  • Thank you for the video... my replacement was a success!

  • thumbs up if the music got annoying

  • "how do i turn this shit off" hahaha

  • Not too bad, but he needs to turn down the radio - that's distracting.

  • how much does a screen for a 650 cost?

  • do you recommend that i try this on my palm treo 680? i droped my phone on the carpet and now my touch screen doesnt work but everything else is perfect! I just wanna know before i spend the costs on getting a new one.

  • great tutorial - i ran across this just about when i was going to get rid of my treo 600, cuz i crushed the screen - tho the phone still works - i am now going to replace the screen and keep the phone becuz of your video - thx - great job

  • works perfectly. :)

  • my dad bought a treo 650 like tree years ago and it now i found it agin and im using it but at first the phone was turning off alot but know thats foixed and nowlike 2 buttons on the keyboard work affter i took it apart :(

  • Screen installed fine, but some buttons don't work now. Re-seated the keyboard cable 3 times now with no luck. Any hints?

  • Just make sure the cable is all the way in to its slot. It may lock in place, but not be in all the way.

  • i had a 650 bonded to verison that was given to me because the keyboard was unresponsive....i couldn't use it because my service is att.....i bought an att 650 on ebay for 20 bucks with a cracked screen.....used your vid to swap the screens and i've got a perfectly working 650 and i'm just ecstatic with it....thanx much..

  • Thanks.

I did and worked. You saved the day and my Treo. Kudos.

  • It's the rubber washer that, at first, I forgot to put back in my Treo in the video. You'll just have to find a way to keep the Treo face down while you put the back cover on. This will not allow it to come up and off of the camera lens.

  • Would this method work with a 680?

  • Answer: The 680 is not a 650. Therefore, I don't know. I also stopped using a Treo years ago. Great idea, awful software.

  • Thanks a bunch! You saved me a lot of cash!!

  • i cant figure out wat model my phone is. HELP PLZ!!!

  • would the screen of a 755 PALM fit my 700 PALM TREO?. . . .

  • ok i have a question can somebody plz help me,i have a PalmTreo 700 and the glass that was in between the screen and the touch screen plastic was broken not the screen though only the glass and i completly took off that glass and i put the touch plastic with the screen by it self and now the touch screen doesnt work,do i need to completly change the whole screen or is my phone mest up

  • Thx so much. Easy fix that I would not have figured on my own.

  • God I love youtube!

  • Does anyone know the type of screwdriver used

  • Open your ears mate... says clearly @ 1:15 to use a Torx T5 ;)

  • Man! this guy deserves a bottle of whiskey honestly this is great help dude! I appreciate You! thanks a bunch

  • awesome video! does anyone have any experience on changing the lcd for dopod m700? hurmm? please?

  • I failed. I had trouble getting the screen's ribbon to get stuck under the latch. Fiddling with it I even broke the black latch off! I couldn't get it back on but I found that with some added pressure the ribbon did get stuck.

I couldn't see the white lines Soteriologist refers to, not on the old or the new screen.

When I put it back together and switched it on, the keyboard lit up but the screen remained black. It does make the appropriate bleep sounds when touching it however. Any pointers?

  • If you broke the latch that holds the ribbon in place you are pretty much S.O.L. That latch is required to apply pressure to the ribbon cable and hold it agains the metal contacts on the mainboard. You'll need to buy another device at this point.

  • awesome!!...but read Soteriologist's comments before you begin..

  • Thanks a bunch. Without this video I would not have ever dreamed of touching the "guts" of the treo (considering I paid a boatload of coin for it.)Just as easy as the clip says, only be extra careful with connecting it all back together. I had to get this right on the second time. I have no idea wheere I went wrong, however the second time it worked great!!!

    Thanks!!!

  • Can I use an old screen from my (Verizon) Treo 650 to replace a cracked screen on my (Cingular) Treo 680? Right now my phone works but no touchscreen, and I don't want to bother taking it apart if the touchscreen parts aren't compatible. Thanks for the awesome instructional video!

  • I don't think you would have any problem with replacing parts like Speakers, Screens, Microphones, keyboards. Its the "Hard drive" you would need to worry about. The place where the "information" is stored (phone number, carrier, ect. I just got an lcd from the internet. The item only said treo 650 used screen. works great! The first time it didn't work. I took the whole thing apart, re did what the clip said again, and the second time it worked.

  • nice video

  • I am having a problem with the LCD, there is no power? Could that be a ribbon placement problem??? This happened after I took my Treo 650 apart. The Lcd and the digitizer and everything else was working : /

  • I must have reassembled it at least ten times without success. Then I read Soteriologist's comments - took it apart one more time and really applied quite a bit of pressure to get the ribbon cable seated proplerly - with success!! Whew. Thanks for the video and thank YOU Soteriologist!

  • Great vid. Probably saved me a big headache, 'cause taking those things apart usually results in the little clips breaking. Worked like a charm!

  • Thanks a bunch dude. just cracked mine today and sprint tells me itll cost $100 to replace.. fuck that right haha

  • Thanks a bunch!!

  • take it apart and reconnect the screen cable

  • Thank you so much!! I'm buying a new screen for my treo and i was under the impression that you just crack it open and replace the screen. I would have broken something or just had no clue what to do. Great and very informative tutorial!!!!

  • Excellent. I thought my new screen wasn't working but this showed me that the ribbon cable needs a bit of a push.

