Clark was a great hitter, outstanding fighter and had an excellent shot, but he gets crazy overrated by Leafs fans. He was a lousy passer, avergae puckhandler and just not very adept defensively. Cam Neely and Brendan Shanahan were far more complete players than him and I think Tocchet was a better all around player too
Tocchett always had the pleasure as well as the other 2 you mentioned with playing with very good players for a good portion of their career. Clark was defintely tougher than all 3, a more devastating fighter who fought everyone. Clark was a defencemen turned forward. But injuries hindered Clark more than anything. 6 times 30 or more goals and once with 46. At 18 he took on all-comers, something none of the other guys did.
First off, Tocchet took on everybody throughout his career. Secondly, what great offensive linemates was Tocchet playing with in Philly? YOu make it osund like Clark never had anybody to play with, meanwhile he was on a line with a hall-of-fame centerman in Doug Gilmour, and a borderline hall of famer in Dave Andreychuk. Neely And Shanan were both much better players, and that is not even debateable. And Tocchet to me was better because he could actually pass the puck and play defense.
Clark played parts of 3 years with Gilmour, Neely had Janney, Oates, Bourque, Poulin, Sweeney et al, and Tocchet played wih Howe,Kerr, Sutters, Propp Brind'Amour, Mellanby, Zezel, Lemieux, Francis, Gretzky, et al. None of the 3 you mentioned were as devastating as Clark at hitting or fighting. And if Clark had better players and less injury he would have posted better numbers.
BTW, Tocchet and Clark fought each other once in their careers and Rick Tocchet won the fight pretty clean. Another that is funny is Clark was a serial sucker-artist, he ALWAYS jumped people. If he was European, a guy like you'd be calling for his head
Tocchet was holding on at the end and even went down to a knee. You're one of those people who think Clark jumped players when they weren't looking. WRONG! Clark made a lot of heavys look ordinary and was a much stronger skater than Tocchet. Clark was the fastest to get his gloves off and KO's of Maley, Mackey, Barr, May, etc are legendary. His fights usually lasted 5 seconds. And if anything Tocchet jumped Clark.
Define defense for a forward except for the centreman? Stay with your point man, keep yourself between him and the goalie. If Clark didn't do that, then you are very naive. Neely was booted out of Vancouver and Shanny was highly touted and a good player but not near as reckless as the other 3. Neely fought Clark and was too afraid to drop the gloves!

Clark played half the games of all 3 and still had over 300 goals. Shanny is a great palyer but not near as strong on his skates as Neely and Clark. late hits have nothing to do with the number of passes. the rule is that you have to be within like 3 strides of the player when he passes it, for it to be on-time

Chelios would be the first guy to say "I should have kept my head up." I can't stand Harry Neal but him saying "You gotta be a man to play this game!" was dead on. At least then it was. Now...commentators applaud dives and say "What an intelligent play...he got his team a powerplay!" I have lived in Europe, but I have to say that their freaking "soccer mentality" really sucks. Did you ever see a game in the Old Chicago Stadium? Now fast forward to today's Blackhawks (until old Man Wirtz died)...I basically lost my interest in hockey they were so bad (and had no great players to speak of). If you loved hockey...it would piss you off, too. As far as calling me a pansy...I am 6'2", 225 and still play...wanna go into the corner with me, punk? Right...hockey is a tough game. Chris Chelios never threatened anyone...he said "If I were Gary Bettman, I would be worried about some crazy fan and my family..." Brian Propp got hammered with an elbow from Chelios...there was no sucker punch. Sure...he got knocked out and it was not a clean hit (it was clearly an elbow). It was not any different than most hits you see...unfortunate Propp's head hid the glass. Get your facts straight...

I don't like to put out negative karma but......what a great day for old time Blackhawk fans when "Dollar Bill" kicked. The Old Chicago Stadium was the absolute best place to see a hockey game. Through the 70's and 80's there really wasn't a better sports experience. The Blackhawks did well despite having the worst ownership / organ"I"zation in professional sports. If it wasn't for two dynasty teams the Blackhawks would surely have hoisted the cup. It's good to be interested again.

Clark was a great hitter, outstanding fighter and had an excellent shot, but he gets crazy overrated by Leafs fans. He was a lousy passer, avergae puckhandler and just not very adept defensively. Cam Neely and Brendan Shanahan were far more complete players than him and I think Tocchet was a better all around player too

Tocchett always had the pleasure as well as the other 2 you mentioned with playing with very good players for a good portion of their career. Clark was defintely tougher than all 3, a more devastating fighter who fought everyone. Clark was a defencemen turned forward. But injuries hindered Clark more than anything. 6 times 30 or more goals and once with 46. At 18 he took on all-comers, something none of the other guys did.

First off, Tocchet took on everybody throughout his career. Secondly, what great offensive linemates was Tocchet playing with in Philly? YOu make it osund like Clark never had anybody to play with, meanwhile he was on a line with a hall-of-fame centerman in Doug Gilmour, and a borderline hall of famer in Dave Andreychuk. Neely And Shanan were both much better players, and that is not even debateable. And Tocchet to me was better because he could actually pass the puck and play defense.

Clark played parts of 3 years with Gilmour, Neely had Janney, Oates, Bourque, Poulin, Sweeney et al, and Tocchet played wih Howe,Kerr, Sutters, Propp Brind'Amour, Mellanby, Zezel, Lemieux, Francis, Gretzky, et al. None of the 3 you mentioned were as devastating as Clark at hitting or fighting. And if Clark had better players and less injury he would have posted better numbers.

BTW, Tocchet and Clark fought each other once in their careers and Rick Tocchet won the fight pretty clean. Another that is funny is Clark was a serial sucker-artist, he ALWAYS jumped people. If he was European, a guy like you'd be calling for his head

Tocchet was holding on at the end and even went down to a knee. You're one of those people who think Clark jumped players when they weren't looking. WRONG! Clark made a lot of heavys look ordinary and was a much stronger skater than Tocchet. Clark was the fastest to get his gloves off and KO's of Maley, Mackey, Barr, May, etc are legendary. His fights usually lasted 5 seconds. And if anything Tocchet jumped Clark.

Define defense for a forward except for the centreman? Stay with your point man, keep yourself between him and the goalie. If Clark didn't do that, then you are very naive. Neely was booted out of Vancouver and Shanny was highly touted and a good player but not near as reckless as the other 3. Neely fought Clark and was too afraid to drop the gloves!

I can see where this is going. You're one of these fight guys. Shanny was VASTLY more talented than Clark and so was Neely. Clark was a slugger with a scoring touch. Neely and Shanahan were superstars, indisputable hall of fame players. Tocchet was every bit as tough as Clark was and unlike Clark, he was durable. Defense? Clark was positionally lousy his whole career. He was a great guy to have to just bulldoze people when forechecking, but he was a shitty abck checker

Clark played half the games of all 3 and still had over 300 goals. Shanny is a great palyer but not near as strong on his skates as Neely and Clark. Tocchet wasn't durably defence, he had vets playing unlike Clark in the 80's with 4 18 year olds. Now go back to sleep useless, you thought you knew some thing but it's obvious you don't.

Couldn't pass to save his life, as I pointed out the guy was positionally atrocious as a defender, it was not hard to elude him. He was a shitty puckhandler as well. And yes I would take a prime Clark without injuries anyday over the others. Clark was devastating and at 5'11" he had no problem going with the toughest in Probert. 46 goals in 64 games playing with Cullen and Borschevski, NOT Gilmour and Andreychuk.

late hits have nothing to do with the number of passes. the rule is that you have to be within like 3 strides of the player when he passes it, for it to be on-time
