sounds more like a NY Italian-American accent (i.e. Robert De Niro). the way Hugh Laurie's character always overreacts to Stephen Fry's character is hilarious!
I love Americans and their fake nationalities, although weirdly it only really happens with Italian and Irish. you don't get Americans going around saying "well, it's in my blood, I'm German," for some unfathomable reason.
@GaearAdan don't be so hasty to smack your own face, I can stop you committing violence against yourself by explaining:
there are a lot of Americans on this video saying that they're "Italian," and the video is titled "Italian brothers." I'm assuming Fry and Laurie didn't call it that, they're too intelligent. and yes, I know they're British.
Hugh is close to the accent, Stephen, um, not quite. It would be nice if people didn't use videos like this as a chance to criticize Americans (as several posts do). What's the point, really? It's a comedy sketch.
Not only that, those two ironize almost perfectly the way americans talk in the movies always the same vulgar terms and obscene language aswell, the humor and the irony here rule.
@UnfoldingWings Arms are important? Never even thought that. Rolled up my sleeves and it seems to be working, although I mustn't when doing surgery - nurses become faint. lol
"wh-wha-what am i doin? im sittin here eatin my dinna, and you dumb questions!" lol i love hugh laurie:) nails each charater. stephan and hugh are AWSOME here!!
@UndefeatableTwilight Well it was pretty obvious from the beginning that he was an Englishman doing a New York accent, at least to my American ears. Neither of them really get the accent right (Laurie was a bit better though), but it doesn't stop the clip from being very funny.
Absolutely brilliant. :-))) Also, Laurie's short clip on the end is perfect. It makes you to believe, he is diffident, nerdy and slightly stupid... Or his face at 1:44 when he says "we have the same sister..." - just brilliant.
This is a spoof of the movie Raging Bull by Martin Scorcese. There's a scene between DeNiro and Pesce where DeNiro accuses Pesce of sleeping with his wife (as usual).
I do as well. You mean Italian American? Because yeah, they're pretty bad but it's incredibly amusing. I love those...men. I was going to say boys. XD
no, i dont think so, is the one where he goes "...and my sister and i were put into care and now im homeless..." basically, he says he smoked pot and he was arrested and one thing led to the next and now he's homeless. help me find it please!
I LOOOVVVE this couple of genius. It was a shame that outside Britain we didn't know this show until the House thing. These brothers look more italo-american than italian, here in Italy these greasy dudes are extinct, But still they caught some undying points of the national temperament: sex-food-hair obsession.
Haven't really heard that many Russians but (please don't by any means think I am just grouping Eastern Europeans together here!) I have a Polish friend who we were trying to get to say Irish phrases (as in Gaelic Irish, not English!) and she rolled the 'R's in such a funny way :-D We *never* do that in Irish, it just made the word sound Polish :)
Well... it's hard to say whether it's difficult to learn or not! I think it's just badly taught to be honest... I've been learning it since I was 5 and I still amn't near fluent. I've been learning French properly since I was 13 and I feel much more competant speaking French. But Irish is such a beautiful language :-) It just has weird rules and stuff.
"But Irish is such a beautiful language :-) It just has weird rules and stuff." and that's what makes it unique and interesting... and it's the language of the people who invented celtic music and ... whiskey! so I MUST learn it lol
Actually that's the whole thing. They used to do mini-sketches between the longer ones. The characters in them recurred in other mini-sketches though.
Not as much as the woman does, but yes, the "R"s are enphasized.. By the way, more than Italian, they're Italo/Amercian (e.g. Soprano's and and the like...) You don't find Italians like that in Italy anymore!...
yeah, that's because we use the words with R and RR (doble r), and both sounds hard, but when the R (just one) is in the middle of a word, it's gonna sound sweet, anyway this is awesome!! i love Hugh *_*
pretty sure they do those accents better than I could, and I already start out with an American accent and tons of eps of The Sopranos watched...darn.
