The 3. and 4. movies where bad, because it didnt follow the aliens legacy as it should have. The creepy enviroments, the badass soldiers (you find yourself to love those characters hopelessly) where all missing. While the 2. movie was truly different then the first, i think they had the same atmosphere. I want to see and hear that creepy atmosphere again....

I understand other people's animosity about some of the admittedly lame sequels and Predator crossovers (Cool ideas, but still lacking in plot depth/character depth,etc.) Unlike a lot of people here I WOULD like to see a proper prequel involving the "Space Jockeys" (Is that what they're called?) I.E. The beings that were the pilots of the alien ship found in the first movie.
I'm so happy that this is not really a prequel to Alien movie, but rather a new stand alone story set in the same universe, that takes place before the Alien movie.

Can't help but get excited about it (Especially as Ridley Scott is involved) i probably should know better than to trust Fox. I came out of the Cinema after watching Alien 3 gutted! Fincher did his best under constant pressure and countless re-writes to make a decent sequel,but It could have been so much better! I got built up again for Ressurection..but leaving the cinema (gutted again) after watching that pile of shite, I knew i'd just witnessed the death of the Alien Franchise!

@smashingmartian i share in your opinion, but ive got to say that my view of alien 3 has softened over time, especially after how bad alien ressurection was, and how even worse the alien vs predator films were. but the "alien" name has been too badly damaged, so prometheus stands a better chance by only taking on the elements it wants (weyland yutani, space jockey) and ditching the rest, im quietly confident of seeing a xenomorph at some point though, possibly late on......
The mystery of this project is already beginning to swell in my psyche. I REALLY hope they don't fuck this up. The original Alien movie was Ridley's magnum opus and he is what has been missing from the franchise ever since 1979. I'm glad Fox required him to direct in order to greenlight the project. It shows they have at least some taste. This is really giving me a nerd boner!

@reviewreviewer1 Blade Runner had no story. It was all over the place, too busy showing us sweeping visuals. But the characters were weak, the love story remained undeveloped, and the film ended up seeming very illogical and having no message. Fans started writing into it things that weren't there, but that's another matter. As for the other films you mentioned, there was nothing about them worthy of a director who is supposed to be some genius. Alien is his only great film.
@reviewreviewer1 well it's all more implied than actually shown. i personally couldn't care less for any of the characters nor did i find the whole thing very intelligent. the film would have been a lot better with fewer action scenes and a little less time spent showing us the world itself on the one hand, and stronger character building and better character interactions on the other. we are left watching a guy we don't care about shooting replicants we don't care about.

@reviewreviewer1 It is not developed beyond the superficial level. We learn very little about Deckard and we learn practically nothing about the other characters. They are there for the chase scenes only and to pose in spectacular visual compositions, but they do little more.

The film fails on both the intellectual and emotional level.

I don't know, but there seems to be something in the air that they will be trying to mingle the space jockey in so as to make the plot run deeper, to baffle audiences with a plot showing how humans can be small against aliens etc, but mainstream TV scriptwriters don't seem to go well with innovation and boldness in movies... crappy movie alert!
@felixn65 Well the space jockey or Pilot species is really an integral part of the Alien folklore, they were responsible for the extreme spread of the xenomorph and eventually caused their own demise because of it so it will be quite interesting to see what Scott does with this story's history.
I have to say that while interesting in comic form or novels it has its problems and cheesy moments so he cant do a whole lot worse lol.
@vvrath I agree, while certain plot elements are necessary to maintain a certain feel to a film innovation is the key to success. For example, the first Alien was great, scary, and fun but also a bit corny too. It was unique. But when Cameron decided to do Aliens in 85 he knew he couldn't do the same formula so he stirred it up and added new interesting elements and made a sequel that surpassed the original, then we get three which went right back to the original formula and sucked, questions?
@Narasukedon If you want that my friend you need to start screaming at sega, they have the rights to Aliens: Colonial Marines, which is a very nice take off from the Aliens film, and like the jackass wankers they always are they are withholding it. There is some back story how the Space Jockey were acting as Gods and Engineers, who created the Xenomorphs as biological weapons. How the Prometheus ship and it's crew gets entangled with this on the planetoid LV-426 is unknown at this point. I'm sure The Company are behind it 'again'.....
@BuddhaZenMind Not to be a stickler for details but the Pilot species did not create the xenomorphs, they did use them in a bio weapon manner but the species did develop on their own home-world. To learn more about this background history look up the Aliens comic/ novel series from earth hive to female war which covers the origin and spread of the species.
It will be interesting to see how Scott interprets the canon for this new film, hopefully for the better =)

