  • This woman knows she can sing..By far the best female lead singer from Atlantic Starr so underrated, she reminds me of Chaka Khan with that voice!!

  • I loved Sharon Bryant when she was with AS. Even though, I felt that Barbara Weathers had a much purer, smoother, and soulful voice, Sharon still should have been a big star after leaving the band. And to offer my opinion regarding the ambivalence between who was better between the two: "circles" and "when love calls" were great songs, but Barbara sang on two of AS's biggest and most signature classics..."secret lovers" and "always."

  • A HUGE fan of Sharon's voice! I BOYCOTTED Atlantic Starr when she left. the other lead singers did not have that "umph" that Sharon posessed! Who else can sing "Circles" like Sharon? A great unsung talent on her own!

  • Interesting tidbit-- Sharon Bryant passed on recording over instrumental tracks that Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis gave her in 1985 which they in turn gave to Janet Jackson and in 1986 became the iconic album CONTROL.

  • @maatspear Nooooooo Aw man. Now u got me forever wondering. Jam and Lewis would've crank out some jams using Sharon Bryant's voice. Can't u just hear Sharon singing "Funny How Time Flies"!!!! Oh Well.

  • Sharon was the former female lead singer of Atlantic Starr. She hit #34 in Billboard, 10-14-89. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great weekend!

  • I <3 sharon bryant she was the truth... wondered what happened

  • damn she looks good

  • i love atlantic starr, but sharon bryant was the best lead singer they ever had. she was one of the most underrated singers ever, am i dreaming her vocals on that track are perfect.

  • i love atlantic starr, but sharon bryant was the best lead singer they ever had. she was one of the most underrated singers ever, am i dreaming her vocals on that track are perfect.

  • SHARON FREAKIN' BRYANT!!! OMG!!! She was my FAVORITE lead vocalist for the Starr. "Love Me Down", "When Love Calls" and TELL me she wasn't biting on Chaka's ankle with that lead vocal on "Circles". When I think I A.S. I think of HER tone. Bring back Sharon!!!

  • Omg..I love this song.....Ms.Bryant has a beautiful voice.

  • A definitive late 80s R&B jam......gone are the days when any female songstress sings about needing a lover with a steady hand......oh, God, I'm having a moment here!!!! Can I get an Amen from anyone? For months now I've been into old school and couldn't quite put my finger on what's different but I finally figured it out because of this vid!!!! SOPHISTICATION!!!!! The late 80s/ early 90s R&B was sophisticated in a way that you could respect a woman!!!! Let's get this back, please. Thanks.

  • This sounds like a LA & Babyface (LaFace) Production ?

  • Just loved this record when it came out. I was 24 and single and used to dance and sing along with it in my kitchen - until my neighbors saw me through the doorwall !!

But hey - sometimes you just gotta let go !!!

  • she should have released a second solo cd.

  • You go mommy !! Sharon Bryant = My mommy !!

  • @ninitweetie101 Yeah right & Madonna might be my biological mother.

  • who produced this track???

  • AWESOME SINGER: I LOVE SHARON BRYANT does anyone know what octave she sings?

  • was always so..............crazy bout this song i,was bout 12-14

  • loves this song the 80's were the golden yrs.!

  • She always dressed SOOOOO classy in her videos, and yet, still sexy!!!!!

  • @marcusrob02 Exactly women didn't have to get naked to sell records back then!

  • i love her she slams that note.

  • I'm sorry the more I listen to this this is just str8 up Chaka Khan!!!

  • I love, love this song!! It's still a jam after 21 years. I keep playing this video over and over again. I use to own the 12" version back in the day. She's beautiful, great voice and love her hair. She was the original singer with Atlantic Starr and gave us "Circles" and "When Love Calls". Love those songs too. Come back Sharon! :-)

  • Used to drive around at night in the car with the windows down and just blast this.

Sharon's voice and the beat just did me in. Still love this record.

