  • I can relate to this effect with friends and family, whenever I've attempted to loose as little as 5 pounds my family all tell me to eat more, and one of my best friends always tries to get me to eat way more than I need. However, I'm willing to compromise a bit with this. I was vegan for 5 years (and had to stop while traveling abroad), and then I realized that even though I was trying to do the right thing, it was severely restricting me freedoms and social life to an unhealthy degree.

I can go from 140lbs to 160lbs in a month! and it use to be so easy for me to lose weight , i just go one week without eating, and lose like ten pounds..but this time,im at my high peak again,the highest that ive ever been to.ive been trying to lose the weight,and i still am!.but it seems like i will be like this for the rest of my life!

  • My roommate is absolutely jealous that I'm losing weight, she gained the freshman 15 and I guess it bothers her that I'm so concerned about my weight. I love her to death, and I know she cares about me eating but I feel like most of her concern comes from her jealousy.

  • i agree!my ex best friend is a 12/14 an i was a size 6/8, she used to go on at me about how sick and ill i looked and urged me to gain weight, i started getting bigger and then i was also a size 12, she kept saying how good i looked and got angry when i would complain and then would hit the gym herself, her n my cousin both use to tell me i dnt need to loose weight but while going threw my old pic i seen how much better i looked! wish me luck people im tryin to go back to my orignial weight

  • I’ve been saying this for years about the food industry! I think this is a great video to share with those who are still not understanding! I have lost 30ibs just by eating raw and i was able to feeling the addiction subside like a drug abuser getting clean.

  • Thanks for this video, I couldn't agree with you more. I'm eating 100% raw with minimal or no intake of fat (lipids are in fruit and veg up to 5%) and lost 2lbs in 2 weeks.

    I remember as a little girl going crazy every time I see the mcdonald's sign.  I used to crave big-macs insanely.. Haven't been to a fast food place for nearly a year now and I see them as the ultimate 'junk' How could they do that to people just to make profit? Doesn't make any sense at all and it saddens me..

  • Loosing or gaining weight has a lot more to do about psychology than which physical components are in the food. So the part about family and friends - very important. Good for you that you do what you want now!! Read about breatharians, and see how they loose and gain weight without eating at all.

  • Best diet...don't even tell nobody about your lifestyle change (diet), I didn't say nothing people thought I had a 2nd job but I was at the gym. You might even have to hang out with your friends/family less until you're in 100% control of your choices.

  • My family never tries to support me when i try to be healthy and i am so freaking weak when it comes to food. Me and my mom work together at lunch the doctor ordered pizza but i brought my own grilled chicken and tomato and cucumber salad. One of the ladies asked if i was having pizza(I LOVE pizza its like crack to me)and i was like "nope" my mom heard and she was like she's trying to be good, but shell end up having pizza later I was just like thanks mom!   • I know exactly what your talking about and the food industry, yes dirty birdies. Several years ago after my last child was born I got down to 132 lbs and everyone in my family decided to start harassing me, making hurtful comments to me and I ended up gaining the weight back, then all of a sudden they loved me again, well I am on that journey again to lose this weight and this time, they can kiss grits. Oh and my mom WAS constantly doing that and I had to set her straight.

  • Ha ha my husbands family has this saying "Fat and good looking" or "thin and poor"... When my husband lost 40 plus pounds, they kept after him saying he looked too skinny... Of course they are both obese and both of them have heart disease and both have had major heart surgeries...

  • I actually had a theory about this for years. I once told it to my mother, but she brushed it off. Not only is the food industry profiting from us being fat, but so does the diet and fitness industry. Gym memberships go up every year and more and more fatter people try to lose weight. Workout dvds and equipment are being bought constantly, as are diet products, like pills, food, and drinks. All of these industries want us fat because it means money in their wallets. Amazing post.

  • that is true...the food industry does want us fat, but it's for us to make the choice to say 'no thanks', and stick to our guns. I'm skinny, but I know what you are saying is true. I also have dealt with food addiction before. especially snickers...I use to be so addicted, but after my taste buns changed through eating a lot of fruits and veggies, I began to not like it anymore.

  • I have experienced diet sabotage no doubt, many times. Though folks usually mean well. As you said, they want to keep you happy etc. They know food affects your emotions & you enjoy it too much. I am definitely on guard about that right now. But ultimately I do think the most of it the bad intent does come from the food industry. Too many chemicals, toxins, etc then the studies that intentionally manipulate human behavior to eat more .. Indeed we must be on guard.

