The wood are for growing mushrooms , they need dark and damp wood to grow.
Shitake is grown like that and some other mushrooms also.

No worries! There are many foreigners living n the Haeundae area! I don't live there anymore. I left in early 2007 and now live in Japan.
If you live in Haeundae you are very lucky. it's a great place to live!