You know aside from it being in the vein of Alien I'm excited that Ridley Scott is returning to sci fi after 29 years. Hopefully next will be The Forever War but we won't know for a while. I still cannot believe he is shooting this in 3D HD. I mean this guy loves 35mm. Hopefully he will take that to new ground. Also, I'd love to see him return to the fantasy genre. After all Legend is my favorite of his films!
Why not take your entire Alien fanbase, get their hopes up with promises of two Alien prequels, after they were duped out of Alien: Colonial Marines, or Alien movie since 1997 and use it as a platform to promote an entirely different movie. The only thing we've had in the last ten years are shitty predator crossovers with Aliens that look like sock-puppets. Might as well just release a movie called Aliens vs. Dildos where all the aliens are mutilated by a barage of dicks. What a disgrace.

I was a little disappointed at first when I heard he scrapped the Alien idea and decided to go ahead with something else, but I immediately got over it when I realized it's still Ridley Scott doing sci-fi again.
Cameron's Aliens is an outer space shoot em up basically , the most glaring flaw in Aliens , Resurrection , and the AVP crap is that the Creatures bleed a highly concentrated molecular acid. In Alien Ashe makes a small laser cut on the face hugger and a tiny amount of acid ate through 3 decks of the Nostromo. But Cameron blasts and runs over aliens spraying acid but it doesn't eat though anything not even people. I'll trust Ridley only when it comes to movie making of any genre.
SHould hopefully be better than alien 3 and Ressurection. It should be with the Orginal director back behind the camera. Im just wondering what the story is about?

@shogunboxe agreed the movies sucked balls but the comics have been greatly successful and both stories do interlink extremely well although the original films try to stay to their own characters they do still keep it so both fit together in a weird way.
even in predator 2 you can see something similar to an alien skull in the predators ship at the end
@cjpowerdcfc agree in all, as a child i enjoyed the comics and the VG of AVP was sick, but the movies terrible for both original franchises. Im only saying that in Ridley Scott´s storyline(original) nothing related with the piramid and all that sayd in avp movies happen. This movie is canon and will tell us what really happened, and how do they discovered aliens intead of that piramid storyline.

Can't help but get excited about it (Especially as Ridley Scott is involved) i probably should know better than to trust Fox. I came out of the Cinema after watching Alien 3 gutted! Fincher did his best under constant pressure and countless re-writes to make a decent sequel,but It could have been so much better! I got built up again for Ressurection..but leaving the cinema (gutted again) after watching that pile of shite, I knew i'd just witnessed the death of the Alien Franchise!

@smashingmartian i share in your opinion, but ive got to say that my view of alien 3 has softened over time, especially after how bad alien ressurection was, and how even worse the alien vs predator films were. but the "alien" name has been too badly damaged, so prometheus stands a better chance by only taking on the elements it wants (weyland yutani, space jockey) and ditching the rest, im quietly confident of seeing a xenomorph at some point though, possibly late on......

The mystery of this project is already beginning to swell in my psyche. I REALLY hope they don't fuck this up. The original Alien movie was Ridley's magnum opus and he is what has been missing from the franchise ever since 1979. I'm glad Fox required him to direct in order to greenlight the project. It shows they have at least some taste. This is really giving me a nerd boner!

@ryan070695 it was utter crap. it was made for teenagers who wanted to see some gladiator fights and for girls who wanted to see sweaty men with large muscles. other than that, a very weak story: uncompelling, dull, outright supid. the film can pass as entertainment, something you watch while washing the dishes, stopping to take a better look avery time there is a fight scene and then going back to the kitchen during the boring dialogues.

@reviewreviewer1 Blade Runner had no story. It was all over the place, too busy showing us sweeping visuals. But the characters were weak, the love story remained undeveloped, and the film ended up seeming very illogical and having no message. Fans started writing into it things that weren't there, but that's another matter. As for the other films you mentioned, there was nothing about them worthy of a director who is supposed to be some genius. Alien is his only great film.

@reviewreviewer1 well it's all more implied than actually shown. i personally couldn't care less for any of the characters nor did i find the whole thing very intelligent. the film would have been a lot better with fewer action scenes and a little less time spent showing us the world itself on the one hand, and stronger character building and better character interactions on the other. we are left watching a guy we don't care about shooting replicants we don't care about.

@reviewreviewer1 It is not developed beyond the superficial level. We learn very little about Deckard and we learn practically nothing about the other characters. They are there for the chase scenes only and to pose in spectacular visual compositions, but they do little more.