  • When i chose to be a amature bodybuilder my friends and family always critisized the way i ate. At family dinners i always packed my lean meats and veggies in a container, and they always tried to tempt me with thier foods and deserts. But in the end you are the one that puts the food in your mouth, and if you want to get in shape bad enough you need to learn to say no.

  • I agree all the way. Too many times a friend has said that I look better this way, I am happier etc etc. but the truth is like you told it. Also, my best friend admitted it: she can't stand the idea me being in better condition than her. And she also blames me if I don't want fastfood. But at least she is honest about it.

    She's right. Read ingredient labels, & you'll be surprised at what's in your food:

    1) Some lunchmeat, hot dogs and sausages have HFCS.

    2) "pancake syrup" is mostly HFCS and artificial maple flavoring.

    3) PopSecret popcorn has >= 3.5g of trans-fat per serving, and a bag is 3.5 servings. :-/

    4) Doritos are made w. MSG.

    5) "I Cant Believe It's Not Butter" spray says "0 calories per serving". But a serving is "one spray".

    6)Most salad dressings have HFCS.

  • honestly i think people just have a natural fear of vegitarians..i dont think people actualyl give a jack-poopoo if theyre eating enough protein or not...its just the thought of someone not eating meat is SO unnatural to some people that it scares them...Trust me, 99% of vegetarians are not out there to change the world (most are past the point of trying)...it is a PERSONAL value.

  • my sister & I are trying to get healthier. and totally agree with what your saying. Our whole household is not supportive of us wanting to be raw. They are freaked out about protein & calcium. And they insist eating greens is more expensive than having eggs & bacon in the morning.   • You have a lot of good stuff to share. I recall when I lost weight, my so called friend took one look at me and said I was 'over doing it at the gym' & I needed to put weight back on. The minute she said this I knew she was jealous. I felt good so I took no notice of her comments. Also, I agree with you about the food industry. I guess this is why I re-trained in nutrition, so I can help those who want to take better care of themselves but are not sure where to start or what to do.

  • I used to need to eat half a box of Double Stuf Oreos with milk or an entire pint of ice cream every single night in order to feel satiated. Usually that was after eating an incredibly unhealthy dinner of take-out Chinese, pizza, Hamburger Helper, mac and cheese, or something along those lines. I was incredibly addicted. I have no doubt in my mind that certain foods have opiate effects. Thank you so much for the great videos. All of us need a wake up call from somewhere.

My mom, and father frick and push meat after even 10 years later knowing I don't eat it....slowly now they are giving in...but here is my daughter now, "why don't you give her meat, fish...buying me books on how meat is important etc.." When cousin was getting skinny my mom when out of her way to try to feed her every time she was over. Weird...I was overweight so for me she was taking food away just to embarrass me to make her self feel better...

Friends, family, and even the food industry can't make your choices for you. I can understand that it's incredibly hard to loose weight. But dieters should not be looking for more excuses for failure. Here's my conclusion: Are you trying to help people? Or are you just another narcissistic proselytizer trying to blame your own failures on others?

I, myself, and struggling to lose the last 20 pounds; have considered going 75% raw. I feel it's so hard for me to stay onboard with a healthy lifestyle change, I am always being saotaged by friends or family! How much weight have you personally lost since your journey has begun?

  • i have seen all ur videos and have changed my ideals about dieting. I think i can stick to my diet for many year to come. After 2 months of dieting, i went from 194 pounds to 166 pounds. All i did was eat less and exercise more. But you have to make sure you eat breakfast lunch and dinner and thats it. Snacks make u binge and binge but if you just eat fruits and vegetables and do 30-45 minutes of cardio a day, fat loss occurs and thats what motivates me to keep going

  • Have you read Not on the label? I read it a few years ago, it's kinda about what you're saying here and the food industry. Disgusting read, but eye opening!

    Also you hear about the tycoon who printed a full page ad in the new york times (i think, bad memory due to too many diet pills!) like 30 years ago? It just said something like -the top ten food products that are killing Americans- and then listed them. Within 24 to 48 hours most the companies had changed the recipes.

  • Awesome video. I just like to point out that all fat are not bad, but most is in processed foods. However, fats from stuff like nuts, avocado and tuna are GOOD fats for your body, they actually make you loose fat. A good diet contains more fat (GOOD fat that is) that most people think, because of the current low fat hype...

