Simply the best....and I'm not toon. I have lived thru beckenbaur, maradona, gascoigne and now messi but Peter tops the lot. By the way, who's the bog eye presenter?
One eye looking at you, the other looking for you....
Beardo! An absolute legend and incredibly talented footballer. In my eyes a category all in its own containing the likes of John Barnes and Matt Le Tissier.
He is already great but imagine if Beardsley came along 1 or 2 generations later. He would have the acclaim worldwide that he truly deserves.
A truly great footballer, the ball looks like it sticks to his foot when he's dribbling. That degree of control is only seen in the greats. Gascoine, Dalglish, Waddle all had it. How often do we see it now?
Peter Beardsley once said, "Kenny Dalgiesh never fancied me as a player"
After watching this, and all the breathtaking goals he scored for Kenny in a red shirt (you can say whatever you want, you cannot find a player in the same league of Beardsley in this day and age) I would say Kenny was ON ACID when he decided to flog him to Everton
A Story Part 4! The rest is history! Andy Cole! Back in the England team! Fantastic goals and even more important one of the best team player's you'll ever see! God bless a Gentleman and a Geordie!
A Story! Part 3! So you get the fever back and then its back to reality of winning sod all and loyality! Sell your best players blah blah! Sound familar? Summer 1993 walking down Northumberland St. I'm approached in a fanatical manner, it's Terry my mate,'He's back', 'Who', 'God', 'Yes','Beardsley?' Fuck me there is hope!
A Story! Part 2! My old man loved his football, part time, sunday league, refereeing etc . But as fate would have it our re-bonding sessions would be cut short within a week or so when he passed away but I know have loved the little fella as much as me! The best footballer I've ever seen! (The Little Argentina fella ain't bad either!)
A Story! February 1984 on a sunday afternoon come home worse for wear after a session on the pop, remember 2 o'clock last orders.? I'd never been to a Newcastle match in 5/6 years (?) , not even Keegan coming back as a player got me interested. Then one of those great moments in life, correct me if I'm wrong. The ITV prog. 'Shoot' was on over (veg) sunday dinner and THAT moment at 0.44!
7:06 - I was at that game! It was the 1994/1995 season and Toon were playing Crystal Palace. The game was heading for 0-0 until th e89th minute when Beardsley got the ball. It was fucking bedlam when he scored...
Beardsley is my favourite toon player of all time. I wish we had him (in his prime) in our team now - mind if we did, that stupid fat fucking cockney fucking bastard Ashley would have sold him by now.
Makes you realise what a horrible state 'modern' football is in. Rooney's goal is now considered the 'greatest' ever! What a joke! Today's players are not naturally talented anymore, anyway they are more interested in making millions, shrewing sluts & showing off their moronic tatoos then anything else. True footballers & gentlemen like Beardsley are gone forever. God he was a joy to watch. Gerard, Rooney, Messi etc are not in the same league, they're 'cool', that's what makes them popular now!
My all time favourite player..... As a Villa fan I wish he had played for us, I remember when he scored against us it took all my will power not to jump up and cheer.
True legend and a top bloke, an ambassador to the game. I wish we still had English talent and flair like this.
In the recent climate of previously great International teams lacking their previous flair, an English team of the early 90's players like Beardo, Barnes, Gazza, Waddle, Shearer etc. could quite easily go 1 step furthar than they managed in 90' and win the World Cup.
I wish they could have added a World Cup to their portfolios, they deserve it.
A magician who also made Andy Cole and resurrected Lineker's england career..Makes today's so called "skill" players,Rooney,Gerrard etc look like donkeys..Saw the only game gascoigne, beardsley and waddle played together ..what could have been..
Loved Beardsley at Liverpool in his pomp. Class act with John Barnes.
