The song isnt about his father, Athea is a small village in ireland. He knew a girl there who thought if she left her hometown she will be free and hit stardom, as charlie says things dont happen that way.The saints you attacked line is apprentley based on breaking hearts the way she left. Thats what he told me anyway.
