@yragg96 Yeah but its much easier to buy a SATA DVD writer for $22 on newegg dot com. Reason being I was in the same boat as you. I bought a real cheap adapter on ebay and it only supported IDE hard drives no IDE DVD CDrom drives. Plus the piece I did get goes into berserk mode where the pc would not respond or the read and write speeds dropped to 4mb sec. Plus the connections would butt up against the metal drive casing. The other good option if you have PCI slots is to get the Syba IDE
Controller card on newegg for $18. It would have to be bootable if you want to install windows with it because I did buy a cheap $8 card with the same chip on the card and it was not bootable like the Syba one was which means I could not use an IDE hard drive to boot with since it only saw the devices after windows was done loaded. The part number is SYBA SD-VIA-1A2S. Now you will see a DVD SATA drive is $1 more the item number is N82E16827135204 on newegg. This one I do own and works great
One thing to point out is that the HDD is 44 pin as you can see the HDD is old and bigger than a laptop's HDD. This adapter only works for 44 pin HDD... is there another adaptor for 40 pin HDD ?
Hello, i have this adapter and i try to connect ide cd rom to sata ports on mb. I do everything correctly but red light is always on and it doest not work, ca you help?
@overclockeador you are correct, these adapters not always work. Mine did not work either. I have a Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter, it comes with mini CD driver software which is useless.. this adapter does not work with a HDD that I am trying to recognize to get data off of. Now I have another adapter made or sold by CABLESTOGO, this adapter actually sees the HDD as a device but I cannt data off of just yet. In most cases if the HDD is just fine, it actually works.
wait 1 sec i have a ide compatible motherbord , and i have an extra ide ribbon cable for an extra ide hdd , but i wanna buy a sata hdd , how i can perform that ? yes sound n00b , but i really wanna know .
Sweet, I need one. I got a new SATA HDD. I have an older motherboard (D845PEBT2) which does support SATA. I plug the drive in, the motherboard finds it no problem, but both XP and 7 install discs will not find the drive. And in windows XP after booted, it wont find it that way either. Yet, the drive works fine with my SATA to USB. Can add and remove data no problem. Stupid motherboard.
in the video u said we can see the full review at your website but i went there and couldnt find the vid. how to i get to it because i really wanna watch the full review. thanks man
It sounds (from the narrative) as though you need ANOTHER cable, (in addition to the ones that come with the convertor) to provide POWER to the IDE drive. Is that correct? (I only ask because the guys at TigerDirect, where I bought two of these) told me there was no additional cabling required. I'll be pissed if they're wrong!
Mmm! I'm still wondering where my Internal Blu-ray Caddy Exclosure's gone as it's not come 2 the door yet but will probably be with me Wednesday or Thursday. Anyone know if I can just use a DVD Caddy Exclosure 4 a Blu-ray/HD DVD Drive?
My ASUS P5ND MB only has 4 sata ports> Is it ok to plug this adaptor directly into IDE slot on the MB and create a 5th sata port since the other 4 are full with HDD and disc drives? Now I want to plug another HDD or maybe my other Blueray/lightscribe/RW+dvd/wr+cd drive. PLEASE PLEASE RESPOND I AM SCARED TO TURN MY RIG BACK ON WITH THIS SET-up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if my motherboard has a ide slot, does that mean I Have to use an ide hhd?? or cuz i just ignore it and connect it normaly? whihc would be connect the hdd with sata and the power supply?
i have a sata to ide pci card as i dont have any sata ports on my hdd, could i hook up just the sata hdd, so its the primary hdd and run windows off of it? thanks
@Disloopman Hey Kid< So whats the verdict. I asked OC the same ? Read my above comment and let me know if this is what u tried to do and if it worked or not?
i have a problem but i bought too diffrent adapter to turn a ide into a sata hardrive and installed windows xp on it and when booting up i get ntldr is missing please help me

@LeonMeekis84 i just ordered the converter and am going to perform an experiment using my old laptops 160gb sata harddrive to try and install it on my original xbox ill let you know how it goes
This would solve the IDE to SATA problem, but I only have 1 male molex plug that is used for the disk drive.

@1200rist only if you have SATA, then it's IDE to SATA, which he showed. They no longer have molex connections, so get a converter too.