  • Excellent! thanks for sharing your knowledge with others. It helped me to see how to do the display screen connection

  • I successfully replaced my Treo screen - this video was more helpful than the one that came with the site where I bought the screen - especially on putting it back together.

  • How cool that someone made and posted this! It's too bad about the stupid music in the background though... hard to hear the instructions.

  • Awesome tutorial - the fact it was partly in french also helped - I managed not to forget the camera ring ;)

My Treo came back to life after a week of slow progressive descent to the dead - yay!

  • Haha I was like dumbasss you forgot the camera ring.. lol eassyyyyy

  • Awesome tutorial! My phone works great now :D

  • I replaced the screen and it is very, very washed out. As though the contrast is almost zero. Any help on what may be or have gone wrong?

  • Brilliant! I thought my Treo was heading for the spare parts box until I came across this video. Many thanks from the land down under.

The guy looking for a new screen: I got one from Hong Kong via ebay and Fedex - two days door to door and working in 30 minutes. Take a look on ebay for item number 300102924021. HTH.

  • Great video.. It saves a lot of money

  • where can i get a treo 650 replacement LCD screen?

  • you are the killer man. I just finished my replacement. BIGGGUps!!!! (Air Horn). I almost put the cord in the wrong slot the first time so advice to all, If it's not fitting at all you are doing it wrong. Thanks again bro.

  • Be careful doing this, and ground yourself too. I fucked mine up and just bought another 650, one day I'll bring my first one back to life w/ a new screen

  • Yes, ground yourself, as it says in the video description.

  • This is a two part message, this being the second part:

Make sure you plug in the ribbon far enough so that the first white line is completely covered and the second is about touching with the dark brown clip that you clamp down. Be careful not to bend TOOooo much the ribbon, or kink it, BUT you might have to push it in there sorta hard. It's a bit tight of a fit.

    Hope this helps.

  • This is a two part message, this being the first part:

If you look closely at the ribbon cable that's attached to the LCD you'll notice two white lines running parallel on it near the tip/end of the ribbon (the part with the metal leads that you stick into the holster/clip on the main board)...

  • Just so you all know... the part where he had difficulty taking the main board out AND putting it back in is because there is a small plastic "hook" located near the antenna base and infrared port at the top that keeps the mainboard tight against the front plate.

  • hey, what tool did you use to open the treo up?? I couldn't hear you..

  • dude thats freakin awesome! i just got a treo 600 from ebay, it has a small orange spot on the screen and im going to pick up a new lcd screen, will this method work for the 600? dumb question but ya know, i gotta ask, your video is just genius

  • cheaper != guaranteed to work

  • i need help. what do i do when i cant get any picture on the screen at the end. Please help, this is kind of a big deal

  • check the connections you had to disconnect during the process, something may be loose. oh and if you didn't ground yourself while working on the treo.. you may have fried it. *cheers*

  • thanks for the vid. Took me about 10min and now my friend's Treo works again

  • Thanks for the video!! It saved me tons of money. Cingular doesn't insure these phones and I thought I was totally screwed. Bought my replacment screen on eBay for 59 bucks plus 10 for shipping and fixed it myself with your video! That was less than I would have spent on the stupid insurance if they had offered it.

  • THink about this, if you used micro payments, you could have made $30,000 from this video selling it at a$1 a view...just a thought, almost like selling crack, that easy

  • If I had charged money, there might be 1/4 the views, and people asking for a lot more personal assistance.

    No thanks :)

  • it was mentioned it in the video

it's a Torx driver using a Torx T5 bit size. You can find this at any hardware store.

  • I followed the instructions and the new screen looks great and works great. Only trouble now is some of the letter keys on the keyboard don't work - it only affects certain letters. So now I can't text message nor use the internet browsing that requires me to input usernames and passwords due to the inability to use certain letters on the keyboard after doing this upgrade. Any advice?

  • Correct! Build up on the screen or bezel (plastic frame) can cause problems with the touch screen. Anyone attempting this replacement will need to make sure that all dust/debris is cleaned from the plastic frame that fits over the screen. This will aid in getting your new screen completely operational. :)

  • Sweet!! Well done. Way to go, my friend -- what a public service. You rock!!!! (Could have used a little less of the F word, though.)

    Anyway, thank you!

  • Animan246.. sent you a private message, anyone else, make sure all cables are properly connected, also, you may have gotten a bad replacement.. i.e. the screen works but the digitizer is fried.. contact the supplier

  • thanks for the post... I had the same problem with my screen.. you helped me save about $100.... if ur in Wash State.. Ill buy ya a beer...

  • maybe your connection died.. almost 10,000 views, no problems yet :) try again! you can also find this video on Google Videos

  • Nice work!!! Tech geeks rule!!

  • I have to say that watching this video did guide me to complete a successful LCD replacement on my Treo 650, however I will say that it could have been shot with a better camera and the music in the video is annoying. I would much rather had watched it if it was a little more professional looking. However, thank you for providing it!

  • Music is free expression, you don't have to like it.

Glad the video was helpful :)

  • Im glad this video was on here, my screen was finished and i just followed the instructions exactly how he said it and i can see my screen again

  •

  • that's good you know how to fix it your own self. Your saving yourself a lot of money. When you commented on my BF2 movie, isn't spawn camping the best way to take over the enemy flag? Isn't that the point to sneak attack on them? And doing that flip in the car is harder then you think - it takes skill. And yes your right thats the satelite, my mistake. Anyways spawn camping is one of the only ways to take over the enemy's spawn point. Unless you have a plane and can bomb them of course.
