  • eh eh eh eh eh eh spit it out eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh eh

  • Great vid as always! I'm trying to decide between the sharpmaker n the edge pro. Also what's the knife across from the lion steel? Looks like frame lock with hinderer stabilizer and composite blade...

  • @Hopefaithguns Thanks! I've heard that the Edge Pro is a better sharpener. The Sharpmaker is an entry level tool. The knife across from the Lion Steel is the Kershaw Volt.

  • Love the Sharpmaker. Researching knife sharpeners a few months ago is how i discovered Spyderco. Then once i saw the knives that they produce .... Well i guess i got hooked. Now im into the knife collecting hobby. All thanks to the Sharpmaker.

  • @antlese They are great knives aren't they :) I started out with SOG and CRKT and then branched out to Spydercos. The Sharpmaker is a really nice sharpener with practically no fuss.

  • by running the blade off the stone you are creating a blunt edge

  • @cameronjake20 I was just following the instructional vid that came with it. I guess I'm doing it wrong then.

  • Man DC you truly have the most extensive knife collection I have ever seen, you pretty much hit the nail on the head with all your reviews, and information on these high end (some low end ) blades.........Thank you.. BTW can you do a vid on sharpening a Sebenza on a sharpmaker?

  • @chavezchavez556 Why thank you:) I appreciate your kind words! My reviews are mainly based on just the facts, I try not to supplement too much of my own opinions. Sure, I have a few vids that I'm working in for the next few days. I'll see about getting one up of the Seb. Thanks for watching!

  • Thats really nice!

  • @BeanDip0913 Thanks!

  • great vid.. i used my saftey rods for knife pins..lol

  • @CobblersThumb Thank you:) That's a creative way of using the rods! Thanks for watching!

  • Such a conquering feeling when you get a dull blade sharp again. Nice demo vid!

  • @Lucentdawn Thanks! Yeah it's a cool feeling to get dull blades back to sharpness:) Thanks for watching!

  • I was talked into buying one when I bought my Endura. Couldn't be happier. If anybody's interested it comes with a DVD and instruction book that shows how to sharpen other implements besides knives, such as peelers, fish hooks, scissors, fingernail clippers, and tools. It only took one "spyder bite" for me to realize the importance of the safety rods. Man my knife got sharp. Never even felt it.

  • @thenrylee And the cool part is that Sal is the one demonstrating the Sharpmaker on video:) I'm glad you use the safety rods, it's really easy to be too vigorous and slip off and cut your hand! Thanks for watching!

  • i use the safety rods too. why not right? ive only used mine 3 or 4 times. im still working on a knife with a damaged edge that was completly dull or damaged. have to remake it totally. its so easy to use when you just resharpen a regular edge. from factory sharp to factory sharp again. its so easy. i even sharpened my chisel edge byrd knife. the instruction manual is so detailed. shows how to sharpen anything. anything in no time. i cant recommend it enough. ive never been able to sharpen.

  • @PavlovSandor Well if you have a completely dull edge it will take some time to bring it back to life. Also it depends on what type of steel as well. But yes it's a great sharpening system for those who want great results in a matter of minutes:) Thanks for watching!

  • BIG thanks for that video! I tried free hand sharpening on stones and failed hard, and my Lansky set is a hastle to set up. I think I'll get me that sharpmaker, it's expensive over here though, like 2x the price.

  • @Schmidt54 You're very welcome! Ouch this thing is double the price? Well it may be worth it because it's pretty efficient in sharpening almost anything that has a blade on it. Thanks for watching!

  • @darkchild57 hey man, if you say it's worth it, I'll get one. :-)

  • Very nice instructional vid, man. Well done. That's pretty much what I do with my Crock Sticks - they just take a lot longer. :)

I'll have to pick up a Sharpmaker some day.

  • @TheLateBoyScout Thank you sir! The sharpmaker is really easy to use:) Thanks for watching man!

  • Great demo, i'm planning on getting the sharpmaker sometime soon

  • @TheLazySpoiledKitty Cool man! You won't be disappointed!

  • @TheLazySpoiledKitty its so easy i can do it.. get one asap.

