  • do u really need to stop the video ever 5 fucking seconds its only a 5 min long video

  • it sucks that you stop it for us.

  • Isn't "fatigued" the Hollywood way of saying "addicted to cocaine?" But no, it's Mercury. (joking, joking...sorta...)

  • It's now 2010!!!

We have an update for you...and it's going to blow you away. Click on our name and see what's happened since you posted this video on Jeremy Piven.

  • This is completely untrue that there is "no public health concern about Mercury in Japan." There's a lot of concern. See "The Cove." And we're probably all getting more than we should have in our own seafood as we continue to poison the oceans.

  • I am appalled at the comments on the video. From a child of a mercury poisoned mother (who got it from SILVER FILLINGS in her mouth but stopped eating all fish after she realized the problem), I truly believe in Mr. Piven. It doesn't affect everyone the same way, and my poor mom was subjected to levels of mercury nobody should deal with for most of her life, childhood through adulthood. She still gets ridiculed by mainstream doctors as a quack. Up yours til your caretaker gets sick with this

  • ABC news censors comments, so I'll say it here: Piven is full of it, and everyone in the New York theatre community knows it. He just wanted out of the show, and that's disgusting. He is not a theatre professional, and I have no repsect for him whatsoever.

  • HAHAHA I love this.

  • Blah, blah, blah, what a bunch of BS. I am sorry, this guy just comes across as a whiny weirdo. I usually eat fish EVERY DAY, I love it. The risks of elevated mercury from eating fish are hypothetical. The pros of fish, especially fatty fish with high omega 3, clearly outweigh the HYPOTHETICAL risks. Omega three is so good for the brain, joints, vasculature, heart and a lot of other stuff. Americans are now afraid to eat it because of the Vegan creeps. Too many Americans have become Sheeple.

  • The body does not easily absorb pure Mercury, You could swallow a small amount of pure Mercury, and it would pass straight through your system.

  • Doctors are experts but not omniscient in matters of science and the individual body and its reactions to food, drugs or the environment.

If he's lying he probably didn't think it would get much reaction. If he's not lying he probably didn't think it would get much reaction

Either way who really gives a fuck?.

  • Look up Jane Hightower's studies on mercury in high-end fish consumers.

  • And we're supposed to trust NFI? Get real.

  • This guy eats at the Nobu in Malibu like it's the kitchen in his house... of the four times I've been in my life I've seen him three times, and the two times my friends went without me, they saw him both times, so it makes perfect sense that he would get sick this way and I hope he gets better, if he's not already.

  • You people need turn your "lie-detecting intuition" away from Broadway and television stars and onto the people who actually need to be kept in check.

    Like Obama.

  • i saw the show a week before he left. At the stage door, Piven was an asshole.

  • scratching my ass

  • do you sniff afterwards...?

  • And I bet you're Jesus Christ every day, 24 hours a day and have never said a mean thing in your life you cheap, ecdysiast who induces laughter because of your idiocy.

  • jesus people. if he wanted to lie, don't you think he would pick a more common sickness instead of MERCURY poisoning!

  • ^This is probably the smartest comment out of all of them. Surely he would have bowed out properly had he really just been sick of the show, which I'm thinking he wasn't.

Also, as far as I understand he had a few other health problems? Perhaps coupled together, this caused him more sickness than what would normally be seen.

Either way, it doesn't matter if he's lying or not; he's a great actor and that's what counts. I don't watch him for his private life, but for his skills as an actor.

  • this guy is the man ill follow him to my death

  • how is it anybody's business if he even does go ut and parties. Is Diane Sawyer is the motherfucking hollywood mommy in this bitch?

  • its sad when a 44 yr old is accused of partying too much

  • In response to your annotation at 1:05, Japan is a small country that is completely surrounded by water. The fish in Japan is a lot fresher than the stuff in the US which needs to be transported inland. I\most of the time, you don't even know how fresh your meal is.

  • Diane Sawyer is such a phony, condescending bitch. I can't stand her tone.

  • FYI.....

