Well if I were to buy one CD of Metallica's and upload it online the sound quality is going to be far superior to that of a bootleg album from say a live show. It's certainly going to be of better sound quality than from something in the 80s or early 90s. Point is Lars is right about Napster, however it does make people feel sour since he's had his success. If it was some unknown band they may not complain since they haven't had exposure.
the bottom line is they work their asses off and dedicate their lives to making music for the fans to listen to and be influenced by the least you could do is spend 20 bucks and buy the damn thing
@thedanking4201 the bottom lline is they r fukn millionaires and their same fans who download their music buy their t-shirts, concert tickets, and prolly have bought an album or two. they should b happy they have fans. Bitching about money and ppl listening to ur music isnt very metal, little bitches
i think you shold be searched for video cameras and recorders and things of that nature, i think only cameras for pictures should be allowed in concerts to eliminate bootlegging, unless an exception is made for film crews or fans at the meet and greets.
my biggest issue is that "tape sharing" is what made them a popular band when they were nothing... if their cassettes tapes were not copied and passed all around the SoCal music scene they would have sat in obscurity.
Small bands need exposure. And just because file-sharing is digital exposure rather than "analog and plastic" does not make it evil. Yes.. people should buy it if they like it.
Not really. Metallica don't mind people getting free live recordings, even to this day. You can Download their earlier live shows for free off one of their sites.
kirk kind of predicted the future here...even though 8 years after this interview they tried to stop it, they realised its impossible...bootlegging, downloading, whatever, you cant stop it, so embrace it!
true lars was the main guy, but he had the backing of all the band. i remember seeing at least one interview with kirk saying he was backing lars all the way
I miss Martha Quinn.

Why do they even care? Their one of the biggest metal bands out there! It doesn't hurt them as near as much as it does indie bands just starting out!

Is Lars being hypocritical here?

@parkerman6 It was not LARS alone. It was Lars who was the spokeman. Behind him, were hundreds of other musicians.
