@wailauryder Wow much mahalos for the kind words my bruddah. It means a lot coming from an established Hawaiian musician, more so from one who also plays ki ho'alu. I'm proud of how you guys are representing Hawaiian music up & down the West Coast & especially Japan. Das how Cuz!!!!!!
@aukai Howzit Aukai, sorry but I no stay Big Island, I stay Honolulu. I was born Hilo but raised Honolulu. My parents still up there in Laupahoehoe. You play ki ho'alu? Email me at dukedomingo58@yahoo.com with one email address that allows attachments & I send you some slack key tabs.
Thanks for the great music & your wonderful style. It's truly amazing to listen to such
a beautiful melody. Glad to see you've put up other samples of this music. In such a tough world it's nice to have a little beauty now & then. Keep up the good "job"!!! And
Mahalo..again for the tunes, neva mind the extra run-off..still sounds good! Maybe a couple okole hau prior to playing will smooth it out a little..ha ha! Still can't wait to buy your CD when it come out..
hey awesome job man.... i was born in hawaii with hawaiian parents but grew up in the mainland and i wanted to learn that so i can play it for our highschool guitar concert... do you know where i can learn this... like tabs or videos or anything mahalo
Thanx for the props bro. I'ts in the Hawaiian Slack Key tuning called Bb Mauna Loa and tuned as follows F-Bb-D-F-G-D from the thickest to thinnest strings. Not too hard to figure out it's mostly a series of pull offs. Good luck with it, it's totally learnable..
Wow man you're awesome! You've inspired me to buy a slack key book. I've been pickin for about a year and have never heard this music. Thanks for sharing your gift.
Not as awesome or difficult as you might think. Sounds harder than it really is. Don't have tabs for this but I do for others. Thank you for the awesome compliment
I lived on Oahu for a couple years and discovered a love of slack key, uke, hula... You remind me of my time there, and the beautiful things the Hawaiian people have brought to our world. Thank you!
Thank you so very much for the kind words. Especially for giving me credit for reminding you of fond thoughts of Hawaii and Oahu where I reside. It thrills me to know that the magic of slack key transported you here for the 4 1/2 minute duration of the song.
Mahalo much for the high praise. I hope I did your papa's music justice with my rendition. Never heard of Uncle Fred Konanui Punahoa until Ledward mentioned him but like so many other aspiring ki ho'alu players your papa unknowingly influenced all of us. He is a true legend of ki ho'alu.
Haha! This one is on my facebook profile too! A few of my friends never even heard this kind of music before, and they love it. I'm from Michigan. Not a lot of island music here...LOL
Howzit,da tuning is Bb Maunaloa. Da Rev. Dennis Kamakahi use dis one planny too. From bass strings down it goes ladis F-Bb-D-F-G-D. Secret to dis tuning is fo' use da 3rd string as paht of da alternating bass scheme....So wat you one lefty jalike me? I wen convert long time ago cause mo' eazy ;-)
Thank you very much for the compliment. The tuning is called "Bb Maunaloa" tuned as follows F-A#-D-F-G-D. Just a whole bunch of pull-offs, sounds more difficult than it is. More than 50% of my rendition is expanding on the original concept.Give it a try & Good luck!!
Greetings from California. I've been listening to all your wonderful videos. Thanks for posting, I'm subscribing and look forward to others. Keep up the good work. THANKS

Great video as always Bruddah Duke.
