  • Excellent! Reminds me of when My sister and I sang such songs while doing the dinner dishes many years ago, alas. Keep singing!!

  • OMG Yes!!! Love it up to death. I love it.

  • Just wonderful--do you have this on your CD? And have you ever performed all of the song as it appears in _The Man Who Would Be King_?

  • In spite of the fact that this was used in a movie about Sarah Palin--that ridiculous, ignorant, hypocritical, substance-free epitome of what the American electorate has become--the performance here is not only worthwhile, but cheering...nice to know at least a few younger people are carrying it on.

  • The begining isn`t the Minstrel boy at all, it is The Son Of God Goes Forth To War, a cheap British rip off of the Minstrely boy. None the less beatuiful singing girls.

  • my favourite movie is the man who would be king... and EVERYONE disagrees that the minstrel boy is the last song sean connery sings!

  • is this not the same tune as minstrel boy?

  • they sing so nice :) but i am sure their voice remind me middle age musics

  • Beautiful job ladies, thanks for sharing

  • nice voices :)

what makes the vid awesome is the tobagen the girl on the right is wearing, lol.

  • @C0wb0yBebop the hat is called a toque, a toboggan is a wooden sled.

  • Great job ladys!.Love this old tune..and it brought a tear to my eye.

  • What a sweet way to end my evening. I'm so glad i found this. Like and subscribe I think :)

  • Good effort. Seriously,

  • Wow love it , beutiful harmonics beutiful attitude, fair dues to your Mam and Dad for sharing their feelings with you, and to you for absorbing them and taking them as your own. Again wow, truly innocent. Thanks

  • I know Ive commented in the past, but you girls are well better than the first on the list for this search. You girls are so solemn and emotionally exact on the song that you girls should get first spot on search. I love you girls for this.

  • cannot find the scene, where sean connery is singing this song in the film "the man who would be king" . whould like to hear his version again..-)) i thought it is a scottish song, cause connery is a true scot!)) but it´s an original irish air!

  • Best version of this song ever. Much as I like Amhrán na bhFiann, I think Ireland missed out not making this their national anthem. Out of curiosity, why did you attach that verse from "The Son of God Goes Forth to War" on the beginning?

  • eye and ear candy.

  • You both have lovely, clear voices. Keep singing.!

  • Found ths video after hearing the song in the film The Undefeated. Beautiful rendition of a beautiful song. God bless and bring success to the work of your hands.

  • This song was on The Undefeated ya know the movie about Sarah Palin

  • Only matched my Miles O'Brien in the Wounded, truly magical.

  • I got a chance to see Stephen Bannon's movie about Goveror Sarah Palin, "The Undefeated" and this song was very moving as they showed scenes of the young Sarah Palin and her family.

    Nice.

  • @Sapwolf I'm glad you like the song. Would you be able to tell me whether a different version of the minstrel boy was used in the movie or whether the director used our version as played above?

  • @shuber I saw the film. It was similar, but not exactly like yours. Everyone has been trying to find the exact version, so that's how some of us found you. God bless you girls. Beautiful voices.

  • @Sapwolf ditto !!!

  • Excellent Job Girls! I love this song! Do you all know In the Gloaming?

  • Excellent Job Girls! I love this song!

  • I cry every time..... just cant fight the irish in me..... probly just at well.

May the road rise to meet you both

  • wowww ....i like that

  • may i start by staying splendid show by both of you trully excellent.

but i am curious why you started by singing "the son of god goes to war" from halfway through at the begining of the video?

    5* show though.

  • love this song! great voices! beautiful ladies!

  • Well done Ladies, your arrangement has inspired my brothers and I to cover your cover. I particularly like the tribute to the movie "The Man Who Would Be King"( one of the greatest movies of all time IMHO). Keep it up. do you think you'll ever do a cover of "Foggy Dew"? If so I'd love to hear it.

  • Well Done Version of Thomas Moore's Classic Melody !!! Also, Check out John McCormack's Version on You Tube !!!

