  • the mountainbike lady is pretty unspectactular compared the two other guys if you ask me...

  • Nothing beats 35mm film?

Ask Kodak, they know the answer for sure.

  • Great Video

  • I bet this was all done with a crappy 18-200mm DX lens. jk

  • @antean i'm pretty sure they used a conversion stock so they could use canon glass. :D

  • greatly done

  • I want to buy the first song "Smolder" by Count de Money but i can't find it anywhere. Can somebody help me?

  • The one thing it can't do is take pictures.

  • holy shit, why need expensive cinematography cameras, use this, cheaper and better

  • @billyboy8888 i wouldnt say better but its a hell of a lot cheaper and it would be worth it!

I LOVE the video capability of this dslr

  • @PatrickSean91 LOL, i meant for shooting real movies. Those cinematography cameras are in 5-6 digits in terms of prices, a 6-7 grand D4 is a bargain.

  • @billyboy8888 because nothing beats 35mm film

  • @davidajgp there's a physical limit how clear the 35mm film can get, but the semiconductor industry is advancing quickly, sooner or later it will surpass the films

  • awesome :X

  • 19 people using Canon!

  • D4 really???

  • These high End SLRs make Platforms such as Youtube much better in Quality

  • I Love D4

  • 4:02 to show off

  • Ethernet uncompressed output ? you mean HDMI right ?

  • AWESOME !!!

  • pretty sure that wasnt done on the D4 as it cant do slow motion, only 30p which is super lame

  • @white8ass8kika It's frame interpolation via motion estimation. Check out Twixtor. It uses mathematics to build fake frames to go in between the real ones for slow motion. *sometimes* it works.

  • @AffinityPhoto I use twixtor, my camera does 1080 60p. Twixtor doesnt work well with 30p. Trust me. They must have done something else. Maybe upscale 720 60p?

  • @white8ass8kika It's all how you shoot it. Notice in the waterfall that the photographer tracked the kayak pretty closely. The frame to frame position change is minimized. Could be 720 upscaled, but that's 1000fps so 24/25/30/60 whatever. The shutter speed was probably 1/1000.

  • @AffinityPhoto That said, I've been fuming a little because they are holding back a 60p mode for 1080. It would be one thing if they were the leaders in video, but your Sony (?) and Canon are pretty far ahead and a 1080p60 would have been a noteworthy addition to Nikon's cameras. Ethernet uncompressed output is cool, but not really useful for most.

  • @AffinityPhoto what? you obviously don't know much about the software but basically if there is a jump between each frame then you get ghosting, in complicated scenes you also get warping. At 30p the subject has to be moving pretty slowly for you to get a smooth video, i dont know if a kayak is slow enough, probably is as its not a very fast sport at all. any racket sport is too fast for 60p, i know that much

  • @white8ass8kika So, you figure it out yet? It was 720/60 twixtored. Probably would have worked OK with 30p. FYI, I've written optical flow vector motion estimation software before for robotics. I kinda know what I'm talking about.

  • @white8ass8kika Actually the camera can do 60fps at 720p and Corey Rich says he used Twixtor to get the super slow-motion shot on his website.

  • @Synnergy08 right, well if you read what i said you would know that i already know that and thats the point i was making that he must have used 720p>twixtor>upscale

  • 3:18 Nuff said.

  • Guys, the slow motion is twixtor frame vector interpolation. Make sure you jack the shutter speed up.

  • Sad that a 60 or 120 fps video rate was omitted for 1080 mode. Run the numbers: 16.2MP times 11fps raw VS 1920x1080@60. Raw is way more data intensive. Throw in that the buffer is 200 images deep and it becomes clear Nikon is holding back on us. Sure, down sampling takes CPU but isn't a 720p60 downsample just as intensive? Plus, the D4 has a 1:1 window mode for 2.7 crop zoom where there is no downsampling. At least give us that in trade for $6k.

  • did you use RC helicopter for some of the aerial shots besides crane?

the slo mo is fantastic, is it possible For the D4 to do the slomo like that? thanks! more power to nikon, nice film btw.

  • Awesome video

  • I'm starting video and have I guess a noob question. How do you do these zoom in when people talk. I mean do you have 2 camera setup or you just zoom in post ? If you simply re-crop in post how do you not loose quality ? PS: amazing work on the video...

  • awesome quality !!!

  • this can't have been shot entirely on a d4.

at 4:56 it goes into a super slow mo that is way faster than the top video speed of 60fps on the d4.

until that point it was good, i'm a canon fan so i wasn't impressed all THAT much. but my jaw dropped when the slow mo came on and i immediately went to look at the specs thinking i would see at least 124fps. nope, no such luck. only 60 and only that at 720. not making me switch to nikon. 1dx all the way.

  • @tiggstah You'd spend $6k on a cam just because it did extra slow slow mo? Why not just use Twixtor?

