love this song, covered this song in 1998 played it in a live show and had to correct alot of the people in the crowd who thought it was an original. How can the 90's metal heads not know this song or this amazing band.
Saw Hum at summerfest in Wisconsin back in 94 or 95...... they had two cds that were really pretty good.. your typical grunge type music with some melody
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
this song blows... sory but its part of the whole nirvana music thing thus bringing around shitty bands like seether three days grace and puddle of mud.... they all sound the fuckin same... theres 3 singers.... kirk seether and nickelback. all the the fucking same and has ruined music to this day. the music sucked so much ppl moved to rap and country.
@WhiteRanger41 your reasoning behind why this isn't good is not even relevant to what it is, sorry some shitty bands may have been inspired by this great band. And this is nothing like Nirvana, not even close. Hum's first release was in 1990, just one year after Nirvana's first release which was in 1989, and was there much darker album Bleach anyway. So if you're trying to say Hum is a band just jumping on the Nirvana grunge bandwagon, you're an idiot. Get your facts straight before
i wonder how the hell i ever missed this song when it came out.... i admit i only first heard it playing saints row 2... now i'm always listening the "the krunch" to hear rhis over and over again!!!!
Early nineties was such a great time in music. Bands like jawbox, hum, lotion, velocity girl, the nightblooms, dinosaur jr. Where are today's innovators? All we have are a bunch of bland bull (nickleback,Katy perry,Justin the beaver).
Saw them outside live on Wesleyan IL campus quad in '95 or '96. Loudest outdoor show I've ever seen in my life. This band has always been one of my largest influences. Downward is a hell of an album too.
I always like this song, since the first time I heard it off a sampler. Very catchy, heavy/clean combo. Kind of grungy. I'd be down for another wave of grunge.
These guys were students at University of Illinois in the late 80's. My brother knew them and he graduated U of I in '91. So they were doing their thing before Cobain and Pumpkins. Too bad they didn't take off ... kick ass band.
This band is awesome. Check them out on the Howard Stern show playing this one. They blow the hell out of the engineers. It is Hilarious They were sooo loud!!!
So what's so sad about this song being used in a Caddy commercial? I don't see the sadness there. Should be giving props to them for being progressive. Salud!
Nahh man cobain's vocals were always a bit raspier than this guy's, even in his early days. That's atleast how it sounds to me..I can see where you could see that though.
i used to wait up to watch this on 120 minutes back in the day, befor i bought the casette, i taped it off the t.v. onto my boombox....and that was in 1995!?!
the caddy add is a two sided coin. on one side, the music is out in the open almost 14 years after its release, but on the other side, no one who wants to buy a caddy will find out what this song is and who performed it. too bad.
Guitarist reminds me of Stephen Carpenter From Deftones cause of the way he plays guitar so aggresive, thats y i like this song because the music sounds similar to deftones
Still one of my all time favorite songs. About it being in a car commercial: just goes to show, that anything is for sale these days. A sad but true commentary. I don't think it diminishes the song in any way though.
it's a really good song., I'm not gonna bitch, whine and moan about it being in a car commercial, I don't know how that could actually ruin a song, and I don't think it does.
What an amazing song. I'm definitely bummed about this being in a commercial, just because it joins other great songs that I can no longer enjoy without immediately thinking of the commercial (Led Zeppelin's "Rock 'n' Roll" and STP's Wicked Garden" in car ads, Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" in a KFC ad). Still, thanks for posting this video in its unadulterated form!
They just mean Hum has sold out luishomeroremohsiut (probably needed the cash). Never saw the commercial though. I just love 'she's not at work, she's not at school, she's not in bed. I think I finally broke her'.
Great band, not just a great song - both their records are excellent but I think both are out of print.
I would have been angry about it 10 years ago, but now I'm actually glad the song's on a GM ad. With all the great music they made, this is probably the first time they've made any money off it.
i noticed that!! I was walking by my parents' room and i was like, "Hey it's stars by hum." so i walked in and realized it was a cadillac commercial so i was all frowny the rest of the day D:
can't believe i thought of this song!
very happy that i did!
a very random purchase i made when i was younger.

I generally despise car commercials, but it makes me cringe a bit more when I hear a song I really loved in them.
But I still love this song - unfortunately, the rest of the album doesn't quite stir me as much as "Stars". It's not bad, but neither is it that good.