  • Great!Your version of this song is the closest to how i think it's better to be executed, among the many i've heard.

  • that is so beautiful

  • i awaited some sort of bs, but this is outstanding

  • Lovely song - beautifully sung. You both seem so happy. :)

  • Can you put this song on Itunes? I love this match up, and a cappella Intro is awesome, gave me chills

  • Awesome version of Minstrel Boy! Especially the a cappella intro.

  • Awesome work!!! I hadnt heard the first few verses before, I do a cover of this song as well. Its so much fun to play!! Keep up the good work. Gave you a like to boost your ratings!

  • You girls are not only gorgeous but also so talented. I am so glad you got a CD out, I am on iTunes getting it right away.

You girls are inspiring! I can see how different you both are and even so, you come so well together when singing! I wish you so much success!!! God Bless!!!

Here, there and everywhere by the both of you got to sound awesome!

  • i love the part when she looks at u all akward and u keep a straight face

  • Comment removed

  • Do you have plans of recording this version of "The Minstrel Boy," with the verse at the start?

  • Thanks for singing the first verse. Most don't.

  • what i the yr name(s) and the cd?

  • @ramron333 My name is Bailey (the one on the left) and my sister is named Piper (the one on the right). Our CD is called "Madaket" :)

  • @shuber thanks the cd sounds great i wouldnot hve recognised you from the cd cover photo tho

hope you dont mind the song suggestion

    all the best from scotland

  • @shuber What does Madekat mean?

  • @deerhunterp Madaket is the name of a beach on Nantucket island, where my sister and I spend a week every summer. A lot of our happiest memories growing up were made on Nantucket, and some of the most fun musical times we've had happened there, so when we were thinking of names for our band we wanted something to do with the island. :)

  • i know u dont do requests but the bonny boy is a beautiful tune not the version in the minor key BUT the superior working in the majorkey(all the lassies sing the minor one)

if u are interested type in phil coulter bonny boy

just a suggestion from a scottish fan

  • Great voices, but a little more stage presence!

  • Wondrous fine ladies! Bravo!

  • Beautiful!!!!

  • I would like to know more what these women feel about about what theyre singing

  • Thank you ladies very well done!

  • I have heard many versions. Yours is the most simple, most pure, and I believe the most in keeping with its original intent. Well done indeed.

  • beautiful

    Thank you

  • In real life, do they actually play the "Son of god goes forth to war" to the Minstrel Boy, or was it only in the movie "The Man who would be king" that they got it from?

  • Beautiful singing!

  • This is beautiful. I thank you for all Irishmen. This song is one of the most irish things ever written.

  • I Loved your performance.

The man who would be a king is one of my favorites too.

  • terrific job!

  • Beautiful song ladies. Thank you.

  • made me shiver

  • @TehCheese: This tune WAS used by the British army, though under the name of "The Son of God Goes Forth to War," as can be seen in the film The Man Who Would Be King (starring Michael Caine and Sean Connery - perhaps the best 'buddy picture' ever made).

It was commonplace for an old melody to have new lyrics added at the time (basically up until the late 19th century). "God Save the [Queen]" turned into "My Country 'Tis of Thee." "To Anacreon in Heaven" turned into "The Star Spangled Banner."

  • Absolutely beautiful rendition, ladies. You've brought a tear to an Irish man's eye.

  • Do Yankees have ANY patriotic song that wasn't stolen from the British Empire???

The original version of this song, written by Thomas Moore, was sung while the White House was set ablaze by the British and Canadian Army in 1814.

But I have to admit.... it is a very nice rendition. :-)

  • @amy930 Thy songs were made for the pure and free.

  • @amy930 Ehhh what? I think you'll find its an Irish song, about an Irish Rising against the British Empire. And if the British did sing it, its the HEIGHT of hypocrisy and I'd expect nothing less from the British

  • @amy930 Its an irish song fool, and we have lots of patriotic songs Proud to Be an american, battle hymn of the republic, america the beautiful, anchors aweigh, Ballad of the green berret, Stars and stripes forever, Marine hymn, ect.

