@SohnVids Are you sure you mean 400D? The G2 is great fun to use - I've been using this cam for one year now and I love it - but if you really want to spend your money on a cam, you should compare the G2 to the Canon 500D.

Hi, Does the G2 have a Indefinite Bulb mode? Does the the shutter stays open as long as you hold the button down? Idk what it's called when it's not a limited amount of time the shutter can stay open...

@username11160 Yes you can but its a 2.5 jack so you mihgt need an adapter 2.5 to 3.5 like it did.

@skrupnik If you really want to use it for videos only than get the FZ 38. Cheaper, more manuell controll on video mode and videos @ 720p like the G2.

@javyuma It isn't a DSLR because it doesn't have a reflex mirror passing the light coming through the lens to an optical viewfinder. This is what defines a DSLR, not the ability to change lenses. Technically they're Compact System Cameras, but not many people know that term yet.

Video quality i would go for NEX.

Picture quality also NEX.

I think this one is a lot cheaper than the NEX.

I wouldnt know the ptice for Panasonic;s lenses but i would bet that they are cheaper.

The good thing about the NEX is that the lens is stabilized. Which is good for video recording.

Sony actually known for putting the Steady Shot in body but this time the camera was way too small to include that so its in the lens now.

I say, put your money in sony, im glad i did =)

@Mirtzs It can record up to 29 mins 59 secs. No still cameras record for longer because they'd be classified as video cameras which attract higher import duties.

I am currently using a "Point n Shoot" camera but looking into moving more towards a DSLR type camera so I can create more creative photos and more professional shots. I am looking into this camera as a place to start, would anybody be able to recommend if this is a wise choice or suggest a better alternative. Bearing in mind the price of the G2 is in the upper bracket of my budget.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

@Shamurocksuk1 There's no straight answer for everyone. It depends on so many things - what you shoot, what lenses you might want in future, what quality level and build quality you require, and personal tastes. The G2 is a good step up from a compact. Small, light, hi-tech, reasonable results. But it s a bit plasticky for some, image quality can be bettered with many DSLRs, and lens choice is a bit limited (unless you buy an adaptor).

@Shamurocksuk1 The G2 is fantastic! Since I've purchased it I don't want to miss the touchscreen. But before I had four cameras and I think if you want to learn about photography you'd be better off with a "real" DSLR. Search on YT for entry models and you'll find your cam.

@Shamurocksuk1 There are very advanced point and shoot cameras ! I just got a Samsung TL350 and is simply amazing, I have used many DSLR's and this little camera puts down many to shame..... Check out the reviews and test in case you like and want to remain with a point and shoot.....

Digital photography has represented a paradigm shift in the photography field so we need to come up with new terms to describe the equipment. No, the G2 isn't a DSLR. Many are referring to these cameras as EVILs -- Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens. Works for me. Whatever you call them, they are fantastic. My Olympus E-PL1 is one of the best cameras I've used. My Canon 40D is getting mighty lonely since I got the E-PL1.

This camera produces some of the most colorful images I have ever seen.The swiveling  LCD screen for video recording is a nice touch. Some of the higher resolution modes seem fuzzy.

I just bought this cam one week ago - I love it! I never shot a photograph on ISO 6400, so with all cameras I used before noise was never an issue. When Panasonic released the G2 I thought the touchscreen would just be a gadget - but it makes sense. Great camera!
