  • i have a macbook and it turns off on me too sometimes if i touch the bottom left corner where you plug in the cord for my battery it shuts off on me. would this be my logic board or my battery???? if anyone knows can you plz help me thanks

  • happens to me in the boot up.

  • i had the same problem took it to apple where charging me 300 to replace my logic board because the cpu chip was over heating and turning off to protect the computer from over heating. I took it tto some it guy charged me 100 bucks and he retooled the CPU and for the last couple of months my computer has been working perfectly, so dont take it to apple take it to computer repair that deal with make and they can retool the heat sink on your cpu

  • OMG i have the same problem but i have a packyard bell i have vista

  • ....this happened to one of my old MacBooks and it's has been happening to me with my MacBook unibody, so annoying!

it even shut down when the lid was closed and I wasn't using it and it sill had 1.5 hour battery life.....WTF?

  • Hi everybody ,

mine had same problem (built july 2007) , but ONLY ON BATTERY POWER , so just test it with a battery from a macbook without this problem . If it doesn't shut even with 4 videos playing on Youtube and Itunes running , there you go , that's the damn battery .

Mine as never shut down on AC power .

My battery actually doesn't sustain heat dissipation or whatever else needed more power from it (sorry I'm not too technical with this ) .

  • I have the same problem with my Macbook White C2D 2.2. Even installing the SMC control and speeding up the RPM, the mac is still having the problem.

  • its overheating because your fan it not working.knock it 10 times on the top of the numclock

  • could you explain this in more detail.

  • dude this is because your fan its not working.i got the same issue but i fixed it.install smc control then you will see if your fan is working.trust me.

  • i kind of have the same problem does anyone know how to stop it?

  • i have a compaq with vista and i sign on then about 5mins later is shuts down help me plz anyone

  • i have same problem with my vista it just shuts off if you figured out why can you tell me plz

  • Its overheating. Try keeping it cooler.

  • had the same problem it was the battery

  • i ordered another battery from bestbuy and i still have another brand new one but the one i have now has 79% charge which i still think is good but ill try to change it out and see what happens

  • sorry i ment to say i reset the power management setting

take your battery out and hod the power button for 5 seconds then let go and but the battery back in and problem solved!

  • i shall try that but it usually happens to me every few days or so but once it gets annoying i will try that

  • Welcome to the republic of CHINA!!! thats the problem with these machines. lol.

there is something about thier manufacturing facility, they dont use a tough enough solder on the bottom of the BGA IC chips that are on the logicboard. they have been plauged with random problems since the ibook, and usually reflowing the BGA solder fixes it all the time. Its the grade of solder they use and the heat that they endour.

some of the geforce cards were plauged with that.

  • winxp or something is the best OS ever it is the windows operateing system with linux under it so its stable as linux but runs the programs on windows

  • Thats what Macs do best, crash.

    Apple support sucks.

  • @KevKo95 hilariously wrong!

  • lol check battery retard

  • sleep timer maybe?

  • lmao that happend to my aluminum macbook but i got a new one tho

  • thats why you don't buy macs, or ever even try to talk to they're customer service

  • no offence but pc's have way more problems, unless you use linux lol

  • get a new battery and and get the hard drive fix because mines happened because of the hard drive was fucked up..

  • your battery is fucked up.....

  • its so terrible, i want to swith. omg. would you like to give me some advices about buying a macbook?

  • i got mine on the 19th of september, and i LOVE IT so far...

    -hrag500

  • Sept 19. That's my birthday.

    I got mine September 18th. :)

White. 2GB Ram. 320GB hard drive. 2.4GHz Processor.

  • hello i have a question today i turn on my computer and after 20 minutes it shutdown and restarded while i was playing a game i dont know if its going to shutdown again but can someone help me and its not the game its the king of fightes 2002 plrase reply

  • just wanted to let everyone know. The whole 13.5 inch screen is BULLSHIT. Ever notice the really huge border around your macbook screen? Well that's so they can call it 13.5, but really it's only a tiny bit smaller than the 15 inch! They purposefully made your screen smaller so they could call it 13.5, but really it's like a 14 or 14.5! It's totally a scam and I love apple but it's shit like this that totally makes me angry. I have a fourteen inch computer with a 13 inch screen. BULLSHIT.

  • it LOOKS like it overheated and shut itself down to protect itself. it could also be a bad hard drive or hardware problem

  • soz lol so r u a bit smart

i got a few problems not on my pc but on my friendz pc

  • well if randomly shutting down how u get it on u tube?????

  • with a pc

  • Another computer.. Wow.

