  • I've never seen anything like that tree. Thanks.

  • your dogs name is toby?

  • @samstterhamstteer Yeah :) he used to be mine but then my dad had to move somewhere that doesn't let you have dogs so we had to give him to uncle and auntie :)

  • Toby was one of the best parts of this video!

  • I must have read My Side of the Mountain a hundred times when I was a kid.

    Love your videos, man!

  • WOW what a tree....and WOW that smoker attempt looks great, It's something that I've never had a go at. I would like to have a go at making some Jerky. The mut seemed to be enjoying himself and not that interested in the Salmon lol.....

  • Incredible tree! what a find.

    That salmon looks tasty too!

  • omfg you found the gummi bears hideout.

  • LOL! Good one!!!

  • Was that tree hollowed out by termites?

  • No it looks like natural dry rot. Bugs probably played a part in it but I don't think they would have caused it. Cedar is also very prone to core rot which is strange because cedar wood is very resistant to rotting.

  • So would you say this could be a feasible place to stay in, or could a 900 lbs chunk squish you in your sleep?

  • LOL! I'm gonna have to say that further research is required on that one, my first impression was that it looked safe. When I get back there I'll look into that though.

  • That's one heck of a tree! If you told the story, I wouldn't believe you - but it's on video. That would be my home - no tent for me.

  • mmmmm......... tasty! nice vid!

  • I do smoke/cook my salmon at the side of the fire (Ray Mears way) but I don't slice it since I buy thiner pieces. You might speed up smoking process if you cut it on even smaller pieces.

  • If you have a video or you have the Ray Mears vid handy could you post it as a reply? I am going to try this a few more times after I do some more research. Thanks!

P.S: the ironic thing about this is that I have a commercial smoker that can do 500 pounds of product at once in my shop and yet I still have to sit by a fire and "play". :P

  • It is not that you have to but You want to and you enjoy in to it.

  • Thanks! I wish every day could be like that.

Wet cedar chips sounds like a good idea I'll try that next time.

  • I absolutely love this vid ..I would make a little hide away ...and also love smoke salmon .Wet ceder shavings work real good !

  • Great vid I enjoyed watching it, yeah that tree was a great find, talk about a ready made shelter hehe 5/5

  • That was great. Bet the dog wanted a taste too, mine would.

  • That's a man cave!

  • No need for a debris hut for you

  • WOW, Nice tree find!

  • Good stuff Jordan .

  • looks like a great day out with your bud.