When I was pregnant with my youngest I ate swordfish chunks every weekday for lunch. I nor my child never had any elevated mercury levels. I was raised on Tuna salad sandwiches .... I think all the studies are full of c r a p.

Mr Piven has stopped eating seafood, well I have stopped watching anything else that has Mr Piven in it.

  • K well you're a joke, and that is good for you. Maybe your bodywas used to it or it was clean swordfish, however I think he wasnt saying all fish is bad probably more along the lines of lets make sure all the guidelines are in check with fish.

Diane sawyer was being a total idiot and condescending, but hey, I'm sure the hardworking 40+ actor doesn't need you to watch his stuff, because he'll let people who enjoy his performances watch it, not ppl who judge him on his claim to fish poisoning

  • and yeahhh jeremy is right...fish in japan is natural grown...where in america is just artificiali u can get a lot more than food pois from artificial growth

  • the poison story is very true u can get it ...even wors is the iodine poison frm shrimp...so eat iot up bouulers and go have a nice flush at the ER

  • He is an actor................

  • yeah i love how you losers are trying to attack jeremy piven. as if there's not a billion news reports about this exact thing...showing us the facts. i think i speak for everyone when i say i don't care if fish is cancerous i will NEVER stop eating fresh raw fish. lol

  • he just do what the doctor told him to do!! take that bitch!

  • Everyone's body is different. A small amount of mercury could effect one person, but not another. So let's stop blaming dear Jeremy, and let's face it, David Mamet is a "difficult" man.

  • Eek. I never thought my muse would turn out to be Jeremy Piven! Oi vay.

  • Let's start a Jeremy Piven fan club on this site. I have a feeling Jeremy would be happy about it, because you guys are interesting (a rarity on youtube). I don't know Jeremy (and I'm not sure I want to) but I admire his very American assertiveness in the face of what some are calling a "fish

story." (Or, if you will, fishy story.) Well, sayonara - I'm off to an offishal event where, I understand, they will be serving "fishysoize." Yum. Mercury, be darned.

  • No problem with mercury poisoning in japan, are you kidding? They were poisoned horribly during the 60s. I am going through the same things from my amalgam (mercury) fillings. All you knobs who have not been exposed or reacted to the mercury in your bodies this way are just ignorant.

  • Comment removed

  • come on folks seriously you need to stop bad-mouthing this great actor. as he said hes not a doctor, hes just going on what hes been told. i cant believe that you would sink to the level of a wannabe tmz reporter. its sad to see...

  • one more thing. Diane Sawyer is so hot

  • I perform in nightclubs and have toured with a musical group. Having said that. I fucking hate artists. How do we think we are smarter than even scientists. Self absorbed freaks... all of us

  • He chews on thermometers when hes nervous bout being in an extremely awkward and gay broadway show

  • Bullshit. Bullshit. Bullshit.

How is it Jeremy Piven is the first person in modern history to have this reaction to over consumption of Sushi?

  • VioletClub He's not . Why do you think pregnant women are not supposed to eat fish, because of autism spectrum disorders from mercury.

  • "VioletClub He's not . Why do you think pregnant women are not supposed to eat fish, because of autism spectrum disorders from mercury."

I'm well aware of all that, however, how is it possible Jeremy Piven is the first known person to have actually FELT symptoms of mercury toxicity from eating fish? Are we really supposed to believe he ate more fish per day than ANYONE else in recent history? What about people who eat nothing but fish for their entire lives?

    His story is bogus.

  • VioletClub What is the proof to refute his own doctor? Apparently he does indeed eat more raw tuna than the average American. Why would mercury not effect people after they are born? Did you know there is evidence relating Alzheimer's to mercury dental amalgams? And other studies relate aluminum in deodorants to breast cancer?

  • VioletClub The following video explains very well the widespread autism and Alzheimer's that is happening in our industrial society :

    /watch?v=213sfHfQCuI

  • VioletClub And do you really trust US govt agencies as your only source of reference? The FDA, EPA, and CDC are bought by corporate America.