  • @amy930 If anything it's an ANTI-British song written about an Irish Rebellion against the British Empire in the late 1700's.

  • These two great ladies are absolutely excellent! I love this combination of the two fantastic songs! I have never heard a better version of each song and love their voices. It would be great if they could sing a complete version of "The son of God goes forth to war" utilizing this melody. I would love to buy a CD. Nevertheless, I am truly grateful for this video and it is number one on my favorite list - very good for inspiration and self-motivation. All the best to "Shuber" and her sister!

  • Beautiful. Just beautiful. I haven't been able to hear this song since it was performed with full military honors at my father's funeral many years ago, but your version has brought it back into my life.

    Thank you.

  • @A10thunderbolt This

  • Pretty! : )

  • you guys are amazing i loved this cover keep it going

  • Beautiful rendition of a magnificent song.

  • The Minstrel Boy, one of my favorite songs ever. Written by Thomas Moore for three of his friends and set to an ancient tune called the Moreen.

There's a monument to him at The Meeting of the Waters near my house on the spot where he wrote... 'The Meeting of the Waters.'

This is excellently sung, well done ladies. Pat each other on the back.

    Cool hat by the way.

  • Bravo. I can't say how swell this is.

  • tears beautiful

  • oddly enuff you two are the best cover of this ive found on Utube- deep space 9, man who would be king, blackhawk down, firefly - all miss the essence of the song

  • Wow !! You are both so talented, beautiful music, beautifully played and sung, thank you for sharing.

  • Beautiful! I hope to hear this song sung so beautifully on my death bed someday.

  • I echo bobcat395

Your father must be very proud of you both - I'm sure I would be.

  • Absolutely beautiful, Please do another with both songs sung in their entirety. I would really like to hear "The Son of God" sung to the "Minstrel Boy" tune.

  • When I first heard this song I was pretty young. My best friend, my brother send me this song when I had a pretty ruff time..

The first girl I really loved who was cheating on me.

When my friend sent me this song I had this feeling.. A strange feeling. I cant really explain it, but I get the same feeling when I hear you sing. Thank you, very much.

  • Nice work, MWWBK is an awesome film too ;)

  • :O this makes me feel a bit weepy.

You're both excellent singers- the girl on the right is a fantastic alto! Great harmonies. :)

  • BEAUTIFUL beyond words! By far, my favourite version of this tune...EVER. Great harmonies, gals!

  • I usually don't expect much when people sing on Youtube....but I have to say. This was simply amazing. You've got talent!

  • Most heartfelt rendition of this I have ever heard.

  • Great Job!!! i'm a police ofificer and i've heard that many times at funerals... beautiful voices and i would be honored to have you sing that for a fallen officer

  • Outstanding!!!!! my pipe band plays this tune and my celtic band does an acoustic version. None of us sing it as well though. Great nod to an incredible movie.

  • id love to meet these chicks and just say hi. pretty and talented.

  • Nice nod to the Man who Would be King my favorite movie. Nice to see people my age can appreciate not only the Movie but the tune as well. Nice job.

  • Beautfully sung by two beautiful girls -- the most lovely version available, IMHO.

  • I still love this video! 5/5!!! No if, ands, or buts about it!

  • i think the girl on the right was nervous she kept moving

  • Ladies, you are a fantastically talented pair with a bright future in music if you wish it

  • Very nice thank you

  • It feels vaguely disturbing when people named Jack the Ripper comments on female beauty... Not sure why, though.

    Anywho... You girls rock!

  • amazing voices

    spellbinding

    wonderful harmony

    in one word... WOW

  • What a beautiful voice. I got chills.

  • Well done! Celtic music and Christ, my two passions put together! The Son of God goes forth to war...and to victory, even on a cross, for me, His one-time enemy! I also like Hail the King, done to the tune of the Jacobite tune in honor of Prince Charlie. The White Cockade, I think. You two would do a great job on that, I think.

  • aww this is lovely!

    Your voices are beautiful :)

I did the minstrel boy for my grade 7

  • Nice job ladies!

