Bad case of oil burn? But it wouldnt smoke that bad unless it was a diesel leak

I think that it was a 4-position chip and I think this was either 2nd or 3rd. No idea though, to be honest.

@thsteiner yeah its a 4 position chip and i know it has the high idle tune but idk what the other tunes are so ill probably just end up sending it back to total diesel performance and get tony to reburn it

Oh ok. I think I remember now...though it was 6 years ago or so. I think it was:

1 high idle

2 daily driver, better MPG

3 performance

4 black smoke setting

New burns could never hurt anything though.

I miss that truck!! Sold it to a guy in south GA about a year ago. I ended up doing a leveling kit, black wheels, 35's and a new turbo.

90cc stock injectors aint gonna puff smoke get some beans or swamps stage ones with some custom tunes then u can start puffin smoke like the big boys my 97 is runnin 238cc hybrids with tw tunes she smokes a hole lot

hey maybe you can help... I have a 1997 powerstoke 7.3 i have a over size turbo cold air intake 5" exhasut no cat no muffle and a super shit programmer..... and i still cant puff any smoke.. you know why?

bigger turbo causes it to put out less smoke, cleans up it up

Turbo upgrades serve to clean up a lot of smoke actually. More air = better combustion. I had some custom programming to let it make so much smoke - I called it my "Tailgater solution."

Total Diesel Performance in Fort Worth set up the tunes, and it just came with a 4-way chip. The injectors are smaller than stage ones and I got them from Swamps Diesel Performance; they are what they call Baby Swamps.

Read the other comments...sadly, I let the truck go about eight months ago.

It had a muffler and cat, so not straight-piped, but the muffler was a straight through model from Magnaflow.

This was my truck, and no longer belongs to me. I sold it a while back, and though I miss it...I don't miss fillups. Now that diesel is $4/gallon, I know I made the right choice. Sorry...I sold out.

That one got about 18 if I didn't romp on it too much. It got about 14 towing. I drive a Subaru Forester now that pushed 27-28 and is just easier to drive around the Big D.

so is this truck an auto? Have you put on different head studs or modified the HPOP?  I heard that you have to do all that with the 94-97 to hold the power of stage 1's?

four inches from the downpipe back, and I have a round downpipe as well. That is a six or eight inch tip or something ridiculous, but it is only four inches until the end.

It is a Magnaflow muffler, but the muffler only has a 24" baffling compartment. It is Magnaflow PN#14772.