The main issue: what it's like to look human and find out you are a fake and someone else can pull the plug on your existence is also left unexplored. The problem with the film is that it hints at potentially interesting issues but it never explores them. All it delivers are sweeping visuals. The film fails on both the intellectual and emotional level.

I don't know, but there seems to be something in the air that they will be trying to mingle the space jockey in so as to make the plot run deeper, to baffle audiences with a plot showing how humans can be small against aliens etc, but mainstream TV scriptwriters don't seem to go well with innovation and boldness in movies... crappy movie alert!

@felixn65 Well the space jockey or Pilot species is really an integral part of the Alien folklore, they were responsible for the extreme spread of the xenomorph and eventually caused their own demise because of it so it will be quite interesting to see what Scott does with this story's history.
I have to say that while interesting in comic form or novels it has its problems and cheesy moments so he cant do a whole lot worse lol.

@vvrath I agree, while certain plot elements are necessary to maintain a certain feel to a film innovation is the key to success. For example, the first Alien was great, scary, and fun but also a bit corny too. It was unique. But when Cameron decided to do Aliens in 85 he knew he couldn't do the same formula so he stirred it up and added new interesting elements and made a sequel that surpassed the original, then we get three which went right back to the original formula and sucked, questions?

I'm pissed that Lindelof wrote the screenplay. Originally the film was a stand-alone prequel to the Alien series, free of any Predators or that bullshit...knowing Lindelof's reputation (Lost was an embarrassment that didn’t deserve the respect the fandom gave it) I have some doubts that because of that shitty writer, things could get fucked up.

seriously I dont know if i'm ready for this... I was really looking forward to the alien prequel except I didn't want it to explain everything, cause that's what made the movie scary, the suspence and really didn't know anything about the alien, and people fear the unknown. I just wanted pre resurection, pre avp alien back, I just want alien back. I want my 1979 and 1980s alien back, the thing that kept me up at night, the one horror monster that actualy gave me nightmares.

There is some back story how the Space Jockey were acting as Gods and Engineers, who created the Xenomorphs as biological weapons. How the Prometheus ship and it's crew gets entangled with this on the planetoid LV-426 is unknown at this point. I'm sure The Company are behind it 'again'.....

@BuddhaZenMind Not to be a stickler for details but the Pilot species did not create the xenomorphs, they did use them in a bio weapon manner but the species did develop on their own home-world. To learn more about this background history look up the Aliens comic/ novel series from earth hive to female war which covers the origin and spread of the species.
It will be interesting to see how Scott interprets the canon for this new film, hopefully for the better =)

You know aside from it being in the vein of Alien I'm excited that Ridley Scott is returning to sci fi after 29 years. Hopefully next will be The Forever War but we won't know for a while. I still cannot believe he is shooting this in 3D HD. I mean this guy loves 35mm. Hopefully he will take that to new ground. Also, I'd love to see him return to the fantasy genre. Why not take your entire Alien fanbase, get their hopes up with promises of two Alien prequels, after they were duped out of Alien: Colonial Marines, or Alien movie since 1997 and use it as a platform to promote an entirely different movie. The only thing we've had in the last ten years are shitty predator crossovers with Aliens that look like sock-puppets. Might as well just release a movie called Aliens vs. Dildos where all the aliens are mutilated by a barage of dicks. What a disgrace.

Cameron's Aliens is an outer space shoot em up basically , the most glaring flaw in Aliens , Resurrection , and the AVP crap is that the Creatures bleed a highly concentrated molecular acid. In Alien Ashe makes a small laser cut on the face hugger and a tiny amount of acid ate through 3 decks of the Nostromo. But Cameron blasts and runs over aliens spraying acid but it doesn't eat though anything not even people. I'll trust Ridley only when it comes to movie making of any genre.

SHould hopefully be better than alien 3 and Ressurection. It should be with the Orginal director back behind the camera. Im just wondering what the story is about?

@destroyer8604 I agree, what I think they should do with this movie, that is if its an Alien movie which it may not, it should ignore Alien3 and Alien Resurrection so Ripley, Newt, and Hicks don't die.

@shogunboxe agreed the movies sucked balls but the comics have been greatly successful and both stories do interlink extremely well although the original films try to stay to their own characters they do still keep it so both fit together in a weird way.
even in predator 2 you can see something similar to an alien skull in the predators ship at the end

@cjpowerdcfc agree in all, as a child i enjoyed the comics and the VG of AVP was sick, but the movies terrible for both original franchises. Im only saying that in Ridley Scott´s storyline(original) nothing related with the piramid and all that sayd in avp movies happen. This movie is canon and will tell us what really happened, and how do they discovered aliens intead of that piramid storyline.