  • Former female lead singer of Atlantic Starr. Sharon hit #2 soul, #34 pop in Billboard. God bless!

  • I love her voice. She was the voice of Atlantic Starr!

  • this is the video that I saw when I was dating my husband, it is so baddd.

  • wow i used to have this cd lol

  • I thought I was getting RickRoll'd for a second.

  • I couldn't remember the name of this song I just remembered that Sharon Bryant had a solo joint out. She's a great singer and she should've had more success.

  • I Sort Had A Crush On Her At 1 Time While She Was With Atlantic Starr-Classy Lady!

  • JUST LOVED THIS WOMEN...!!!!!

  • you can hear Chaka Khan in almost every female RnB singer from the late 80's.

  • @TheCmelmoneyman your right she influenced the female singers from the 80's her along with the late great Phyillis Hyman.

  • yes Phyllis was a huge influence during the 80's as well. Phyllis should have had international sucess..the opening belt alone is like the Chaka K. standard.

  • Agreed Moneyman the opening line is straight up Chaka.

  • @dal4018 Sharon was a Khan-Klone as was a slew of other &70's & 80s singers too numerous to mention!!! They didn't call her style" Chaka 101" or "Chaka U" or the "School of Chaka" for nothing!!! Chaka has influenced more singers than she's given credit for!!!

  • @TyjaluvsChaka Agreed Ty yes Chaka paved the way for all those female singers who got started in the 80's and Sharon Bryant was one of them.

  • @dal4018 Not just the screaming intro is Chaka but the phrasing, the walls, the attitude-The whole song is straight up cookie cutter Chaka!!! But I love it!!! I love anything with that sound!!! That's just one of many singing styles Chaka has created!!!

  • @TyjaluvsChaka right on Tyja! the wail intro-Chaka, the backing vocals (all by one voice)-Chaka, The concentration on phrasing instead of riffs/runs-Chaka, the precision of the harmonies on phrases throuought the verse-Chaka, taking it up an octave at the end -Chaka!

  • @TyjaluvsChaka again your right Ty she paved the way for all the female singers we heard in the 80's and 90's as well.

  • She should've stayed with Atlantic Star. This was the only song I ever heard from Sharon Bryant. Video Soul had her joint in rotation but it aint really strike a nerve, for real.

  • if memory serves me correctly she was SUPPOSE to do CONTROL lp INSTEAD of janet jackso what if that would have happend?? hmm welp folks hear is the best lead singer atlantic star had or WILL EVER have the lovely Sharon Bryant whats impressive about this is the YEAR it came out i thought it came out in THE LATE 90's just goes to show...... says uzipolo king of decatur

  • Thanks for posting this...now I wanna here the entire "Here I Am" recording!!!

  • I have a cassette from back in my high school days and I'm looking up all the jams from that cassette....this was one of them.....loooove this song.....one time I bought the album(cassette) this was from....got home only to find out that it was a Cheryl "pepsi" Riley cassette inside, I think.....so much for consignment shops!!!! Love Cheryl too.....Thanks for posting this great tune

  • love sharon

  • Wow...i met her about 4 years ago...she came to visit a church that i used to attend, and if im not mistaken, she lives out in White Plains, What a beautiful and warm person. Very humble...she pressed out because she was under the weather that day. Very beautiful person in and out...loved her w/Atlantic Starr and Solo...

  • Yes she does live in White Plains,New York. I know this because she is my mom, and she has 2 kids including me. She is not old!

  • i never said she was old Sweetie...my comment wasnt negative at all. i said she was a beautiful and warm person and humble. I was a big fan of your mom and became a bigger fan when i met her that time. if my comments were offensive then i apologize b/c i meant no harm...at all.

  • Your Mom is a wonderful singer. I don't think I have gone one week in the last 3 years without listening to "Circles". When saw the "let go" video today I could not believe that I remembered the entire song and every shoulder pump she did in the video when I havent seen this video since 1990.