  • We've had our macbook for a little over a year now. We are having the same problem. I guess this is what happens when someone has a monopoly on hardware. Depending on what the people at the apple store tell me tomorrow will decide whether my next mac is a hackintosh. I don't feel I should have to pay for a repair that is due to a design flaw...

  • Bad HDD.. stopped spinning and shut the laptop off =(

  • Man, i am now using this exact white macbook and no probs here... i am even commenting now. :) Well looks like ur gonna have 2 replace it or fix the problem at a nearest apple store...

  • you my friend are an idiot.

  • Are you trying to say that PC's never have problems???? I DONT THINK SO SOME HOW.

  • this could be down to 3 things

    1. Bad stick of ram but would have to be a totaly fucked stick

2.Over heating this could be making resister or even the processor lift up and part from the logic board and shorting out the laptop

    3. you have a bad battery that just shorts outs this can in any laptop and dont forget get sony make most the battery in laptops like Apple's

  • my school tricked me into buying a macbook and this happen to me as well

  • hey, the same thing happened to me,like Macintosh2325 said you have to replace the battery or it will contuine doing it. Also if your battery is weak, it will sutdown when you run the internet and many other applications....hope it helps

  • replace the lithium ion battery in probably exceeded all of its cycle charges.

  • very weird

you shouldnt of put this on youtube it is weird

  • yo mine turs on stay and then is shows lines across the screen and it freezes

  • word same with mine but its a G4

  • LLLOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLL

  • It's the ghost in your house.

  • hairy arm .. ... . LOL

  • if it isn't the battery it's a hard drive problem

  • still better than anything, he is used to ;)

  • I got a macBook Pro with the saem issue, not this persistent yet, but annoying already! Possible reasons are faulty HD or RAM. Or just some random HW bug.

  • sounds like either a battery leakage (yeah this can happen when it is plugged in,) though i did not see it plugged in.... Or, your processor is overheating.

  • did you just get this (when) or is it an older and what things (memory & processor) did you get with it.

  • it might just be going to sleep - try pressing a key, instead of turning it back on, and changing your preferences to put the comptuer to sleep after more htan 1 minute.

  • no, unfortunately it actually shut down. I'm having the same problem, makes doing any computer related activity nearly impossible...

  • I've seen this before. Somebody spilled water on your computer. When it evaporates, it leaves behind a layer of minerals that seriously mess with the circuitry. Have your computer cleaned at an Apple-certified repair shop, and if you value your warranty, don't tell Apple.

  • mabey it's out of battery???

  • no, he presses the battery indicator in the video, plus it wouldn't matter because it's plugged in.

  • and the battery could be leaking acid,i would recommend to remove battery if this is the issue, place it on cement in a ditch were nothing will run and leave it there for a couple days...if you notice any dscoloration of the cement or plastic around battery,or worse acid on the cement. remove the battery with caution and place it in a metal tin and place that by your trash can with a lable sayig leakeing battery acid or sumin...i have seen a pic of a computer burning cuz of falty battery before

  • One thing I saw in common with each video, the mac wasn't attached to a power supply. Are you sure your battery didn't just die? When the mac was shown the second time it was near a power cord, meaning it may have been charged for a few minutes and lasted for a little while before losing batter power again. That's just what it looked like from here, but I'm not saying I don't believe you. They ended up giving you a new computer right?

  • if you look here, it IS connected to a power supply...

  • Did they do anything about the problem?

  • your mac is dead

as much u turn it on it ll allways shut down

  • bill gates uses apple...

  • Reinstall os x with the cd it came with

  • all you mac haters on here are complete idiots. you all think bill gates is god..and hes nothing but a retard...so go whine about your mac hatred somewhere else..dont wanna here it on here...

  • bill gates used to work for mac lol so technically if the dis mac they dis pc.

  • LOLOLOLOLOL EPIC EXPRESSION +1

  • Go to ur settings and go to Energy saver. MAke sure nothing conflicts with eachother

  • It's probably your battery

  • It also happens with power chord - with and without battery.

  • probably the power supply

  • it also happens to my PC maybe cause your computer is overheated

  • Same problem here, the Computer Monitors CPU-, GPU-, GPU Heatsink-, MemoryController-,

Casing-, and ambient temperature, but the readings on the moments of the crashes are often far below the maximum ones... Must be something different.

  • wow ur retraded

  • thats some stupid shit my friend wrote in...

  • i'll buy this from you for $80 shipped. Deal?

  • i would also add that after 2 days, with no evident reason, my IDVD app stopped to works, its shuts down after a second. APPLE "SIMPLY DOESNT WORK" remeber that folks deciding to buy or not to buy macbook, you will be frustrated some time!!!!

