Ya know. Every body says the 6.0s are junk. The motor them selves are reliable. Its all the emissions crap they put on them to " have a smaller carbon foot print" that makes them unreliable. If the 6.0's would have been introduced without emissions no body would have a problem with them. Sure they are a pain to work on but if you put a bit of money into them and fix the weak links they will run for a long time. Buy the way. Nice truck if i were to buy a 6.0 that is exsactaly what i would wan
my brother has a 05 f250 powerstroke with the 6spd. we love it. cause it helps alot when pulling the flatbed with the 5300 john deere tractor or just about anything. plus we get about 25mpg when loaded on highway its all stock too.
@davenportmt if you're going to sit here and tell me what the on board computer says im not going to waste my time, those things are BS. hand calculated they are no where close to that, maybe 21-22.
The 6spd manual is horrible behind the 6.0 I had one got rid of it bought a 6.0 with the torqshift much better. The 6spd was okay when you were rolling but to get rolling was a struggle on hills with a load.
@Graveltrucking Maybe it needed a better driver. If you 6.0 was struggling, its probably low on power. The gear ratio of the transmission is low, so it'll move just not as fast as a auto. Just put the pedal down, then she'll move!
@MrTurboAaron The truck I had was a 03 F-450 2wd the truck weighed 9800 pounds empty it also had 4:30 ratio. I got myself into trouble a few times with 6000 pounds on the deck and the truck litterally powered out. My current 06 F-450 has 4:88 and automatic weighs the same empty. Had close to 12,000 pounds on the deck no problems with powering out. I like the 6.0 engine never had any problems with either truck had 7.3s in the past.
@Graveltrucking Hey GT, from what I hear the 6.0L isn't a very well put together motor. For one, not enough head bolts. I have a friend that's jerking the 6.0L out and putting 92/93 to 97/98 5.9L Cummins in the Fords.
This video looks like it's up at Coos Bay, Oregon. I don't like taking my diesel out there, too heavy in the front.
I got to laughing at Mr Aaron's comment to you. I guess he's never seen how you Canadians drive, eh?(;>)!
@rockinpiano1 The 6.0s are okay put head studs and eliminate the emissions and the engine is good. I haven't had any problems with mine, I wouldn't trade my 6.0 for anything would like to try the new 6.7 Ford but I can't afford one of those.
Cummins conversions are expensive especially in Canada it is cheaper to head stud the 6.0 and remove the emissions. With the price of diesel it might be cheaper to ride a bicycle LOL.
alright, im about to legit buy a diesel. i like the ford 6.0s because of the price, but i dont have a problem owning any other truck because from other forums and info the chevys and dodges arent bad trucks. can anyone give me some guidance on the 6.0s what to look for if i buy one? what i can do to prevent the many problems people claim to have with these trucks? i noticed you said you had arp head studs and a egr delete. if i do this on a used truck with 100 to 150k miles on it what sould i ex
@davenportmt Get Maintenance history on the truck. Fan clutch sometimes get cracks on them. New oil cooler or aftermarket cooler. "Some" HPOP go bad.. Fuel pump went bad on mine, because dirt & crap clogged the fuel filter. (Clean fuel tank) Look for obvious things under the hood like (coolant stains or splash/overflow marks & oil leaks), those are signs of the previous driver overheated or got hot. Try to get it fixed by a "Powerstroke specialist."
@MrTurboAaron thanks man. if i found one that i knew that it hasnt been used to haul trailers or there was no obvious sighs of abuse or neglect with 100k or so and it was a local truck, doo you think i can do a egr delete and be safe from having to replace the head studs?
@davenportmt low price because they are SHIT! have spending atleast 4k to make it a half way reliable engine. the 6.0 is shit even after studs, egr delete, oil cooler fix. haha have fun with the "low price" poor guy.
@CATZR600BRAAAAAP ive herd alot of people have goodluck with them after they stud them and atleast an egr delete, plus the ford has a better look than any dodge out there and way better upholstered interiors than the dodge does. thats why i want a ford.
@davenportmt "hear" all you want, we have a fleet of 5 6.0's and they all have under 60k on them, all have been junk, 2 new turbos, 20 new injectors 5 egr deletes 5 sets of head gaskets and studs... never a mile over an oil change and always warmed up... (you have to or the injectors wont fire) but thats fine if you're worried about upholstry maybe you should look BMW or something, not a truck thats made to tow and work. thats why i chose cummins.