  • @ninitweetie101 How is your mom? We were all huge fans of hers and still are. we are probably around the same age. Do you have the "Voice" your mom has?

  • marcusrob02 , I respect your opinion but I dont agree with it. I think Sharon had a very soulful voice and only R&B radio stations play it, when she left she was replace with a voice that had more of a pop appeal, with that the group changed up their sound and style that we come to love. They started singing only slow, love pop ballads all the time instead of songs like "Circles", etc. and it worked for them. But Sharon was the woman; no one had a voice like that!

  • I honestly couldn't tell a distinct difference in Barbara and Sharon's voices. They both had Pop/Soulful voices.....and recorded songs for the group that had pop/soulful sounds, as "Circles" coulda easily crossed over if there was a video for it I believe.

  • @marcusrob02 Sharon came straight from the school of Chaka Khan with her strong vocal intro's.

  • Well...not "easily"...lol..but moreso I feel. I like both Weathers and Bryant as well, but I honestly, in my heart of hearts, couldn't distinguish any more or less soul from either one....nor vocal ability overall. I've always viewed both as mirror equals, in all honesty lol.

  • They were both good but don't you think Sharon sounds a little like Angela Winbush? I think so. I will say that they did a great job of finding someone with a similar vocal quality...all up until the last girl. Just a thought.

  • @lana1350 I agree. Sharon has a very distinct, more soulful, smoky voice. Very sexy. Love Barbara too but Sharon had a little "edginess" in her singing which I liked.

  • @lana1350 Sharon's voice was way more soulful than Barbara's, tho Barbara had a good voice. Its always bugs me out when I hear "When Love Calls" vs. "Secret Lovers." Such a drastic change for us 80's REAL R&B heads. And I don't believe "Circles" would've crossed over it there was a music video because crossing over wasn't so easily done back in the day.

  • I was the biggest Atlantic Star fan back in the days, I love Sharon Bryant also. I knew every song on their albums and can sing it word for word. LOL. I bought all of their albums and CD and still have the cassette tapes with most of their songs. I couldnt get enough of them back in the days. Atlantic Star did have a bunch of hits after Sharon left but there is only one Sharon. Something was missing after she left, but the group crossed over on the pop charts many times after she left.

  • I think the main reason they crossed over when Sharon left was due to the fact that she left around the time Atlantic Starr had not yet embraced the age of music videos, since they didn't start putting out music clips until around 1985 with their As the Band Turns LP (I COULD be wrong though, so if I am, feel free to correct me) lol

  • They had a video for Yours Forever if I'm not mistaken. The year was 1983 or 84

  • Yes it's a very interesting video!

  • Powerhouse voice....the music industry is seriously lacking talent like hers these days.... I'd love to hear Sharon pop up and make a guest appearance on someone's CD just to hear her sing again..

  • very very good , thank you

  • I love Sharon Bryant and am sad that I cannot find her music in a cd. Here I Am is still one of my favorite songs.

  • I used to think she was so cute........."Love Me Down" is one of my top two songs of all time. My college roomate says I played it to death

  • actually, barbara weathers was a good replacement for the smaller group at the time. 'as the band turns' & 'all in the name of love' were the most successful albums. so, while I love sharon bryant being in the group, i won't know barbara weathers. btw, i think bryant was pregnant when she put this album out.

  • Does n e body have her singing the cover Fooish Heart? been looking...no disrespect Mr.Perry...but been looking..

  • Im looking for it online too. I have the cassette :)

  • I have been looking for that video also. I remember seeing it on "Video Soul" in 1987. Denzel Washing had a cameo. I used to have such a schoolboy crush on Sharon. She wan't a Sally Richardson/Halle Berry "perfect face cutie", but something about her was so attractive. I remember that I wanted my wife to have a face like that. Don't ask why LOL

  • dxwallace...that video was actually...suppose to be Denzel's Pre- Mainstream....appearence after a brief touch with Hollywood in the 80's such as Carbon Copy...with George Segal(Dead beat Dad in Look who's Talking) The Wilma Rudolph Story and T.V series St.Elsewhere..sorry DieHard Denzel fan...well before(Hollywood mainstream) got him and type cast him in only serious roles and no available comedies...(only partial-to his credit comedy to his "The Mighty Quinn" with Robert Townsend...)

