  • @laura0181 I just thought I would point out that Jeremy Otth and Laura Keat are two of the dancers in this video. You should also look up Shesha Marvin and wife Nikki (who dances with mikey pedroza)- they've taught and competed all over the nation and some! But, I suppose you already knew that, since you clearly already know everything thing there is to know about lindy.

  • whose singing this? it's not a good version

  • Whitey lindy hop dancers from the 1941 film 'Hellzapoppin'

  • I do not mean to be negative...they are awesome. But look at the real Lindy Hoppers

Look up ==>> Two can have a party ... Tammi Terrell

  • I was daydreaming about a perfect combination of the two, because I wanted to do it for a talent show, and then I saw this and SCREAMED!!

    ...

Then I saw the video and cried. :( Dance,Dance is an awesome song, but this version was just... blegh. Honestly, I think the dancers were worse, What was with those costumes? And the lame booty-shaking... I hope someone redoes this, because I think it's a great combo, but use the recorded version and get better dancers!!

    ...

    I feel better now.

  • Once again, the MUSIC is AWFUL. Lindy Hop developed in conjunction with Swing (and early Jazz, if I'm not mistaken), it's not something in itself. Swing music also is not something in itself. We're talking about a musical era.

  • Why didn't they just use the recorded version?

  • great lindy hoppers, the music is a shit

  • Appropriately, lame, stiff, and stunted. Give me Whitey's Lindy Hop troupe. Peace.

  • newbies! don't know anything!

  • Yes, this is a good routine and I wish people would stop complaining about the music and stop being so narrow minded. People like that give lindy hoppers a bad name. It's a creative and expressive dance and this was awesome. Besides they are on tv and you are not so get over it!

  • The group did some really great lindy hop in spite of the music, not because of it.

Too bad DWTS didn't see fit to play classic swing music for classic swing dancing. I guess the producers thought that your typical person today wouldn't be able to relate to real-deal, hot swing music. I think they are mistaken.

Oh well, I guess this at least shows that America's true folk dance is still versatile enough and vital enough to be danced to contemporary music, almost 70 years after the swing era.

  • they were in the fallout boy dance dance video, so... ya

  • completely wrong music :(

  • The girls need to wear lower heals for sure. If they don't land exactly right when they are comming out of those aerials, someone doesn't have a partner. If they had the actual song instead of a cover I think I would have enjoied the performance a bit more, but oh well.

  • boring - maybe it's the so off music

  • This is called "ballroom swing", not true Lindy Hop. If you want to see some real lindy hop, try searching anything done by Nick Williams, Laura Keat, Jeremy Ott, Jo Hoffberg, Kevin St. Laurent or people like that.

  • I know they are swing instructors, but this is a crime against the Lindy Hop. I wonder if they choreographer picked the song or the show. I'm hoping it was the show and they had no choice but to go along with it. No offense to the dancing, athough I bet all those girls dance way better in lower shoes. Look at the landing of that girl's foot after 1:45. DWTS is cheesy. If I had a tv, I would have thrown something at it.

  • Hate the song. Hate the costumes. Hate the shoes. Did you see that girl hurt her foot on the landing of that jump around 1:50?

  • Hate the song. Hate the costumes.

  • What fucking idiot decided that this bullshit music was a good choice for lindy hopping?

  • Love DWTS and Fall Out Boy and usually the band does a really good job, but I don't think they were meant to do this song.

  • I agree, the moves are good the music was awful!

  • The music choice is a joke to go with this dancing. Whoever is responsible on the show needs locking up in a lunatic asylum!

  • The music choice is a joke to go with this dancing. Whoever is responsible on the show needs locking up in a lunatic asylum!

  • The music choice is a joke to go with this dancing. Whoever is responsible on the show needs locking up in a lunatic asylum!

  • who chose this music. I could throw up.

  • Wrong music, wrong dancing. Sorry but Lindy Hop has just been turned into a slow rather bad gymnastic choreography by unenthusiastic dancers. If you want to see real swing, just Bing or Google.

  • what terrible music for such amazing dancing.

  • Fall Out Boy and DWTS? Seems like it would be an epic win...and it was good..but..Patrick Stump has way more range than that guy

  • i actually don't agree. I think the song is a good choice because it shows the world that you can swing to anything.

  • No. Not to this song.

  • Great dancing, but the music completely ruined it for me. It's a rock 'n' roll dance for fuck sake!!

  • this is SO awesome shesha! i had no idea you were on the show :)

  • i dont think fall out boy was really the right song choice however i REALLY like them.

  • fall out boy in no way is rock. at all. my chemical romance is a bad choice too.

  • lol... no it wasnt shag. It was a bunch of great instructors having a ball doing nothing but lifts and jumps and some Charleston and even some Balboa thrown in. I loved it.

  • great moves, WRONG MUSIC

  • He'd be sad with this comment.

  • They probably were inspired by the actual Dance, Dance music video where two dancers pull some lindy hop-ish moves.

  • Very unlikely band, but MCR's "House of Wolves" would have been an amazing song choice. I was told it's tempo is 215 beats per minute and it has that heavy drum beat...

  • Ok, so the steps work with any music, but let's face it -- the dance moves much better with music that actually swings! Great dancers, right dance, wrong music.

