  • TROPPO PRESTO DIMENTICATA........MOLTO BRAVA!

  • I saw her in concert in London in 1970. She was a "stand-in" for Caballé. My God ,what a stand-in ! She brought the house down. Four years later at 31 years of age at Covent Garden she was begining to show the sad signs of wear. She had taken on too much too young. Mind you she was still very exciting. So sad she didn't have time to turn into a true great.

  • brava Elena. Ci manchi

  • bravissima, cara!

  • Wonderful... a shooting star...

  • Un'ottima cantante sottovalutata dal disco. Davvero un peccato..

  • I cannot understand why her "Suicidio" has disappeared from YT.

  • One of the voices that will be never forgotten. NEVER!!

    Gracias, Onegin65 :)

  • I don't think it is a question of singing Forza at such a young age. I think Ponselle was about this age. If you read about the careers of the divas of old, e. g. Raisa, you would be surprised at the roles they sang very young, in alternation, many times a week. It depends on the security of the technique and constant study with good teachers and supportive conductors and coaches. Unfortunately we lost a great talent for some stupid oversight. She sings so carefully and well here.

  • @ploplisphilin

It is true that some singers start young but sing for many years. But all I know are from years ago. I guess that the difference is their schedule. Yeah, Raisa sang several roles at a place, but she had enough time to rest during the travel between two places. And Ponselle stayede in one place and had more time to study. However, Souliotis travelled too much. She traveled every month, including flying to South America, instead of on a ship. How could she study or rest?

  • I think a lot of people have made many comments about her and her singing. She is ONLY 23 years old here, so I think she is amazing. It was a voice of power and agility, sadly as a lot of people commented she sang the wrong things too quickly. She didnt say no, to Norma, Abigaille and as you see this Forza. For anyone to undertake these roles you need experience and maturity in the voice, the voice needs to settle into them. Truly a great artist but also a great example of when not to sing.

  • Such a nice and great person besides her extraordinary singing, but she lost it...

  • Great voice! Thanks!

    M.

  • Did she sing at the MET and La Scala?

Gracias

  • Singing is all about confidence. This great soprano lost it...and her voice. I am sure that many people were so shocked at her great singing, that they simply told her that she couldn't sing like that...and soon enough, she couldn't. A great pity. She was one of the greats.

  • Can you tell me what you think is wrong with this performance and her voice?

  • Actually, she lost her voice from singing the role of Abigaille in Verdi's Nabucco too early in her career. The high tessitura damaged her still maturing voice

  • You are probably right...but it is too late now to ever know the real story. At least we have some wonderful recordings to remember her by.

  • Listen to Leontyne Price in this aria. Price was the best Leonora.

  • She didn't conquer Mozart because she never had a voice for that style.

  • To make opera rock you need a touch of dirt. Souliotis rocks! Great stuff! Thanks

  • Bravooo! Bravo! Wish you were here again! Thank you for the music!

  • Suliotis at her best is unbeatable. Who cares how long she had or why. I'm grateful that she ripped herself up in order to leave us her exciting legacy. Viva La Suliotis!

  • She was great, fearless, exciting and wild...

  • Souliotis was an exciting performer. It seemed pretty clear when she was still young that her voice was unlikely to survive the punishing roles she undertook.

She recorded several operas and a recital for London/Decca. Some still available on CD. In the l990s she recorded Suor Angelica w/ Mirella Freni. She sounded fine.

There are also several live performances available. Sound is generally not too good tho.

    Ts 4 posting, Onegin.

  • I was a teenager when "La Suliotis" came to Mexico City, I heard her live in Bellas Artes and then she had dinner with my family at my home... she sang a bit for us and with us all, I fell in love with her voice, thankyou so much for this post. I have no recordings of her and there such few avail. Thankyou again.

  • A Great singer despite of all mistakes she did in the choice of her roles .she was too young to leave the stage of opera ....too young really ..........

  • She was really great. Her pianissimo on 4:06 was quite strange.

  • not too wisely but too well. she studied on mt pelion with the centaurs and hunted like achilles and orpheus with the brave. this is a great and intriguing posting. onegin65 is a star

  • Not a waste of talent. It was her time to go .

  • Grande!!!

  • Also, a very strange technique (or lack of it).

  • Another example of too much too soon. I first heard of her when she was booed (I think) at a performance of Norma and Callas was in the audience applauding her. She was just to young to be doing Norma and she paid the price. However, it was she who chose the roles to sing and how to sing them.

  • thanks for posting this video,..she was one of a kind...

  • Elena truly rocks!!! What a waste of such tremendous talent.

  • What a find. I've heard som nuch of Souliotis but to finally get to see her is wonderful.

    Thank you for posting this.

  • Wow, I never knew there was footage of Souliotis. This is amazing. Such a great singer. Thank you.

  • My god! To finaly see souliotis on stage, after hearing her recordings for so long - where did you find this? Is there a full video of La forza with her?

  • Good voice. The vibrato is a bit odd sometimes, but I really like her sound. Very good singing.
