@karuitha what are the chances that govt will continue to ignore what you mentioned and more pressing issues to address "new" ventures like ict and more?
the digital age is here and digital literacy is important, online safety notwithstanding.
@siasabora, c'mon! now you are becoming stubborn! so what are you going to say about sex ed in schools? its not all about internet fcol...i rest my case.
@Utadowot : really? its like telling a 10 yr old to start the family car, rev the engine, play music and invite his buddies to play inside...then you ask them to be good...not to drive it Huh?
@Utadowot introducing babies who can barely read let alone write is craziness. You do not walk before you have crawled. My God we have schools with leaking roofs, no teachers, no desks and even no toilets and you want to tell me that spending billions of shillings that could be used to build schools n recruit more teachers in buying computers is common sense??
@suensmith sema kitu please. I think this is madness, kwanza the man says ati they start teaching them from baby class. you mean a 2 yr old will know facebook b4 he/she can know how to say aeiou or even to read, spell n write
@Utadowot wewe wacha, ati from baby class. I say why not teach kids the fundmentles like reading, spelling n writing first b4 you expose them to scary world of the internet
talk about brilliance! computer wizards have just been born here at Capstone Preparatory School, Eldoret. imagine how good you are in computer, and you just started using it the other day when u joined COLLEGE.how good then will these kids be when they reach college, just serious wizards! ICT IS THE WAY TO GO!
@bwanakeino: My fears exactly...with rich old toothless tourists with hairy chests jamming the coastal beaches seeking young underage girls to devour, it is only a matter of time b4 the 'Predator Series' comes to a town near Eldoret Nakuru and Kathozweni....by then it will be too late!
@bwanakeino This kids are too young to be exposed to computers. Ati they start from baby class, what is this man saying?? next I'd be getting a friend request on facebook from a 2 yr old.
I thin this is nice!..the rest of the world is driven by technology and we should also embrace it if we are to catch up!..however, they should sure those kids are a little older..some of them look too young!
Too young for computers?Seriously?that is where the future,in IT!When it comes to IT in the Unis, the europen students are so far ahead that the African students barely catch up,and some people are saying that these kids are too young for computers? No wonder it's a developing country, where foreigners come, make discoveries, market them and make billions from what kenyans have been having at their disposal all along, and from the looks of it,kenya will remain developing for many years to come
@nyambush11 : relax whoever said 'discoveries' are done in computers? these kids can't even clean their noses yet...and I have no problem youngsters playing games...outside! what you want the country to turn a bunch of cranky red eyed zombies over weights? go get some fresh air kids it aren't snowing in Africa!
@siasabora cost-benefit analysis- BENEFIT:Recent research suggests computer use among preschool children may actually improve their readiness for school and academic achievement.
COST: Children who spend many hours in front of a computer have a greater risk of developing computer ergonomics problems and computer vision syndrome and the dangers of online predators. SOLUTION: Teachers supervise all internet usage.
@siasabora I didn't say the discoveries are made in computers,i said that general ignorance brought about lack of education and information makes kenyans prone to exploitation.do you know how many foreign researchers come to kenya donate some old computers to the kenyan universities in exchange for unsupervised research and out of that, create multi million or biliion dollar industries?we need to educate our children.we need our OWN researchers so that the country can benefit from it's resources.
@nyambush11: Yu right...R&D is crucial for progress...but why burn billions of scarce resources 'researching' trying to re-invent the wheel? just 'copy and paste' what Japanese or MIT have successfully done? of course selectively leaving out the bad stuff? the Chinese is now a super power and did exactly that.
@siasabora first things 1st, teach kids how to write, spell, n read. then build better schools with roofs that dont leak when it rains, then pay teachers well n finally after all they r old n mature enuf expose them to the computer. I am shocked to hear ati they are teaching them from baby class. so expect a friend request on fb from a 2 yr old from this village
@K: Y would kids be amused by a Camel online and at home they live with animals? why play chess game with some strange pervert in Taiwan when your son can play with you in the house...? Kila kitu na wakati wake!
@'71: yeah them kids too young to be old...my problem is what are they trying to learn here on those PCs? case of flying before one can barely walk? diving in a water pool to learn swimming?