  • the sound on this video is off, please somebody post a better version of this song, like a CD or LP version. Too good a song not to hear it with the best sound!! thanks being 17 y.o. Music has changed for the worst, it is sad to admit that

  • what's Sharon Bryant doing now? Have not heard a peep in 20 years!

  • i bought the vinyl when it came out.. man, i love this woman's voice.

  • I remember buying a cd player for the 1st time then buying this cd. This was my 1st cd!!

And my 1st download to my mp3 was Syreeta's Universal Sound of the World.

  • I love this song. I feel just like a child when i hear sharon sing this classic hit...i truly can't let go of how good a jam this was ....this is MUSIC....

  • Pretty Simple Vid But Not Much Needed When The Song Is This GOOOD. I Forgot About This Jam, Thanks For Sharing. ;D

  • This a sangin broad right here, for real. They don't make em like that no more.

  • Back in the day why music was real, artist put their heart into a song instead now all they do is show a little sex and call it music.

  • I agree. The chick they got to fill her spot didn't have anything on Sharon. Actually, Atlantic Star never made another record I liked after Sharon left them.

  • I can't believe this song is 20 years old... or that I was 10 years old singing this like I was grown and had some idea of what the song expressed, LOL. I still love it to this day. Love you, Ms. Sharon! and thank you, MarcusRob

  • LOL I know, right? You sound like your my age then because about ten or so and I was doing the same thing! I was just a whippersnapper but I KNEW this was good music...

  • I love this woman..her voice was perfect...I remember running to the tv to watch her videos....

  • this was the shit in high school

  • Rufus does Sharon Bryant remind you of anyone from the past among great female singers?

  • Thanks rufus can't go wrong with either of these talented women in my opinion.

  • Oh my gosh! I have not heard this song since 1990! I was seven years old at the time!

  • OMG and I thought she was tremendous in Atlantic Starr but this song...OMG!!! What a voice...period

  • LIKE THIS...NICE VOICE

  • Gin you think she was better than Barbara Weathers who sung on Secret Lovers,Always,Cool,Calm&Collected?

  • She sang lead on Slip Away, Circles, and Am I Dreamin, she get's a yes in my book because she broke the mold and paved the way for Barbara.

  • I still love this joint.

  • I have the Cassette.

  • For the first few seconds I thought I was RicRolled!

  • Huh? LOL..what you mean "ricrolled"..what's that?

  • I didn't think so, but the percussion at the opening seems to be the same type, which was what brought it to mind.

  • You rock! Thanks for finding this old forgotten favorite from way back...I love this song!

  • Sharon Bryant's voice is so awesome. The best female vocalist they ever had. So soulful,so rich, so intense. Her voice on this song as well other songs such as When Love Calls,Circles, Touch A 4 Leaf Clover,Am I Dreaming,Love Me Down and her other solo hit Foolish Heart..Thanks for remembering this awesome vocalist...

  • thanks for the song. keep the link/embed code so i can post at will. peace

  • Sharon has always had the voice, I love all the cutz she did when she was with Atlantic Starr, and she sounds great alone too! The one makes me rcok!

  • no she isn't married to timmy allen from the group 'Change',she married 'Rick Gallwey' from the group 'Change'

  • @namean900 Wonder are they still married?

  • great

  • she is married to timmy allen from the group change

  • One of the greatest voices of all time! I absolutely love Sharon Bryant

  • I had a crush on her...she looked alot like the chick from General hospital who played on coming To America...

  • I remember this track from the summer of '89. You don't hear this any more. Great song. Makes me feel like a kid again.