  • @stmad10 "why not use twixter?" integrity.

but no, i would spend 6k on a canon 1dx because it is the very best in class. or at least it will be when it is released. and 6k is really not all that much considering that is 2k less than the body it is essentially replacing.

i mostly shoot still so video specs are a moot point.

don't get me wrong, i do like nikon too, it's what i started shooting with. i do know the difference between the two and i prefer canon.

  • @tiggstah they probably used twixtor

  • @AndrewJohnMiszerak it's stretching the boundaries of believability that twixter could have pulled that much information from the extremely fast running water to make a 720 at 60fps go 1080 at the equivalent of 600 or 1200 fps, even at 15fps.

this ad hasn't even begun to make me want to purchase nikon, but i am interested in this twixter. if twixter was able to take 60fps and do that... it's clearly a program worth purchasing.

  • Awesome work!!

  • Wonderful (even from a long term Canon user!)

  • Ronald Jenkees brought me here!

  • WOW! (The D4 preformed very well, but) for me the climber stole the show!

  • Greatttttttttt+++++++++++++++++++++

  • MMMMMH

  • Классно когда в жизни есть хобби...не важно, фотография, велосипед или просто ломать себе шею в водопадах...Эти люди просто счастливы !!!

  • Yet we still can not shoot past 30fps..

  • I find it funny that people fail to understand that it doesn't necessarily matter about the camera, it's the person using the camera.

  • Cool video. What's the name of the first song on the video? : )

  • Comment removed

  • Great editing too!

  • Great story, great cinematography and a great look!

  • Have been shooting video with the D7000 for awhile now and although the camera is awesome have never been totally impressed with the video compression. That being said this camera produces some amazing moving images.

Did you use Nikon glass or cinema lenses and did you record to an internal card or external drive through the uncompressed HDMI signal?

Can't wait to get my hands on one even if it will prob be a year from now. Beautiful footage and camera work guys!

  • that Rock Climber made me to piss in my pants.....

  • Crazy rock climbing at 1:25 I'm impressed.

  • I would be awesome to see a making of video. I want to know all the other gear that they are using.

  • @bikemediageek We are make the behind the scenes as we speak, should be released later next week.

    英語はわからないけど、映像がとても綺麗でセンスがあって、スリルのある内容が特にfantasticでした!!

  • I've watched this over 4 times now and I still can't get enough of it! This is simply ORGASMIC. <3

  • man if i had this camera i would record more and better skate videos... damn please give me one ahhhhh!!

  • @earlnyk buy one of it with the lens!

  • 英語わかりましぇーん

  • Somebody can please tell me whats the name of the song in minute 5:22 and on? Id really appreciate it.

  • @walterlol Ronald Jenkees - Stay Crunchy

He's an independent and his music is ALL over YouTube. He's so talented, check it out! :]

  • @walterlol As said above... Ronald Jenkees is the man. He has an album on iTunes as well.

  • alex honnold!!!! <3

  • SO, how does he get off that rock? 4:15

  • 感動!!

  • すごっ

  • And with a price tag 2-3 times higher than the canon 5DMkII... nope, not worth it. If you have the dough for this, keep saving and get a C300 instead if you're looking to make film.

  • Quality video = 5DMKII

    (In my opinion...)

  • I AM EXPENSIVE

  • I came for Ronald Jenkees, but I stayed for Ronal Jenkees.

  • The rock climbing is edited I think.

  • @PhotoShopChannel Maybe, but google Alex Honnold. He's done El Capitan in 5h49m, solo.

  • @asidrayne If you look at the rock at 4:20 you can see during the cut the the top half of the rock shifts a pixie, but the bottom right of the rock does not, like it was masked out in After Effects but moved a bit.

  • @PhotoShopChannel What do you mean? Of course it is edited we had a ton of angles. Do you want to watch every move he did? That would take longer than the video itself.

I was part of the production, please clarify?

    -Dane Henry

  • @DeepRootsMedia I'm not saying its fake, in fact I'm pretty sure its all 100% real, I was just wondering why the top half of the rock jolted down a pixel or two when the cut was made just after 4:21 .

  • @PhotoShopChannel Thanks for the clarification. And nice catch at 4:21! Corey was hanging on the wall shooting, his shadow was moving around and we needed to lock it.

    -Dane Henry

  • I love it how you get caught up in their stories and forget that it was all shot on the D4

  • @lexnite22 Yes, I know, but not at 60FPS.

  • RONALD JENKEES!

  • About time Nikon....

  • Favorited because of how amazing the video is, whether it was filmed with Nikon or Canon, it's really good. And also Nikon is doing a very good job, about time.

  • WHOA 4:54 that can't be 30fps

  • @Anton338 yeah definitely, dunno how he achieved that effect. :O

  • @Anton338 60 FPS, in 720p.

  • @PhotoShopChannel Video's in 1080, buddy.

