You need a serial port cable, some of the newer computer do not include a serial port anymore, there are USB based programmers too. I used PGM-00008 from sparkfun dot com, but there are other programmers on that website.
so basically what yor saying is: i have a blank PIC12F683 chip and i can plu it into a cable (whats the name of the cable and where can i get it) and plug it in and then load my own .hex and then it will be programmed?
Use winpic800 to read / write these chips, do a hardware test and it will say something like hardware ok. Next click chip test and if your programmer is working it will tell you the type of chip plugged into the socket on the programmer. If it doesent detect the chip plugged into the socket on the programmer then your programmer if FAIL. Even with a programmer that's not working it will say that it has read your chip when it hasnt.
my programer does not work when i test the hardware it just says hardware is not responding and i know it works because i tried to copy the code off a chip i bought off ebay and it read it fine but when i try to write it just rights the whole hex code as 0000 0000 0000 0000 ....etc.
Hmm. Check your programming voltage, maybe? ~MCLR/Vpp should be tied high with at least a 1k resistor. If tied directly to Vcc, it can't be pulled high enough to do a high-voltage programming cycle. Could be something else, but if it reads OK but won't write, it sounds like a Vpp issue. Also, try another 12F683 (they're cheap enough).
Hey, I used winpic from the DL4YHF site, I was trying to put the URL but you tube won't let me, but do a search for winpic, it lets you use the JDM programmers.
For rapid fire yes, I made a port of the rapid fire code to Mikro C, it is on the webpage, once you dowload the zip, double click on the .ppc file and on the left select your pic, and compile then program the hex to the pic
you were recently talking to my friend about programming the pic and he still hasnt got that to work just to let you know. but i am going to wire it to the controler and on the X and Y buttons which tracer do you wire it to the right or left.

Oh by the way I would say that out of 1000 12f683 chips you might get 1 that doesent work so it's most likely user error if you fail.

Well you tube doesnt let you write url's for some reason so put a period between this and then add net at the end, after that go to the projects page

No, there is a white drawing on the PCB (silk screen) that tells you where to put the pic

What program did you use to dump the hex-file into the dump. I see that it isn't 'icprog'. Cann you tell me what it is and where i can find it.