  • @PavlovSandor Good to know!! :D. I might order one soon :)

  • I saw that sharpener at the last gun show, and I wondering what it was all about. Thanks for posting this vid!

  • @thebudgetarmory1 Thanks for watching man! I'm glad I could help:) Take care!

  • I use a Laansky, 20 degree angle combined 40 degree, then I put a 15 degree combined 30 degree micro bevel, then I take it to my arm and it must shave my hairs off very easily, then I give it the thumbs up quality control sharp test pass.

  • @merthyrmafia Damn dude! You are hardcore into your sharpening!

  • I realy want one of those, but they are over $160 here dwn under (about $150 US) trying to find some where that will ship o/s at a decent price grr, thanks for the demo DC keep up the great work, best wishes to u and urs, take care.

  • @TheDishD Thanks for watching man! That sucks that it's so expensive! Geez, I paid 45USD plus shipping. Have you tried knifeworks? They ship o/s, I'm not sure what the prices are. Thanks for watching! Take care!

  • LOL if we didnt know you better I'd think you are actually that fast at sharpening and freek out XD That and the strange language we heard while you were speed sharpening would be enough to call in an encounter of the fourth kind :P

Anyways thanx for the vid bro!

  • @recon1s14 Lol, yeah I didn't want to bore everyone by playing the vid at normal speed while silently sharpening. Everyone gets the idea:) Thanks for watching man!

  • @darkchild57 XD well it was fun :P

  • Cool deal bro! I use a Lansky Turnbox with those ceramic rods, so far it put a razor sharp edge on my Native with absolutely no problem :D

  • @recon1s14 Thats awesome man! I've always had trouble putting any kind of edges on my knives using whetstones but with the sharpmaker it's real easy. I'm using this from now one lol! Thanks for watching!

  • @darkchild57 LOL bad side effect: Ive ran out of hair on my arm XD

Of course! I enjoyed the vid bro!

  • Thank you for this vid. I have been wanting to pick up a sharpmaker for a while now, glad I know how to use it before I even get it.

  • @xiuxiu1313 comes with the single greatest instructional dvd ever!

    sal glesser is great

  • @xiuxiu1313 You're very welcome sir! I'm glad I could help! I would definitely recommend this item!

  • Thought I would never see the day!! Try pulling straight back toward you as you go straight down on the rods. Works well with the medium rods. I highly recommend the diamond rods as well. Nice job!

  • @EnduringEagle Lol! yeah I know, I know, I'm late in the game! I'm looking into the other rods for the sharpmaker now. For the most part I don't use my knives enough to need a sharpening but it does occasionally happen so this was a nice purchase. Thanks for the tip man!

  • do you ever use a leather strop on your knifes?

  • @TheSerb111 Not yet but I was thinking of starting. Many people have suggested it to me:)

  • Nice ESEE 5... Aren't they great!

  • @myesque Thanks! I love it, but I don't get enough use out of it though, lol! I'll need to fix that!

  • The Sharpmaker is the best sharpening tool for beginners. It immediately rewards you with the feeling of success.

  • @stschmalhaus I suck at sharpening freehand. I've been using a whetstone for a long while now, my dad was a lot better at it. I like the sharpmaker because it's simple and very easy to get a nice sharp edge on knives:) Thanks fro watching!

  • The spyderco sharpmaker is a great sharpening system. Nowadays tough I don't use the device. I just freehand with a rod in my hand if I want to touch up.

  • @victorinoxfan I'm the opposite, I've been freehanding for years and I'm tired of my unsteady hands ruining the edge lol! I want to be able to sharpen my knives on the first try:) I was going to get an angle guide for use with my whetstones but I decided on the sharpmaker instead.

  • @darkchild57

Have you ever looked at systems like the edge pro or wicket edge?

  • @victorinoxfan Not yet, but I may look into those other systems later on when I get more comfortable with sharpening:) Thanks man!