  • this isnt fall out boy that they used for the song. they WROTE the song. and its THEIR song. But that is NOT their version. THat is a guy TRYING to sing like patrick stump (and failing) and its some guy who is playing the wrong notes on guitar. they got a cheap crappy cover band version.

  • Yeah, but that's what DWTS does... just cover bands. Only the PRO dancers get the star music. (mostly)

  • LOL @ Len's face at 3:00.

He's like wtf was that boogaloo hip hop?

  • I actually don't mind the song choice, but I do mind the costuming. It seemed silly to have the classic costumes with Fallout Boy playing.

  • I don't think it's "classic". They definitely look like the neo-swing/punk infused crowd of the 90's. Remember when BBVD and Brian Setzer were popular... yeah that time.

  • those weren't classic costumes..

  • I don't know what you people are talking about. This Fall out boy is an awesome song for lindy. It does show that you can lindy to almost anything. I thought it was a refreshing break from seeing lindy routines with the same old 30s - 40s music. Those who can't lindy to music other than swign and blues from this era just aren't good dancers or they are very narrow minded.

PS these people who taught this routine need to teach the contestants of today cause these competitors can't lindy!

  • @Kristyleigh83 There are fundamental differences between "the same old 30s and 40s music" and rock and roll. Lindy Hop is based on a swung triple step. In musical terms of "1-e-and-a-2-e-and-a" the swung triple would be 1 a 2. This rhythm simply doesn't exist in rock and roll and thats why it is wrong to dance to it.

  • @GHunter3016 Since you are going over some technicalities of a dance that was originally built on the foundation of improvisation you must be a new lindy hopper who has bought into all that "lindy hop has to be danced to certain music" mumbo jumbo. Lindy hop can be danced to this kind of music and any other kind of music that a person feels. Granted, it would be hard to do lindy hop obviously to a waltz song, but most music it is doable. I think Sesha and his group did a great job on this.

  • @Kristyleigh83 I respect your opinion, but I also respectfully disagree.

Yes, they did a great job, but to me, while lindy hop is "doable" to most music (as long as it's in 4/4 time; waltz is in 3/4 time), if I tried to style my dancing to this song, I wouldn't call my dancing lindy hop. And if I danced lindy hop, I wouldn't feel as if I were dancing to the music. Change the music, and the dance will change. That's why today we have west coast swing, hustle, etc. Just my $0.02. Take it FWIW.

  • wow way to ruin an amazing song.

  • I'm disgusted at the song choice.

  • Yeah... lindy can't be done to this crap. I'm impressed they were able to do anything great to this.

  • I hate to tell you this but you can lindy to just about anything given somebody who can lead.

  • agreed!

  • Jeremy, Laura, Shesha, and NIkki, wonderful routine!!!! :) I'm grateful to have such awesome instructors!!

  • Swing outs, circles, charleston. Yup it's lindy. Crappy music though !!!

  • What about that Balboa thown in there? LOL

  • lol, that was shag...

  • Really??? Hmm. Guess I need to spend more time watching shag. aside from the Doug Silton/Tatiana Mollman at Reno Dance Sensation, I've never enjoyed what I've recognized as Shag. Thanks for the correction!

  • wtf??? this isn't the real version of the song, its a cheap rip off, they DO NOT sound like that.

Cheap asses wounldn't even pay for the royalties to the real version

  • i'm not the biggest fan of this show but i'd have to defend that. it's because they do all their songs with a real band not recorded stuff. its much better to dance to and it just sounds better. it would take too much time AND cost a fortune to get royalties for all the songs they use. still, however, they have the real acts come and perform from time to time.

  • Social dancing is definately better with live music, but it's actually harder to do a routine to live music because you're not as sure of the timing.

  • you wouldn't notice right off, but it actually tells you at the beginning it isn't fall out boy. it took me a couple viewings to realize that it says in smaller print just under that it's the dancing with the stars orchestra and there singers(okay it doesn't mention their singers but you can tell).

  • Who has to be shot for selecting the song??

  • this is a really bad song!

  • Nice Moves! Bad song choice.

  • ohhhh yes youre right! poor girl!

  • The poor girls ankle in the white shirt and black skirt!!! Pay attention at 1:45.

  • You guys are so much fun on the dance floor and in general. I will always be thankful for Shesha and Nikki in being my first Lindy instructors. You all are just completely awesome. Here is the proof right here.

    Love ya!

  • shesha and nikki, you guys rule! (and jeremy and laura too). is the OC Swing team performing on national television any time soon? :)

  • good dancing, bad music :(

  • they are pretty good but the singers not so much

  • the song is Dance Dance by Fall Out boy but compared to the original THIS SONG IS TERRIBLE I WAS CRYING!!!!!!!!

  • amazing guys!

  • Does anyone know the name of the song?

  • Just googled the answer. It's DANCE, DANCE by FALL OUT BOY.

  • dance dance- fall out boy

  • EXCELLENT!

  • friggin awesome guys!

  • Thats my new favourite Swing Song... I'm downloading it right fucking now.

  • Mickey is tongue in cheek. He's joking. No need to thumbs down him :-)

  • @mickeyandkelly

You must not be a lindy hopper.

  • @chinamooncake Did you even read the username? You must not be a Lindy Hopper. How awkward for you.