  • VioletClub Here is an amazing research video from Canada , at the University of Calgary, entitled " How Mercury Causes Neurodegeneration (Brain Damage)"

    /watch?v=VImCpWzXJ_w

  • aspieresearchmom, I know ALL about mercury. I had 10 perfectly good amalgam dental fillings removed about 3 years ago.

And, I never cited ANY agencies of any kind in my comments.

As for Piven's doctor, I know people who have their doctors provide fake diagnosis all the time.

I'm not saying it's not possible, I just have some major doubts.

  • VioletClub I understand doubts, but prefer proof to the contrary. Sorry, I have been through my own ignorance about mercury for so long, I am amazed now how many studies and researchers are on the internet that show that mercury is a very dangerous neurotoxin, even at low levels as in dental amalgams (that is not even ingested). In other words, there is no such thing as a "safe" level of mercury. I feel that he is not being believed simply because of what he does for a living.

  • " In other words, there is no such thing as a "safe" level of mercury."

Of course, that's true but we're ALL being poisoned and our health is weighed against the well being of our corporate overlords. When we're falling over dead, only then will something be done about it.

"I feel that he is not being believed simply because of what he does for a living."

When I watch him speak in this clip, I have an overwhelming sensation that he's lying.

  • VioletClub "When we're falling over dead, only then will something be done about it."

True, which is why only actors get noticed before that happens, not "we" peons. AIDS got better publicity after Rock Hudson keeled over.

  • VioletClub "When I watch him speak in this clip I have an overwhelming sensation that he's lying" Lol, he may be guilty of bad acting , but it is his peers that have forced him to speak defensively. I imagine "show business" thing must be cut-throat . But wouldn't it be his doctor that is lying if this is not true? There must be record of his tests & being in hospital for 3 days somewhere. Of course that's covered by fed privacy act (HIPPA) so we'll never really know the truth :(

  • yeah, that's the thing. it looks unnatural and forced by this interview has probably been shoved down his throat by his p.r person. as if he wants to go on national television defending an illness he caught naturally.

    poor guy

  • Haha... busted. Sounds like someone is on the Peta payroll.

He wants everyone to believe him but "I'm not a doctor" "Take what I say with a grain of salt" Grow a pair.

  • Who da hell edit this video? Aquaman?

Ok dude, fish is great! All right?

And by the way, Piven is incredible. Much better than fish.

And try to make this polemical? Oh, how strange to feel bad after fish, since the oceans today are so freaking CLEAN

  • Why are you all so bothered about what he is saying? He has no reason to leave a Mamet play and if he was ill he was ill

  • Do you guys realize how blatantly obvious it is that you're pushing an agenda here?

  • No Japanese public concern?!

What is NFI referring to? Government official response protecting the Japanese Fishing Industry?

In the 1960's, 111 people in Minimata, Japan DIED or became severely ill from daily eating mercury-contaminated fish over an extended period. Later, 120 people were found mercury-poisoned in Nigata, Japan. Wouldn't this make anyone in Japan concerned?

I'm sure educated Japanese are concerned, as are educated Americans. Many more need to be educated.

  • Everyone knows broadway is sinking, piven had to do what he had to do. nuff said.

  • yeah, now that shows are in danger of closing, let's have actors disregard work ethic.

  • Excellent response!

  • Yes, you are correct, there is a safeguard for Mercury, as you so claim. But the real question is, why does there need to be? Why are their any warnings against the consumption of fish if its so safe as you so claim?

  • Why don't talk about your support of farmed fishing and the subsequent dyeing of salmon, for example?

You're the same people who advocate the use of a color fan to help determine what color is most natural, and then dye their fish accordingly? So much for looking out for the health and safety of consumers.

  • The issue is, whom do you trust MORE, an organization with a vested interest in keeping the wheels of disinformation spinning so that consumers will continue to buy their fish? Or the TENS of THOUSANDS of medical professional and/or organization who main interest is in keep people safe and/or healthy?

  • Dude thinks he's Vinnie Chase and gets called out for his BS.