  • Nice demo ...just ordered one from poorfish...thanks

  • @TactiCali Thank you! I'm glad you're getting one! These are very nice sharpeners for the price:)

  • -cont3- and stone blocks are usually more uniform right? so perhaps it will show less scratches on your edge/blade. I would do it if I was any good with it lol. Also a strop to help it get shinier :p And you already know scotch bright + comet on the ceramics work magic. But don't on the diamond when you get it. use a damp cloth, because if you wash it, the steel will rust [it rusted on mine, even though I let it dry]

  • --cont - I think I heard somewhere they were not like molded/heat treated or whatever, like the two fine ceramics. Its more like the material is plastered onto the rods, so the more you use it, it will wear down those particles, and you could even see the steel behind it later. [I believe the whites are ALL that material which is why they say it will really last forever-ish] So if your good at regular whetstones, I'd say get real coarse grit in that form so you can use the sup.coarse/med less

  • Who would of thought that you would be the one late to the game. lol, time to get a pair of UF at the least, you could always use wet sandpaper/ a benchstone for the super coarse, because you can really mess up your rods. And the diamond particles do end up scratching the blade a bit, at first it felt like sand, now it feels like ground up sand, so I am not sure how much I broke it down. But as you know, the diamonds especially, and the mediums WILL need replacement in the long run --cont

  • @jeffjuice3886 Damn dude you always write novels on my vids lol! So far the coarse and fine rods are doing well. I may pick up some UF's later. Whetstones require precision hands, something I lack. But I would probably get a blade guide that would help me hold it at a certain angle. I haven't tried stropping yet but I probably could, I have a bunch of leather I could use in a pinch. I don't have any polishing compound though.

  • I think im sending you my Knives to sharpen! lol.. JK, i really need to get one of these haha.. just haven't. Thanks for the video..

  • @markstevenbuisness Lol, you can if you want:) But I think this sharpener is perfect for anyone looking to get great results on their first tries! You're welcome and thanks for watching man!

  • Gonna pick one of these up.

  • @TheStig000 I would highly recommend it! It makes sharpening so much more easier than just freehanding on stones.

  • Nevermind, should have finished the video

  • What is the framelock between the ZT 551 and the BM Rift?

  • @socomelite1 The other knife is not a Rift but a BM Gaucho:)

  • @socomelite1 That's a Spyderco Chokwe.

  • I too recently got one of these and I'm liking it.

  • @TheTactical6string Me too:) I got this last week and I've gone crazy sharpening every dull knife in the house lol!

  • I just got one last week, it puts a factory edge on my knives, i love it

  • @BladesnGear Thanks for watching! I'm really diggin this Sharpmaker myself. I use to mess up the edges on most of my knives because I wasn't consistent enough on the angle. This really makes it easy to sharpen blades!

  • Spyderco's ceramic stones are excellent aren't they. They do an upgrade set of ultra fine rods now and a set of diamond rods as well for the Sharpmaker.

  • @johnwoodz1220 I'm definitely impressed with the ease and efficiency of the sharpmaker! I'm thinking of getting some of the upgrade sets as well. I have some zdp189 blades that may need some of the harder stuff to sharpen. Thanks for watching!

  • The Sharpmaker is on my list!! Great Vid my Friend!!

  • @MadBadVoodo Thanks! I can't believe it's taken me this long to get one myself. I highly recommend this! Thanks for watching!

  • I found this vid very helpful and informative, thanks for sharing. Take Care :-))

  • @SurviveN2 Thank you:) I appreciate the kind words! All the best man!

  • That was more that 20 swipes! LOL I love my sharpmaker too!

  • @elongatuspiranha Ok, so I can't count lol! It was roughly 20 swipes! Thanks for watching, I can't believe it's taken me this long to get a sharpmaker:) The whetstones are great but it takes too much concentration on my part to get the angle right.

  • thank 4 the demo

  • @unclecow You're welcome! Thanks for watching!

  • I've had a sharpmaker for years and love it. I recently started getting DMT stones and I am trying free hand, I love it to. Thanks for sharing.

  • @lokiodin I'm really diggin this sharpmaker. I was the reverse of you, I started out with freehanding and I'm not really that great at it, takes a lot of patience and skill to not mess up the edge, especially in my case. I do like to use the large blocks for larger blades though, this sharpmaker is going to be for my folding knives specifically. Thanks for watching!
