There's always a bunch of pretetious arsewipes that have to get all high & mighty about things on youtube - if you like a song/band say so, why bother looking up stuff to whinge & whine about in a "I'm cleverer than yow" way FUCK OFF!
The drummer in this band was a complete and utter wanker! There was something about him that made me want to slap the face off him! Always posing in Mc Gonagles, thought he was real cute!
They were a terrible group and that is why they are not still around. The front man is a poser and the clearly did not understand melody. There were far better bands in Dublin at the time. These guys were phoney but I undeerstand the front man grew inot a great artist. He was only a kid when he did all this.
your talking balls buddy, if the '77 after your name is your date of birth then you were 13 when they played. Do you know what a Melody is or means in the context of a song? I can hear some in there ok? What bands in dublin were better at the time please tell. Oh, and they were already signed to a major record label so if they were phoney I think the A&R guy would have seen that before he signed them.
Now you are suggesting 13 years olds dont understand melody. You obviously have no idea what a melody is. These guys were posers and desperately tried to be a Cure tyoe Irish thing. Style over substance. The problem was their style was brutal. They did not deserve to get a big contract and probably lost the record company serious money. Better and more honest bands in Dublin at the time. The list is endless. Those Handsome Devils. Sharkbait. The Dixons. The Foremen. Blue in Heaven. D.O.B 1970.
Couple of these bands you've just said were unsigned Rockabilly bands in dublin so how can you compare?Power of dreams not only had a record deal first with polydor but then with sony which saw a global tour and they sold loads in Japan,France,UK.Did any of the above?(maybe blue in heaven sold a few)Your sadly comparing your rockabilly split groups and bluesy sound of blue in heaven to an alternative sound of the time influenced by the wedding Present who really sound f**k all like the Cure
You were born in 70 and say THESE guys were posers? Oh, lord. Guess you didn't have enough of growing up with "Hair" bands. I'm in L.A. and heard about these guys LONG before the internet was second nature. Spent a lot of dough on imports - The indy circle found that POD were BY FAR the single best new indy band around. Posers? Hardly. Fantastic lyrics and music? You bet. The Dixons? Please. There's no comparison. Absolutely none.
L.A. A fan from far away. Thats cool. If you think that these guys were lyrically good then I concede to you. A 5 year old could write better lyrics. Musically they were plodding and boring and lacked any innovation.
If one begins to measure sucess in the music industry commercially then you have lost the argument by your own means. Do they still tour? Do they still make money? No. They lost the respective record companies lots of money. They flopped. I would prefer to be in a band that never comprimised it's musical integrity and just tried doing what they do. They were like a bad "Cure" tribute act with stupid hair the posturing was disturbing. Keep continuing to judge music by commerce. Accountant.
So why did Those Handsome Devils change from Rockabilly to garage rock as they state, isn't that a loss of integrity? Do they still tour, do they still make money? Fact: members of Those Handsome Devils left to join The DIxons in '87 and The Dixons then went full time in search of a record deal so the real facts as can be seen on both their myspace pages do the real talking. They compromised and went for commercial success which sadly, they didn't get so your whole argument is meaningless.Dreamer
You really are an accountant. Be original. Dont recycle my points and try to turn them around. It only makes you look like a little thinker. Think outside the box and when you have and original argument that is relevant then reply. Dont reply in anger as look how stupid your points are. Stop wasting my time with infantile replies. Dumb Accountant.
You really are blind or thick as shit.I've pointed out that you've totally contradicted your original points and you still don't realise it.What's this with the accountant, you mentioned that they weren't making money so do you know something? Every group you mentioned were after a record deal ie,to become commercial when you first pointed out that that's not what they were about.I'll reply how and when I like. Let me guess, you're in one of these failed bands that no-ones heard of? Sour Grapes?
Tell you what,i'm bored pointing out the facts which completely contradict your very own argument. You're the one who has always said they lost the record co money, how do you know that? Are YOU the accountant. You obviously have no idea of how the music industry works and why people in bands put in time and effort to get signed and get their music out to a wider audience. If your happy going to obscure Dublin bars with a few mates to watch these bands dream of success(not likely now)then go for it.
About time. A clear reply not driven by rage. I am not a musician but know awful lot about the music business. The internet has changed how it works and all young bands andn writers understand this. Eitherway it is still a lottery and a very very cruel business. With the implosion of record sales and kids copying music it now gone full circle and musicians must go back out and play live to make money no matter if you are a local group or U2. Oddly the interent has helped bring live music back.
You've pointed out nothing you dumb moron. There are no contradictions. This band were shit. The lead singer went on to do very well when he matured on concentrated on the music and not the image. I do suffer from severe myopia. Infact you could say that I am technically blind but it is not a problem. All the other senses make up fo it. Obviously your hearing and mental capacities are severly compromised. As I said get back when you have an original idea in your head. I love sour grapes
I knew people who new these guys and anytime I met them they posed and postured like rock gods! Too cool for school! Hated them. Bland banal and at very best, mediocre!
Alas Billy..whilst most good thimgs do come from Cork..the PODs didnt..only the guitarist Ian ( ex Cypress,Mine! currently playing Bass with the Sultans ) came from Cork..the rest of the boys where Mullets
Just the bass intro to this song immediately sends me back to age 14 and a longing to take on the whole world.
This song, above so many others of its time, truly sums up the zeitgeist for me: a true "fuck the world and give me some love" feeling that flowed down to us wee teenieboppers of the age.
Pity we pissed it all away, eh? Ah well - I still have my memories of 1990, and so far as I know no-one can take them away from me yet.
