It's an infraction only in the offensive zone. I remember Steve Yzerman doing that one time against the Flyers when the Wings won the Cup in '97. He was just a couple of feet inside the Wings' zone when he batted a puck out of the defensive zone into the Flyers' end and no penalty was called.

If Helm closed his hand around the puck while it's in the paint, I think it's a penalty shot and/or two-minutes in the box for delay-of-game.

@triplexxxsatyr Playing the puck with the glove isn't a penalty. It's simple a stoppage in play if you or your teammate are the first to touch it after you bat it (Only applicable in the offensive zone/neutral zone). In the defensive zone, no whistle will be blown for a glove pass. But in no scenario is it a penalty unless, like you said, covered the puck with his hand in the crease. It would be a penalty shot.

@smallfry206 It is legal to bat the puck with your glove as long as the your in the defensive zone. In the neutral zone and offensive zone it is considered a hand pass and the play is blown dead (if someone on your team touches the puck, if the opposition touches the puck then the play resumes).

helm has been my favorite since last years playoffs with his domination ont he penalty kill vs chicago i think that one game. then the ot winner to send the wings to the finals, and that breakaway vs. anaheim in game 7, that kids a scrappy player. he may not score but fuck hell play harder than anyone else out there.