@CATZR600BRAAAAAP i have an 04 6.0 with 88k on it. still same turbo and injectors. mines just got egr delete and 4" straight pipe. not one single problem with it the whole time ive had it. these turbos on these truck wouldnt junk up so much but so many people drive these things like grandmas. 6.0 is a picky truck to maintain. its not cheap either. but i have never experienced any of those problems with mine. and i got this truck right after i got rid of the 97 12 valve i had.
@CATZR600BRAAAAAP one of those people that can only afford a dodge because its resale value is horseshit. some people like having a nice truck, not just a good engine.
@Seetherwind LMAO Cummins trucks hold their value more then any other brand. shit any Cummins with 200+k on it is worth the a broke dick 6 litre. FACT.
@Seetherwind HAHAAH behind the times, your right an EFI Live tuned 06 Common Rail is behind the times. 2 less clyinders and still making more power. Behind the times? everybody and their brother runs a 12v or P-Pumped 24v at hooks and they run the show, 4 cummins trucks to 1 dmax out there.
ANY TRUE diesel guy knows the 12v is the king, reliable as hell, and can make huge power numbers.
I like dmax trucks and have a lot of respect for them, but were far from behind the times.
@CATZR600BRAAAAAP It's amusing that you are not only arguing the wrong point but failed to read my last post. I said resale value is the only reason why someone buys a dodge over a chevy, the dodge itself is cheaper. I never said the cummins engine didn't make huge power, I am saying the dodge truck is a piece of fucking garbage. trash, no good. As for power, yeah you are probably right on 4 cummins to 1 duramax, as you can build a cummins far cheaper than you can a duramax.
@Seetherwind it's sad when you go to buy a dodge, you have to look in the 6 speed only section as their auto trannies are so notorious for being garbage. and the trucks themself, suck, flat out. Live axle and the inline 6 motor is the only thing i would even think about putting in my chevy. if the chevy HD trucks came factory with those 2 things, I would guarantee Ford and Dodge would not sell trucks anymore
@Seetherwind No one with a cummins says they're a dodge guy, we know they're shit! haha I'll admit it. the body will fall off way before the motor quits.
@davenportmt I think Diesel engines are amazing in general, I love the Cummins 6bt but when it comes to Powerstroke I am big into the 6.0's, especially the 03-04 ones. The 7.3L is a very simple but reliable engine, ive seen his vids and they were very informative to me back when I didnt know much about Powerstrokes.
yea i love the cab off idea to work on anything keeps us ford dealer ship techs busy and mine was no road queen i got a short clip of it its dinged and used
@stihlms on some year models you do. im not talkin much but like a few inches. i deal with a bunch every day. i work part time with my dad for the state in the shop. they have like 10 6.0s and every one has had a turbo replaced at least once. cab style depends on if you have to lift it too. i usually unbolt the cab bolts and all hard lines or cables and what not and lift it with a 2 post lift. all the trucks we have are either extended cab or crew cab.
@MrTurboAaron oh ok. i just know of alot that do give trouble and i know of alot that dont. its hit and miss. the new 6.7 seems to be doing good. i talked with a ford rep and he said that none have been reported with problems in my area but at the same time a wrecker pulled in with a ranger on the back lol.
@MrTurboAaron have you had any issues out of your 6.0? i know of ALOT of them that contstantly have turbos failing and injectors going out. also im not callin it junk or anything but the turbos are extremely hard to change. i usually have to lift the cab up to change em. it sucks.
@69dodgechargerrt1 Only the fuel pump went bad, because I didn't change the fuel filter. The pump had dirt & a leaf in it which caused a misfire & no power because of the low fuel pressure. At the same time the truck was in the shop, it was a good idea to install ARP headstuds, new headgasket, new oil cooler, delete EGR, & radiator fan clutch pulley...plus the SCT Tuner. So, after all that 0-issues!! 134k+ miles & counting! The turbo can be remove from the top-more difficult.
@69dodgechargerrt1 Everything else is original from factory: clutch, turbo, injectors, valvetrain.. Just to show you its strong, on performance mode its holding 30psi from factory turbo. We took it mudding 2-weeks ago & got stuck..we gave it hell, hitting/bouncing off the rev-limiter 5k-6k rpm..& drove it back home fine!
Nice truck.