  • The food industry is a lobbying powerhouse. It has proven itself "untouchable" and utterly immune to health related reforms. Just look at trans fat (i.e. partially hydrogenated oils). That crap is in EVERYTHING, and it is at least twice as bad for you as natural saturated fats like butter. Saturated fats only encourage a rise in "bad (LDL) cholesterol", trans fats raise LDL and lower HDL! Food companies use trans fats to save money because that stuff lasts forever without going rancid.

  • I don't know what cause me to get gout but I think it could also be the Sodium Nitrate that meat companies use to preserve meats. I'm Asian and my nature is to live a long and healthy life. My mother eats greens all the time and ever since I moved away I stopped eating those green and healthy foods. I am also overweight. I weigh roughly 268lbs and I am 5'9". My body fat 23%. I wt train in the gym all the time and do cardio but i get nowhere, i need to change my diet.

  • I've been doing some research on eating raw and such. It's better for your mind, helps you think clearer, and ultimately better for your body.  The reason I am consider changing my eating habit is because I have this thing called Gout. I'm only 29 and I have had my first gout attack when i was 25 and these gout attacks are caused by high purines from meats. The purine converts to uric acid and uric acid builds up in your system and eventually form crystals and attack joints and u get gout

  • yea, you would be amazed how much less fat you will get from real food. I get my beef from a local farmer, being as I live in the mid-west. Real sweet corn, real meat, real everything will not make you gain weight so easily.

  • you are 100% rigth.. always when i lost kgs my mom was claiming that i'm too skinny.. , my sister started to tell it when became fat... when she was slim she didnt behave like that.

  • A lot of people don't realize it, but jealusy can get in the way of the best of intentions. As for the food industry, if everyone was dieting, junk food companies in particular would lose a lot of money, so of course they don't care.

  • i totally agree with you. my mom has always harped on me about my weight and says i'm too fat. i lose 11 pounds and go home to visit her and instead of telling me i looks good and telling me she's proud of me for losing some weight, she says "wow, you look really skinny. have you been eating? i think you are way too skinny now." it's like what hell? i can never satisfy her. she seems to be more happy with me when i'm over weight instead of when i'm average.

  • Isn't that a bit like the parent fussing too much though- doesn't want you to be fat or skinny, doesn't make much sense I admit! I think the important thing is how you interpret what's been said to you, if someone said I was really skinny I'd be elated and carry on- it's an eating disorder mindset. If they said I was fat, I'm then a bad, no good person in general. I'm trying to move away from those thoughts and look at things more rationally. It's me whose been neurotic and paranoid.

  • Your friends and family want you fat?! They love you, they hopefully support you, why would they want you to be overweight with all the associated health problems that come from high cholesterol and high blood pressure? It's neurotic. It's fearful. It's paranoid. It's an eating disorder thought pattern, I know cos I had one. As for the food industry, I think the diet industry makes billions from wanting you thin and playing on mostly women's insecurities, and 91% of diets don't work. Get help.

  • I remember when I losing weight (by exercising and eating better) on of my friends on facebook wrote on my wall "Hey girl you are losing a lot of weight are you ok?" I was so pissed off that I never spoke to her again and I took her off my list! And she was fat. I felt like she was hating on me or something!   • Subway is not the best. Almost any restaurant you go to is not the best. Organic everything is best! I know it sounds extremes but 60 years ago almost everything was organic b/c we rarely used chemicals to denature out food. Your best bet is to get in the habit of making your lunch @night & bringing it to work. Eat organic as much as possible. Do the best you can when you can. If you eat @ subsway I would go for the salad.. skip the bread. It is full of corn syrup among other things..

  • raw ice cream or vegan ice cream ( easliy available) is much better for you & taste GREAT! If you eat regular ice cream make it organic.

  • I thought this video you did was excellant thank you so much because I have never heard of the halo effect. I have made a decision to just cook my own food at home.

  • Great decision also look into eating more raw fruits & veggeis in their original uncooked state.

  • I do understand what you are saying about the Halo effect which makes sense... more people DO need to make their own food. I think more people need to start taking RESPONSIBILITY for what they are putting in their mouth... and for getting off the couch and getting active.

    The equation is simple (not always to follow through)

    More calories burned than put in = weightloss

  • I've been watching your vids for some time now, and I gotta say, You Rock! I can definitely relate with how friends, family, coworkers, and the food industry can sabotage your goals for eating healthy. I'm going to pick up David Kessler's book today. Actually, last night my boyfriend and I were talking about how the food industry really does want you fat. It is horrible to think about how little healthy food alternatives are available at most restaurants. And the portion sizes are way too big!
