If you're just cutting out shapes like stars, flowers or hearts, this technique is unnesessary. They could've just used cookie cutters

You could use this technique if you were giving a square sheet a scalloped edge or something... that's just my personal opinion though...

I agree totally, I think a boom mic might be better than those clip mics.. the sound fluctuates so much.

I think it'd be safe if you put glossy varnish on it, put it on a delicate wash and let it hang dry it should be fine :)