  • Sweet video, very well edited.

I'm most impressed with the very appropriate use of Ronald Jenkees.

  • I almost forgot about the camera while watching this masterpiece...

  • Canon is fucked.

  • What lenses were used to shoot this movie?

  • 127...

  • I love Alex honnald

  • I'm don't have a degree in photography and I'm no pro photographer but some people here simply do not agree with me that sensor size DOES have an effect on depth of field. Video from a full frame sensor (36x24) will result in a shallower depth of field compared to even most Hollywood films because even though most are shot on 35mm, the image is usually 3-perf format (Canon has even designed their new EOS C300 digital movie cameras with same sensor size of 3-perf format: 24.6x13.8 mm).

  • This video is not a testimony of a good camera but good camera man

  • D4 can shoot timelapse but how can it shoot slow motion? Look at the 4:56. There is a slow motion and it is over 60fps. How?

  • @serhanaltug Twixtor does it

  • @serhanaltug I was thinking the same thing.

  • the bicycle women doesn't have balls ?

  • The guy plunging off waterfalls has balls...

  • rock climber almost died.

  • Astonishing !!!

  • whats the first song called? anyone know?

  • Wuddup Ronald Jenkees!

  • the rock climbing guy looks like merlin...

  • Awesome video, irrespective of who or what did it.. but man, that D4 is *very* impressive and totally worthy of being the successor to the D3s. Now, if I could ask anything, I would wish that they made more of them, because I personally do not want to wait 6-8 months before being able to get one!

  • Ronald jenkees!

  • Alex Honnald solo'd Half Dome, a 2,000 feet ascent with no ropes, he is not human

  • Great!!!!

  • oh shit my man ronald jenkies getting his music in this vid

  • とてもすてきです。

  • What most people don't know is because it's a full frame sensor, video shot on this camera will have shallower depth of field when compared to most digital and film cameras used for films or HDTV broadcast (HD = usually 2/3" sensor, 35mm/Red = usually Super-35 3-perf sized sensor which is equivalent to APS).

  • And many cinematographers love shallow depth of field as it adds a somewhat three dimensional feel to the video rather than being flat when shot on smaller sensors.

  • @vangmx As a pro photographer and with a BSc in Photo Sc - sorry but your comment about depth of field is related to the size of the sensor is total nonsense. It is a function of the focal length of the lens and aperture. The full frame sensor is the same size as a 35mm still film camera.

  • @tresise actually a full frame sensor does have a shallower depth of field than a smaller sensor camera

  • @5019JPC

It's not the actual sensor that achieves the shallower depth of field, but the lens itself. Full-Frame bodies require lenses with higher magnification in order to achieve the same field of view than cropped sensor bodies, so it's the higher magnification that allows it to achieve more shallow depth of field.

  • @tresise

Yikes as someone that is a pro photographer AND a BSc in Photo Sc, you just royally embarrassed yourself!

Any informed PRO photographer will know that there are *5* control aspects that pertain to control of depth of field, and yeah, sensor size is indeed one of those factors!

    jerryphpics.blogspot.com/2010/12/dof-to-next-level.html

And this coming from another pro photographer... without a BSc nor the need to brag about it.

  • @JerryPHcom Thank you! And I was confused for a bit by someone with a BSc in Photo Sc.

  • @tresise Sorry bud, your comment is HALF nonsense. Both The size of the sensor and the lens characteristics (Speed & Focal Length) play an integral role in the depth of field of an image. A larger sensor will inherently have the ability to have a shallower depth of field than a small sensor, that is then compounded by a fast lens and a long focal length.

  • New baby D4 coming soon.

  • 1:48 "In my world, the only constant is that there is no constant" - so I'm guessing you never went to school when you lived in your Dad's RV...

  • @HuwReesMusic wow don't hate on these guys, they do what they love to do :l

  • @corderok84 It's ok, I'm sure they'd take the micky out of my kayaking :P

  • @CedricAutier also I thought the whole video was supposed to be shot @1080p, at which the D4 cannot do 50/60fps... (or am I completely wrong?)

  • @sashimifr The slow motion is done in post, using a technique called Optical Flow, its very computer intensive, fast PC/MACs take hours to create a few seconds of footage.

  • @KinsTV @pjcasabuena @CedricAutier I've tried twixtor a couple of time and usually you get artefacts, especially when stuff appears/disappears such as lumps of falling water which merge/unmerge. Seen the same kind of artefacts when twixtor is used by professionals slowing down gopro frames...

  • note: iso starts at 100 not 200

  • @sashimifr they do the slow-motion part using 50 or 60 fps shots and interpolation in post

  • @ 3:40 My hands were sweaty just watching this guys climb!

  • Stay Crunchy my friends

  • This is beautiful. :D

  • How did they do the super-slowmo part ?

  • @sashimifr IDK how they did it, but twixtor does magic. :D