  • Don't it? I still rock the 12" every now and again when I come across it.

  • Sharon is still doing her thang... she has served as Music Producer and Songwriter for so many television shows it's unreal. My favorite was the PBS children's show "Between The Lions". I was a first grade teacher and let my students watch an episode of the show one day when it was raining and we couldn't have recess outside... coming to find out, there she was, singing with a group of sistas on the show. Even saw her name in the credits!

  • Maybe I'm crazy or have poor skills in looking at people's facial features...but I PROMISE that it seems like Sharon Bryant and Barbara Weathers look almost identical in their eyes and forehead. Both are beautiful but I honestly think they're relatives, even if they don't know it. They look similar (facially) to me. I honestly think that.

  • Great song,Great singer-a true daughter of Chaka!

  • i dont know where folks come off saying sharon has a nasty attitude I know her personally I have for over 25 yrs and i was at her wedding. she is one of the nicest people arround! she is sweet, giving caring and a real talent, as his her ex hubby who is also a friend of mine. folks should NOT speak of what they dont know..

  • You are so right, when they don't know what they are talking about they make thing up. Like the one preson that stated Renee Diggs of the earlier group Starpoint died from Cancer and it was from MS.

  • She is a wonderful singer, loved her songs with Atlantic Starr and her two solo hits. This song was my song in early adolescence when I knew nothing about what letting go meant.

  • She was probaly a better singer than Barbara Weathers but didn't have Barb's looks.

  • Barbara was a great singer! She can go into the whistle register (heard on "Our Love Runs Deep"). Both singers are great.

  • In 1984,, she left Atlantic Star thinking she was to large to be in a group. Instead of blowing up, she fell on her ass. Where is she now?

  • I give up. Where is she?

Where are most of the talented artist from back in the day? Most are burt out from being taken advantage of by the big wiggs in the industry.

  • Amen!

  • She is still singing ..she did some background on Luther's last album but I dont know if she has been active since!

  • She's on my myspace page (I know you asked the "where is she now" out of sarcasm, but still..thought I'd provide you with an answer LOL). But still, even if she had an ego problem, you can't deny that 1.) her vocals and talent is far above anything mainstream can attempt to muster up today and 2.) she (like so many...hundreds...of other R&B/soul artists) were severely taken advantage of, and mistreated every which way possible

  • she is awesomely talented but her personality is messed up!

  • how do u know that?

  • all i am saying is personal experience and industry knowledge!

  • Well, she's on my myspace page and sometimes when I log on, she has lot of negative status messages, such as "bullshit of the business continuing throughout" and stuff like that, so I believe you. LOL. She may indeed be a bit bitter, considering how the business railroads real talent away from opportunities they worked hard for. Then again, I don't know the lady personally, so I can't speak to much. How long have you known her?

  • i believe you.

  • They only showed this song one time on video soul. I was hooked ever since. I brought this album twice and thought she was absolutely awesome.

Buy this CD and see. She can really blow!!!!

  • I agree w/you 100%.

I brought this too back in the day. I love her voice.

  • I love me some Sharon Bryant. Atlantic Starr was good with Barbara Weathers (Always, Secret Lovers, etc) but Sharon's voice is so beautiful. She was so slept on.

  • OH MY GOSH! I thought I'd never see this video again! Thank you so much! I still have this cassette!

  • SHARON YOU ROCK!!!

  • I second that Thank You! this music takes me way back!!!!!!!!!!! REAL MUSIC not that gargabe today.

  • Thanks for posting this song! I use to love this song! I hate it was slept on because it was a cut.

  • Great song with fire and funk. Sharon rocks with the same fire and finasse as with Atlantic Starr. Great singer !!

  • This was a very under rated song from 1989. Atlantic Starr has always been one of my favorite groups, and it's mostly because of Sharon's phenominal vocal abilities.

  • Thanks for posting. One of my favorites from that time.

