I could've watched Johnny but after Andy played I had to leave.

  • This is what you get when a kid lives, eats and breathes the guitar. Fantastic! Slow, fast or in between, Johnny rocks them all!

  • Amazing!!!!!!

  • This is the first time I have seen Johnny Hiland and I'm totally blown away. Fantastic light and shade. As I said to BIgDBlues who put me on to this video Johnny knows when to shed but most of all knows when not to.

    wow!!! fantastic

  • yes indeed he is fantastic,he put alot of time into his instrument, night and day,day and night, thanks for sharing bro, although i've seen this one before, its always a pleasure to watch over and over,i especially loved the slide playin'

  • Great playing. This guy is awesome!

  • wow .... 5/5 great texas blues man

  • Rockin!

  • Smokin !!!!!!
