Very touching. Even though this movie was marketed as a parody of sorts, the ideas you write about can be taken seriously. When I saw this movie with my husband we were touched by the Smiths' search for love. And it is true this search to recapture their love can be seen as a fight against evil--for isn't it the very task of the devil to destroy love in this world, especially in marriages. Very interesting perspective.
