@ianbean1 I believe the purpose of this video was to show his top moments but also show his demeanor. Triumphs do not define you, but the way you bounce back from a collapse does.
I don't know why people get down on Mickelson, he's not chasing Nicklaus like Woods is doing, he's playing "his game"; and still he re-news his tour card every year. What's wrong with earning a living and enjoying what you're doing?
The thing about Phil is he has an unbridled joy when he plays, good, bad or ugly. He also has the understanding that he's lucky to be doing something he loves and he gives back to his community, golf and the fans. That is what makes him great. May he enjoy and long successful career adding to a legacy already rich with great moments.
phil will be forever one of the greatest players this game will ever see, he is legitimate, he is creative, and he goes for the shots, if he didn't go for the shots, no wayy would he be the player he is known to be today. 2010 masters will be one of the greatest performances i will ever see, 2 eagles in a row and a few inches away from another.
Phil Mickelson we love you, we are rooting for you every week. you deserve to be the face of golf.

See, Phil understands that there are certain shots you have to try. Lie there is a tree in the way, bounce it off the other tree and off the one in the way onto the green. What can someone really say if you miss?
They need to update this to show his shot at this year's (2010) master's. 200 something yards. Off the pine straw. Through a narrow opening between two trees. Over water to a tight pin. And he nails it to within feet. One of the greatest shots I've ever. seen.
@prrttjg it was a very nice shot but not that hard though it was more or less just a stock 6 iron, the condition look pretty tough but in reality it doesnt bother phil wether he hits it off a good pine straw lie through a one yard gap....
That had to be a killer, in '06. When I was competing (lower level, obviously, but still--at a plus-2 level), I know that feeling of having done everything to get yourself to that point, and then something happens on the last hole or two, and you have that feeling of how long it's going to take you to get back to that point again. To get that in a major, against that level of competition, has got to be just devastating.....
...I hope some old pro took him aside and reminded him how many times Nicklaus finished second. If you're that good, inevitably there are going to be times when you just barely miss, and you can't let it kill you. If you're around the lead more, of course you're going to have more disappointments. Goes with the territory. You have to want the territory.
Boy, me too. I'd love to go back and make about five different decisions on specific shots for him, but by and large, the guy plays like a kid. He gets it. He knows he plays a game for a living, and he loves it. How often do you see that in pro sports?
Mechanically, one thing I'd pay him $5 to change right now is just a bit of steepness in his downswing (you can see it in the Swing Visions on YT). I really do think it's caused him some inconsistency on weeks when his timing's not on.
I am a Tiger fan, so it pains me to say this. but this video does not do Phil justice. "Top Golf moments" should have a single collapse, let alone rank one at number 2. Phil has so many hole outs, more of those should have been in, not missed shots. Honestly!
No problem being a Tiger fan and a Phil fan. I'd rather have dinner with Phil, but have always been a huge admirer of Tiger's game (though not of him as a person, even before all the recent sluttism). I don't know who these talking heads are, insisting that you have to pick one or the other.
The thing is not the shot he hit , cause everybody can hit a wedge inside 3 meters. The thing is that he was able to do it at that moment and win his first major. I don't think you would do it then.
that's true what jim nantz said '04 masters was one of the greatest in history. i was so glad to see phil finally grab a major, and especially at augusta, because the masters is my favorite tournament. i love phil's reaction after the jump when he takes his hat off he breathes a big sigh, almost like the monkey was literally off his back.
i hit my irons and 3 wood beautifuly but the driver i cant stop slicing it i really need to know how to sort it out because its wrecking my golf i hit a 3 wood off the tee now but im not slicing that so how come i am my driver??
If you are left handed, put your right foot 2 inches forward to close your stance at address, right handed, your left foot. Also, try gripping the driver so the face is less open, but not both together, or you will hook. If this doesn't work, you may need a different driver.
Stick with your 3-wood. The goal is to keep the ball in play even at the expense of shorter distance. Save the driver for the range. If you improve, slowly integrate the driver back into your game.
well the driver is a diferent swing that 2 woods and irons its a longer flatter plan if you try to hit your driver like an iron it will cause a slice so try to flatten out your swing plane from outside it inside rather than inside out
Anyone who is a fan of golf remembers where they were when Phil did this. I watched it at my parents until the 15th hole and I had to go home. I stayed on the phone with my ex gf...she made the call and I will never forget it.
Noone gives Phils golf teacher any credit....Rex Cole, yes Rex Cole was Phils teacher, and now Rex Cole is my teacher, here in San Diego California at Cottonwood Golf Club at Rancho San Diego.
i never liked phil but now i do because he plays golf his way and enjoys it and thats wat matters i love the way his caddy was so emotional for phil when he won it was so cool
I am a great fan of Phil. Sometimes it's really distressful to see him fail. Phil's got great skills, however he needs to build up a strong mind and game strategies. Also a lot of luck.
Phil's debacle overshadowed Monty's, which I argue was worse. He was in the middle of the 72nd fairway and doubled the final hole to miss a playoff by one.
That flop shot is ridiculous, the guy's got crazy skill.... period. Holy shit that was good. US open was halirios. Ben Hogan has offcially rolled over in his grave...classic.
Thanks for these, eh? I'm still pissed over the 2006 US, but the 2005 PGA was great. The 2004 Masters is my #3 favourite sporting moment ever, behind the 1972 Summit Series and the 2003 Masters.
that's the only time that I've watched a golf event and felt so compelled to cry tears of joy along with him. He's a terrific guy and an unreal player. That was the most excited I've ever been, and will ever be, regarding a golf tourney

Sportswriters. Hmmph. (I used to be one.)
It's "Little did we know that 2006 LAY ahead." (Past tense of "lie," unrelated to transitive verb "lay." Trust me. These guys should know this.)
And: "Phil would take exception to that" (not "take objection").
Oy. You used to have to know how to speak and write English for these jobs.