  • hi all, i had "a freeze" situation after trying to install many fonts at one time(pc would never have problem with that). I needed to shut down my macbook and he didnt want to turn on. I came back after few hours and every thing was ok. Its a GIANT LIE that it "SIMPLY WORKS" as apple says to you. Really. Im afraid of future of my macbook but i have also PC which is more powerfull and usefull in fact

  • Yeap, It sucks, I have exact problem and now to make worse, i tried to update the firmware and i think in the middle of the update it shut down and it would boot up any more.

  • Mac sucks, and now you see why, among the myriad of other reasons. They simply make a fancy looking computer, throw some gizmos on it, and charge an assload of money. I could buy a PC that does everything this does and more, with a 15" monitor instead of 13, and higher stats. Mac sucks, they only survive on the stupid yuppy scum that buy them because they cost more than anything else, it's a status symbol, period.

  • You may have a valid point, however you failed to mention the price at which you could purchase this power-house PC you speak of.

  • hi this is exactly wat happens with my mac sometimes it wants to turn on the other it doesnt

  • try using a graphic intensive application. If it shutdowns even faster. Your laptop is probably overheating just like the MacBook Pros. Macs get really hot because of that processor. 2.2? 2.0 Ghz? thats a lot for a mediuum sized laptop like that. Do some fan control or maybe just send it to the apple store.

  • i would be fuckin pissed if that kept happenin. what happend to once uve got a mac u cant go back? lol i could easily go back on this one.

  • I am so jealous of you! I got a macbook this christmas and two day later, it did not come on. The hard drive ran and the soft light came on. But What do I do when this happens???

  • youre so lucky u have one. tried to convince parents for ages even though i have a 4.0 and my brothers are spoiled like crazy and i deserve it more than all of my 22 friends who got it for begging while i wrote a 4 page essay! :(

  • u could always save up for one

  • Had to split my response. Weird how it loads these backwards.

  • Each progressive reboot (5 times, or more) has it staying on longer until there is no longer a problem. I just avoid turning it off, and use standby when I go to bed. I'd rather be able to turn it off. I know the reboots have to be hard on it. It acts just like a car in winter. It only works good AFTER it warms up. I'd install a manual choke if it'd help....lol.

  • I have a Dell Dimension 4600. It has a similar problem. I know it isn't heat related because it ONLY occurs with a fresh, cold start. Like being off overnight. It enters a form of standby with the flashing light that it won't come out of without a forced shutdown. It'll even cut out during the booting process.

  • Yea use SMC fan control. Set it to the highest fan speed and you shouldn't have that problem :)

  • i think that the macbook is getting too hot, therefore it shuts down. i had the same prob. If that is the problem try to buy a fan that can go on the macbook

  • lol most boring video ever :D

Im feeling sory for you though

  • imgonna be honest...ididnt watch the whole thing..

  • i think that it's when it's sleeping

i know that ibooks would have that problem

i use ibooks at school, and if it sleeps it takes alot to get it to wake up again.

i would sit there just running my hand on the trackpad. it really does loo like it shuts down, but it doesn't.

i don't know if you hav etried moving the cursor around franticly, but it seems to help

  • It seems like apple and its employees have kind of an ego when it comes to their computers. They can't believe for a second that one of there computers wouldn't work perfectly. I am looking at getting a macbook, I just hope I don't get a dud, and have to put up with this bull, I know lots of others have...

  • I'm also looking at MacBooks for the awesome video editing software and downloads they have, but with all the problems, I don't think I will be getting one anytime soon.

  • never had problems with a mac.. will never go back to pc

  • utter SHIT!

  • I was going to buy a macbook, but with all the recorded problems, ie: random shutting down, hard drives dying, case cracking and discolouring and only a measly 3 month warrantee, I think I'm going keep my old trusty G4 Perbook and buy a PC laptop.

Apple has lost me as a customer, not that they woud care!

  • Before the computer shuts down, quickly go to the Apple Support website and go to the MacBook section. One of their suggestions is to (if you haven't already), 'update the firmwire'. This may help with the random shutdowns.

  • OMG, easy, it's a little shutdown... If this happens aigan close the monitor and open it aigan, then click enter and it'll be there aigan, means he's just in a Standby-Mode... try this... it's easy... send me a message, if this happens aigan...

  • this sometimes happens to me, but only when I overrun the RAM or processor. Macbooks were only meant for light to medium use, so its best that we don't have 42 applications open at once!

  • im thinking of buy a macbook and i hear about all these problems so im not sure now?

can some1 please tell me what i should do and or wich macbook i should get? like tell me the new model names.

