mercer is old now and cannot learn new tricks. but 10 years ago and if it was in a boxing ring mercer would not only win but would almost certainly knock out kimbo. u may not remember but mercer gave a very hard time to all the top heavy weights of the 90s. @ChAoTiC559 Not at all. Professional fight gloves are usually 8oz even for HW. Also boxers wrap their hands and done properly end up like house bricks. Trust me not much padding there. The heavier gloves are used for training and to prevent injuries to the hands; I use 16oz gloves on the heavy bag. I would agree that it is a MORE complete form of fighting but it is still a sport and shouldn't really be translated to street fighting if that is what you are getting at.

The reason they don't have ffit currently succesful boxers fighting in mma is because they are already good at boxing and don't have any incentives to switch sports. If floyd mayweather or manny pacio wanted to be in an mma match I guarentee you they would be fighting in a big show pretty quickly. The reason they are not is because they don't want to.