  • I've listened to this 8 times in a row now and that's only since I started counting.

It's so beautiful. I'm actually crying. Just incredible.

  • my brother thinks your both hot and you sing pretty

  • A nice performance of a nice song.

You have good voices and this is over all lovely to listen to, but it seems you're not doing the best you can, if I may say so. As it is now you just kind of sing the song and you both look a bit deatched (especially the right one). You could work on the musical phrasing of your song a bit more to make it sound more "professional", but then again, the slight bohemic, everyday feel to your performance is also what makes it so good!

  • Awesome songs, both of them. Also, that is a great movie. It has recently become one of my favorites.

  • the son of god goes forth to war a king lay crowned to cain his blood red banner streams afar who follows in his trail.... supposeing if i were to ask you as a stranger going to the west to seek for that which was lost, what would you say then?

  • you guys have great voices man! awesome song too

  • beautiful song, voices and girls. is there an album?

  • Yep, there's one in the works. :) I post updates every now and again with new videos.

  • Beautiful. But I have a feeling that youtube's audio still doesn't do you two justice. You should really get some good studio gear.

  • Thats a fantastic version!

  • I can't stop listening to this. You two have beautiful voices.

  • The Minstrel Boy is one of my favourite songs. When I am on patrol in our Armoured Carrier I sing this to the lads. Nicely done ladies.

  • nice job! - Frank Shekosky

  • Very good, suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper, Grüße aus Deutschland!!!

  • I LIKE!!!

    bravissimo!

    =D

  • ai theres talent there alright

  • The voices of angels. I cried so much at the end of that movie. Can you get me a mp3 of the song by you guys or someone else?

  • Very well done. Performed, no doubt, for the sake of a widow's son.

  • Sounds great ladies...THANK YOU for this cause it's from one of my favorite 'oldy' films, Connery & Caine. I play this for my son in the morn...

  • Wbat beautiful harmonies! You are both very gifted. Keep singing! :) Marina

  • fantastic

  • YO YO YO! THAT WAS THE DOPEST SONG EVER!!! I WOULD TOTALY MARRY THAT GIRL IN THE FUNNY HAT!!!! I have a friend that is really good at singing and stufff... but the girl on the left would totaly kick her ass

  • Benji, you're a moron but I love you.

  • What? He's not a moron! That's the nicest thing i've ever heard!

Anyhow, let's do that one song from almost famous. Guess which one of us is going to be Pete Droge! :)

    Love!

  • Piper, his message began with the phrase "YO YO YO." Not the greatest indication of intellectual aptitude.

And for ONCE could I PLEASE be the GIRL when we do a duet? Poop.

  • well the lower harmony is a bit trickier than the higher one. and the man also gets more verses. I'd be willing to trade!

  • HA! I bet you would.

  • Amazing.

  • You girls rock! Seperetly you are awsome but together you left me spechles! Great job an God bless you all! Erin Go Bragh!

  • One of the best version I have heard.

  • for some reason whenever I hear a good rendition of this song it puts me in the mood to scrap. of course I could say the same about Fields of Athenry, and most rebellion songs LOL. You girls sounded great.

  • hate to tell you its a song of war and it was meant to raise moralle so u just listening to it. well done.

girls beautifully sang i love it.

  • I hate to say it but most of the best Irish songs are songs of rebellion. Maybe because they spent 700 years under the British foot. but then again I absolutely love living history, I spent several years in an Irish group and then started in with Imperial German. You might expect Germen songs to be Darker, but most are so much more light hearted than Irish stuff. If you want to read some disturbing lyrics to a German war song look up " look out farmer here I come". Damn the "character count".

  • got to agree and i hate to say it but i am against english troops been in ireland. but thts my feelings. i dont know any german songs i know irish english scottish and australian folk music as these are popular and also because they are countries that have influenced me by their history.

  • sooo beautiful, too !

Hope you soon will do more vids together. Its so refreshing

  • Wow! You two are awesome! Great job on the harmony

  • 10 out of ten get on telly!!