  • This is such a typical 80s song. Corny! However Sharon was a very talented artist I just wish some more unique producers could've given her some tracks to work with. Somebody like Stevie Wonder could've made it happen for her.

  • 80s music is FAR better than most genres in my opinion. I'd EASILY (in my SLEEP) take 80s Pop and R&B over just about anything today on radio, or in the biz today at all. The music and sound was just.....BETTER

  • I THINK THE SOUL MUSIC FROM 1970-1978 IS BETTER THAN MOST OF THE 1980s STUFF. IN THE 70s THEY HAD LIVE MUSIC AND NOT THOSE ANNOYING KEYBOARDS THAT EVERYBODY OVER USED IN THE 1980s. THE 70s was so much more soulful while the 80s sounded more industry driven. Check out Stevie Wonder's and Marvin Gaye's albums from 1971-1977. CLASSIC STUFF!

  • I don't know..that's just my opinion, cause the keyboards and electronic instrumentation (to me) made me actually stay awake and enjoy urban music. 70s soul and R&B (although great) bored me to death, and always felt like it was missing a big "umph" to really get me to dig the elements of the songs. I have to be in a mood to listen to Marvin's 70s music or Stevie's. I'd easily prefer Howard Hewett's "Strange Relationship" over most 70s soul songs..that tells you my brand of R&B I like.

  • This may be typical 80s, but it still outshines the majority of the crap that is out now!

  • McElroy and Foster produced this track with en vogue on the back up. the track was tight when it was released and is still tight even after all these years. i am a big fan of sharon bryant because she is very talented and beautiful. she has the whistle range as well, check out her cd. she made atlantic star work. got tired of the b.s. and left. barbara was temporary, she also made atlantic star work.

  • I am remember this being first single after leaving Atlantic Starr. Too bad she didn't stay with them for a while longer.

  • I still have this on cassette-lol! I never knew she had a video for this song! I was an 18 year old high school senior at the time this song was released. Thanks for posting! Great song and tremendous voice! Love ya Sharon!

  • I love this song. Power 99 FM used to play this and "Foolish Hearts" a lot. I was 12 when this came out in '89.

  • THIS WAS THE JAM!!..THANX FOR POSTIN!

  • I love this song. Picked her album in a local record shop. I mean cassette. This album in my opinion is great. Thank you Sharon Bryant for making timeless music. Great production. Not the crap you hear on the radio today

  • Awesome talent. I loved this song and I love her. Not to take anything from Barbara Weathers, but there's only one Sharon Bryant with Atlantic Starr. She is the genuine article.

  • Atlantic Starr was fortunate to have both Sharon Bryant and Barbara Weathers as lead sings, because they both have very strong and distinctive voices.

  • I'm crying at this point! The way I used to sing this in front of my mirror with a hairbrush microphone, while simutaneously doing the snake!I love Sharon so much! She died from cancer not to long ago,and my feelings are very hurt.I will always love her!

  • No, I assure you she's very much alive. She's on my Myspace page as I speak....check it out, and just type her name in. Check it out ASAP, and send her a comment..she's doing well.

  • No i know her know now and she deffinetly is not dead

  • She is alive and last sang background on Rachelle Ferrelle and Luther Vandross cd's...I think you are thinking of Renee Diggs of Starpoint whom died of ovarian cancer!

  • Renee Diggs died from MS.

  • I think she also did some background work for Mar J. Blige, as well.

  • I love this song! Thanks for posting this great tune. It peaked at #25 in the Hot 100.

  • MARRRCUSSSSSSSSSSS!! YOU the man ... I LOVED THIS song back in the DAY !!!

How does someone so young find such treasure .. I Thank you for posting it ...

  • Thanks! I just love...no.....LOVE the R&B tunes of the 1980s, ESPECIALLY the ones that appear to have been forgotten and rarely receive any airplay anymore.

  • fantastic. I love this stuff too. Great find!
