  • Great Music!

  • thanks,,,,,,,,,,,,this brings back memories,,, used to play this with a college band at montreux 78

  • A friend of mine introduced me to MF about a year ago. We both have a common thread about us, we played trombone. I was wondering if anyone knew who was 1st trombonist in this video. Thank you for any info.

  • Lin Biviano was in Buddy Rich's band thru Jan or Feb of 1972, which means this had to have been taped in 1973.

  • Maynard rolled into Chabot College in Hayward, CA for this show. I actually had a tape recorder on me and taped it. When the trumpets came out in the audience at the end of Hey Jude to echo Maynard on stage, Lin Biviano stationed himself right by me and I put the mike right in front of him. It's a great tape!!

  • My God, I may have been in the audience! - 72 would be about right - It was in the gym at Santa Barbara City College. Ill never forget - there was not that big a crowd and the band left the floor and surrounded the audience and played Hey Jude - OMG!!

  • Is the tenor player standing in a hole? BRUCE JOHNSTONE on baritone!!!!

  • WOW! This is as good as GOLD! I have never seen a live performance of this chart. It was one of my favorites when I was a young trumpet jazz ensemble player in the early 70's. Thanks for posting this! Brings back some memories!

  • sick man! yeah!

  • I think that's Bill Chase playing lead. Hard to tell.

  • Lin Biviano is playing the lead book here...

  • Thanks. It couldn't have been Bill Chase. He was recording with Chase by then.

  • @SAAMIAM99 Bill only played w MF in 1958. That's Bivinao

  • This lead trumpet player invented the "mojo" and really loves it.

  • @crabboil929 the lead player was Lin Biviano.

  • Looks like a lot of fun. I saw the band In Dayton Ohio in 1983 or 1984 it was great!

  • That first section, the sax soli, is MEAN!!!!!!!!!

  • @Stepdenisethetrumpet We're playing this piece in my band this year. Its wicked when you have a tight section!

  • Steinberg,@Ferguson..great

  • Who is all in the trumpet section here?

  • ya it is abene. my band is playing this chart and it specifically says arranged by mike abene and jeff steiberg

  • Thanks for all of your attention! I'm betting it is Abene. Too early for Jay Chattaway who wrote for Maynard in the late 70s.

  • Thanks for this great vid. I saw this group at this time and it looked like a bunch of yellow and black bees on stage. What a show. At he end Maynard's boys would come out into the aisles and wail on the end to Hey Jude. I had a tape recorder going then and put it right in Bivianno's (not sure of the spelling) bell. One helluva tape. RIP MF

  • I love this chart but am not sure of the arranger. Was it Mike Abene? On Live AT Jimmy's it says it was written by Jeff Steinberg. But I think that might be the tune. I am confused.

  • Give me some time. All the album credits is Steinberg.

  • Our band has the original chart. Nothing but Steinberg.

  • The chart (we play it) soley credits Steinberg.

  • sweet. thanks for posting it. the other vid on here has an edit in it. RIP MF
