I want a 500cc 2 stroke (slowed down a bit) street bike. Just imagine the look on anyone's face when you hit the power band, not to mention the awesome sound.
I have the '09 model and i live in south africa , this bike is street legeal here , Great bike from the best bike manufacturer around (aprillia fan) Love the bike and if you want one dont worry just buy it. (little pricey but money's worth)
@charliewormald It's a 2-stroke. US EPA doesn't allow anything on the street (legally) with a 2-stroke engine over 50cc's. This is why you still see 2-stroke scooters and mopeds. It has been this way in the US since, I think, the early 80's.
@EnargyMusic Well I researched it and got this from yahoo answers:
"Due to low demand, the distributors do not import them into the country. And since they do not import them, they have not been inspected and tested to make sure that they comply with US regulations, such as emissions. Without that certification, they can not be legally licensed for the street... and many highways have speed limits which would make it hazardous for smaller bikes."

I am American and I own one. No problemo. My state does not have emissions test, however one needs to buy the kit to make it street legal. Kit has new wiring harness, mirrors, lights, tailpiece, and license bracket. Since I work at an Aprilia dealership, it was not a big deal. I use it as a daily rider and commute motorcycle. But it is a lot of fun too. The bikes delivered to USA were set to full power with power valve opening at 9K. This bike is a hoot!!!
Do yourselves a favour and don't buy second hand, it's very risky. These bikes ask to be thrashed and if your not buying new, be prepared to do an engine rebuild. These bikes are great fun never the less.
@error262 They can be made street legal, but cannot be imported that way due to emissions. However, if the state you live in does not have emissions test for motorcycles, adding the street legal kit will get you on the highway in style.
People who say this bike is slow are simply flaunting their ignorance for those of us who know better. Two strokes can make considerably more power for their size. It's simple physics that a lower mass requires less energy to change directions/velocities. Obviously this bike won't win many (if any) races in a straight line, but tradeoff is a machine that simply cannot be beaten by large bikes in the twisties. In that aspect, the 125 actually is fast and the bigger bikes are in reality slow.

Most of the comments on here are from completely uninformed people...
The reason the RS125 is not STREET LEGAL in the USA (and Canada) is because they were shipped here as race bikes. This means they did not include things like turn signals, mirrors, kickstand, license plate bracket etc. These things are obviously required for road use. That is the ONLY reason you cant legally take it on the road in North America.
In Europe they sold the bike in either race OR street trim.
Americans are a buch of douchebags. They drive large and quick cars. But they are allowed to only drive 80 mph in one state. Your fucking country is enormous and you drive only 80? And they tell you this is because of safety? Jesus, cars are advanced nowdays why drive so slowly if you can go so much quicker. Why does an American buy a V8 if he can't drive it. Here in Holland which is much more dense we even have parts who do 80 mph. And in our neighbour country Germany it is not even limited.
we can all thank the eviromentalists for this big switch in america to four strokes, cant even buy a brand new bike nowadays that even has an ounce of the power the big bore two strokes used to have
I like it, too great. this is the dream of my 19 years. in Viet Nam, the price of this motorcycle is about 2500 usd, but I can not afford it .. I'll try to work hard. hopefully in 3 years I'll buy this motorcycle
I just love that it isn't banned in my cuntry! ... though i konda see (from a senceble point of view) why it should be banned, cuz mine consumes the same amount of fuel per kilometer as a new school bus.. that's ofcause because it isn't exacly standard! And alot of blue smoke.
About 11 kolometers per liter, or around 30 miles per gallon - however I believe that a standard does twice that.
@Xcelld That's bad man, I know most Americans are just as intelligent as most people in Australia, but fuck, Your government can be fucking stupid sometimes!
@Bence316 Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking. But then again, it's a racer. It may be only a 125, but it's meant for racing. A Ninja 250 is only $4,000. I'd say go with that. lol