  • macbooks are amazing

  • The MacBook is JUNK! My husband and I both bought one. We both had the problem with random shutdowns, had to have batteries replaced, new cases. This morning my hard drive blew up and I lost EVERYTHING! I'm sure the same will happen to my husband's computer. You'll find my macbook on ebay as soon as the repairs are made. My LAST apple purchase. Buyer Beware!!

  • You're making wrong conclusions... You're just pissed off becouse you've lost your files, the hard-drive can crash on any computer, and specially on pc's. You are very unlucky to get a macbook which has this malfunction, so don't yack about it and be happy for the repair...

  • Well, I've been in business 12 years and have owned/still own 13 PCs. I haven't had to replace a single hard drive. You do the math. Unlucky would be if I were the only one...problems with this machine are posted everywhere. YOU are just one of those MAC sheep who thinks steve jobs is jesus and are incapable of forming an objective opionion about anything.

  • If you, without reading more than my only comment on this page, think i do not have objective opinions on anything, you should read your own comment... "YOU are just one of those MAC sheep who thinks steve jobs is jesus and are incapable of forming an objective opionion about anything."

Besides, i've lost several video-projects using pc's, and I have never been saying that Bill Gates is a retard, only making OS's crashing your files...

whatever, I still love mac... and Steve Jobs IS jesus :P

  • My computer does the exact same thing!!! I'm on it right now and its not plugged in. I worry about it shutting down on me. And yeah, my battery still has half power! i don't know why it does it :(

  • thats right, OVERHEATING, I just sent mine in and got the problem fixed cuz my macbook was doing the same thing

  • It is called overheating, most laptops have this problem. Some models overheat more often then others.

  • maybe you need to recharge it or plug it in

  • yeh tru that.

i rekon cuz hes not been plugging it in. same as a mobile fone, only without any alert.

  • The new models do not have this problem! Apple found out that they used to much thermal glue and it was making it overheat and when it overheats it shuts down. In the new models they fixed this problem.

  • I have a widget that i just have to press the power butten on the widget and then in whatever time I set it 4, and in that time it will shut down autmatically shut down

  • I know apple hardware is know to fail much sooner than standard pc hardware, i am PC enginner and what ever you say about how bad windows based hardware is, is it relaible, i gor so worried eveytime i turn my ibook on, will it start, or is this the day it gives up, my pc based laptops are almost indestruable, i never have any worries about hardware failuires, come on apple, build some reliability into your hardware,

  • im getting a macbook and that scares me.

what were the green lights on the bottom of the laptop?

  • hey i did some research on the macbook cause im getting on soon... sometime this week... and from what i read the new models dont have this problem... but i have experienced it in other laptops... my vaio and my hp.. in these computers it is cause from the ram solder points coming loose and then they dont always make contact... so when they disconnect the computer detects no ram and shuts down

  • If you have Apple Protection Plan, I have this with my MacBook Pro Santa Rosa I am typing on, they will fix it for free, as long there is no spill damage.

  • Yeah I'm not too thrilled with Apple's Customer Care.. iTunes completely cleared my iPod Video in about late February or early March, I don't remember. It took a week of arguing emails with Apple to finally let me redownload all of the songs I had purchased on my account.

I really hope that nothing like this happens to my MacBook, because I really don't LIKE to fight to get the proper justice.. But I will.

    I'm 17, too. Ha..

  • I also had this EXACT problem with my MacBook Pro So I figured that the hard drive was broken. I took it to the Apple Store but they refused a rebate. The only software I installed on the Mac was firefox. But I had to haggle for two hours before I could have a replacement. My current Mac Book Pro is not showing any problems and I have all software installed on my Mac. M concern is The hinge on Mac Book PRO gets hot or very hot. Should I be concerned?

  • I have a MBP Santa Rosa and you should not be concerned unless it is so hot it burns you. My hinge is hot but not killer hot.

  • you do know, that you have to upgrade your firmware -_- look at the macbook website! problem solved

  • that really does suck. You should try blowing it up. Its more fun and then youll never have the problem again :P

  • yea i had this same problem actually then found out that there was a recall on the battery cause of problems like this so you might want to check that

  • Well. Had exactly that problem with my first Macbook.

The shutdowns had a slighly higher occurance with heavy disk IO.

Sympthoms worsen during the last 2 days of operation. Until the disk would not spin up any more. Did some more testing with a replacement disk from the office. Worked like a charm again. So this might be the same thing going on here. Anyway noted this to my local Apple reseller. Got a replacement macbook out for delivery within about 4 hours. So I'm quite pleased.

