what did the original monster look like? Not any of the ones that were in the base, but the real alien that came from the UFO? In the new prequel it looks a lot like a bug, but it doesn't really look like the kind of alien that could build a giant ship seen in the movie. Or was it really an alien at all or some kind of virus that infected people and mutated them?

@ITheOscarI I don't think it's possible to tell what the Thing looks like in its original form. According to the movie, it's imitated thousand of different creatures from thousands of different worlds, and can change into any one of them at any time.

i watched some of this movie when i was five. i am now thirteen and i'm still peterfied with fear because of two things.

A) the SLIME! over the years i have started to hate slime.

B) how REAL IT LOOKS! its a horrific masterpeice.

The Blood test scene was the scariest thing i seen when i was kid this and the blob were the first alien movies i saw but the very very first horror flick i saw was people under the stairs from wes craven that and the new nightmare.

Yea it's an alien...very intelligent one as well it retains all knowledge of whatever it consumes. It crash landed in it's spaceship. Also each individual cell is a living being so unless you find away to burn every single cell or vaporize it, it will regenerate and come back.

I love this movie, but the Thing does have a much bigger weakness than a jet of fire from a flamethrower, and that is Russell's epic beard. If it ever got to him and made a copy, I believe this is how it would go down later on:

The Other Men: "Hold it right there, Mac. Something's wrong."

Fake MacReady: "What do you mean?"

The Other Men, scrutinizing his face: "Just as we thought."

Bring their flamethrowers up and at the ready.

"Beard's not thick enough."

Do you think it's ok to remake a movie that isn't terribly well known or not beloved? Do you know that Carpenter's movie is a remake of a hokey 1951 b-movie? the original had a great idea but they didn't have the time or technology to execute the idea justice, Carpenter grew up with the original as it was one of his childhood faves and he remade it with love and respect for it. The upcoming movie is a prequel, not a remake.