@heartlesspinto 2 stroke engines releases much more CO2 than 4-stroke ones. And with all that global warming and green house effect every square inch of CO2 matters.
@MichelIchiy If that's what you think, i really hope you're living without electricity, transportation, eating nothing but food you find outside, etc. The computer you are on has a carbon footprint of its own.
@heartlesspinto I don't "think" that. That's real facts. I'm not saying its wrong, just that politicians thought would be better. 4-stroke engines have proven to have better performance of miles/gallon, and have lower CO2 emission than 2-stroke. What really stops you from making it street legal is the authorities and the Kyoto Protocol. I love this bike man, I wish I could buy one too. But imagine a country like China where there's a milions motocycles and if they all were 2-stroke.Just politics
@MichelIchiy I was replying to "every square inch of c02 matters." There are obvious advantages to having a 4 stroke motorcycle. Not every motorcycle would be a 2 stroke as the 4 stroke cannot be replaced. I don't see what's wrong with having a 2 stroke if i can have numerous other gas guzzling vehicles. This has nothing to do with my question. I've seen people with street legal 2 stroke dirt bikes. Just wondering if there is something specific to this bike that makes it impossible.
I can't get my head around this emissions thing, I mean, the entire transport sector (aviation included) accounts for less then 2% of total carbon emissions. what harm is this one bike really going to do?
what the hell you all keep complaining about. Bike is always a bike the only thing no matter whether is 2 stroke or 4 stroke. The art of riding a bike is individual talent and skills. Cmon guys we are bikers man. And its legal in asia. I have one myself.
@DKGate7Ultras WRONG, they more efficient as you get a power stroke every 360 degrees of the camshaft rather than every 720 degrees like in a 4-stroke, also 2-strokes usually puts out about 1.5 times the power of a 4-stroke with the same size engine. LOL
I want a 500cc 2 stroke (slowed down a bit) street bike. Just imagine the look on anyone's face when you hit the power band, not to mention the awesome sound.

So what stops me from making it street legal?
heartlesspinto 1 year ago
@heartlesspinto 2 stroke engines releases much more CO2 than 4-stroke ones. And with all that global warming and green house effect every square inch of CO2 matters.
MichelIchiy 1 year ago
@MichelIchiy If that's what you think, i really hope you're living without electricity, transportation, eating nothing but food you find outside, etc. The computer you are on has a carbon footprint of its own.
heartlesspinto 1 year ago
@heartlesspinto I don't "think" that. That's real facts. I'm not saying its wrong, just that politicians thought would be better. 4-stroke engines have proven to have better performance of miles/gallon, and have lower CO2 emission than 2-stroke. What really stops you from making it street legal is the authorities and the Kyoto Protocol. I love this bike man, I wish I could buy one too. But imagine a country like China where there's a milions motocycles and if they all were 2-stroke.Just politics
MichelIchiy 1 year ago
@MichelIchiy I was replying to "every square inch of c02 matters." There are obvious advantages to having a 4 stroke motorcycle. Not every motorcycle would be a 2 stroke as the 4 stroke cannot be replaced. I don't see what's wrong with having a 2 stroke if i can have numerous other gas guzzling vehicles. This has nothing to do with my question. I've seen people with street legal 2 stroke dirt bikes. Just wondering if there is something specific to this bike that makes it impossible.

Hell yeah!! 2 stroke power!! This bike and the Cagiva Mito rulez!!!

I can't get my head around this emissions thing, I mean, the entire transport sector (aviation included) accounts for less then 2% of total carbon emissions. what harm is this one bike really going to do?
kakamadTOMC 1 year ago
is this bike oil injected? or do you have to mix the gas and oil before hand?

what the hell you all keep complaining about. Bike is always a bike the only thing no matter whether is 2 stroke or 4 stroke. The art of riding a bike is individual talent and skills. Cmon guys we are bikers man. And its legal in asia. I have one myself.

fuck 2T engine. they are a complete failure
DKGate7Ultras 1 year ago
@DKGate7Ultras WRONG, they more efficient as you get a power stroke every 360 degrees of the camshaft rather than every 720 degrees like in a 4-stroke, also 2-strokes usually puts out about 1.5 times the power of a 4-stroke with the same size engine. LOL
lewisrclark28 1 year ago
the 125 is illegal, but people can drive cross country in a hummer. hmmm........

This is about the sexiest bike there is. There's something about a lil 280 pound, 17,000 rpm bike that really gets me.