  • Lol sadly i had that problem with my old hp laptop. That means you dropped it to many times and when it heats up.The battary connectors come lose.

  • That was exciting as watching paint dry. The newer Intel processor Macs can run Winders natively like a standard PC box. Boot Winders or OS X, your choice. Or they can run OS X with Parallels to control a Winders VM. The older PowerPC Macs can't run Winders unless you run Winders under Virtual PC for Mac or similar.

  • fuckface its windows not winders

  • OMG just ordered my black one yesterday 2GhZ, 120 GB HDD, 1GB ram. cant wait.. comes between april 30th and May 4th :):):)

  • I am a computer technician and i have to say over heating is really the only problem it looks like it has if the hardware was bad it never would have booted up in the first place. also if you didn't have it plugged into an outlet it might mean the battery is bad.

  • i love windows

but i have to admit those macs look kind of sweet

    but can macbooks run xp?

  • yes they can run any kind of windows

  • awesome.

but i would rather spend a grand building my own pc.

then coffing up 2 grand for a macbook

  • well the macbooks seeing as how there are macbook pros and the new tabbook or somthing coming out are getting cheaper, the model i have been looking at is 1,200 but there is an even cheaper model but it can only connect to the internet wirelessly at wi-fi hotspots and has less harddrive and memory.

  • you drive a hard bargain :]

    lol

sounds good i may go look into one of those mac book thing things

but i still love windows more

even if vista was a waste of everyones time

  • yea i have been useing windows all my live i have never touched a mac or had a laptop so it will be a two in one complication if i had one, but i hear mac OSX (there kind of software like windows) is really easy to learn.

  • 'there kind of software like windows' is wrong. IBM came out the the GUI interface instead of the DOS line. Steve Jobs went to IBM and thought it was a great idea! Apple then improved on the GUI. Apple was the first computer company to offer the GUI to the general public. Windows did the GUI thing later!

With Parellels, you can run Window and OSX on the came computer. tests show that XP runs faster on a MAc than on a PC box!

  • (to southerncoboy)

I have a vid on my account that proves that

  • Obviously THAT computer has a problem. It can be currupted files or some hardware problem such as over heating and the sistem shuts down to protect the equipment. I have a MacBook just like that one and that never happens. And for you PC guys, I run both WINDOWS and MAC OS X on the same machine. Show me an IBM Compatible capable of running Mac OS ;) Take it to the shop dude! if under warranty they gotta give u a brand new one.

  • i have a desktop pc rite now, very slow, want to get a macbook, or Hp laptop, dell sucks...

  • All fanboys SHUT THE F**K UP!

I'm writing this comment on my windows PC right now and it isnt breaking down, infact iv had t his now for a year and i havn't had 1 virus. It rarely breaks and has been a work horse for me.

I also have a macbook pro for my bedroom, i can not fault it, its a lovely lookin machine, its fast and hasn't broken yet (touch wood)

So can we please just stop the bickering and embrase both technologies.

  • yea

    your right

but i have to say that u probably have had a virus but you havent found it yet. I was in the same situation and thought the same but one day i turned my pc on while it had been working for 2 years! and it rufused to boot and my hard drive was formatted!!! lost everything!!

  • My iBook G3 does the same thing

  • This does not apply with the MacBooks, but the iBooks and PowerBooks are in a battery recall. It has to do with the overheating and possibly exploding Sony batteries. Take advantage of the recall and let a Genius know what's going on.

  • hahahahhaha... you're funny!

  • Apple - Continuously making futuristic looking pieces of shit that begin with the letter "i".. for example

    iShit

  • wow... that's clever!

  • I want a Mac. Even though in an episode of Diggnation (I believe 46) Kevin Rose's MacBook was randomly rebooting lol.

  • macs suck thats all there is to it

  • You're a idiot. Have you owned a mac or you speaking out of your ass? I own a gaming pc and a macbook and the mac OS and flawless way it works makes it far better then my high end pc.

  • bring it to the mac store and have them update the firmware they did it to mine and it hasnt done it agen

  • my pc's audio randomly shuts off and can't be recovered until I restart. macbooks are not the only thing that have problems squirrel.

  • this is why i dont like mac's they always have problems, so what if it gets solved, if there was 1 error that means more can occur

  • it could be a ghost ooooooooooohhhh

  • same problem. select 'software update' from the apple menu, and download SMC software update. so far so good.

  • hey, i have a mac book too and mine keeps doing this too. i thought it was because of a website i had been using...(myspace) so i stopped using it but it was still happening so i updated all my software and it didnt do it anymore. also i replaced the logic board to make sure it wudnt happen agen nd it hasnt had a problem since
