  • Doesn't hydrochloride work just as well but faster? you could filter the chlorine gas with water

  • oooh, my friend tried this too: /watch?v=PtxMzc-TZjg

  • Just amazing idea, man. I think this would lessen the voice pitch much like Helium, won't it?

  • I know this sounds stupid, but is Hydrogen significantly lighter than Helium, or just barely?

  • @crazymike65 helium is twice heavier than hydrogen, but much safer to use. :)

  • What is the chemical equation for "NaOH and Al" I know your probably busy, but if you could find time to answer, I'd be very thankful, thanks!

  • To all those who dont know... The fastest, easiest, and cheapest way to make hydrogen balloons is to put muriatic acid (a common form of HCl that can be found at any hardware store) in a glass soda bottle with crumpled aluminum foil and put balloon over the bottle's neck. To avoid shattered glass, use one bottle per balloon. Have a nice day :D

  • @sil3ntsp3ct3r That's erectonium..Ask KipKay.

  • You might want to peek back at that periodic table in the foreground. H2 is helium & not combustible. Hydrogen is H1, the very first element listed on the chart, and very combustible.

  • @counterpunch101 H2 is not Helium, Helium is He. H2 means two hydrogen atoms bonded together (Hydrogen gas is only found in bonds, It makes them more stable).

  • @MarioKartFan2132 You are absolutely correct. While hydrogen can't form hydrogen bonds with itself it does bond covalently. Great job. I've been using muriatic acid & tin foil. It so exothermic thou it fractures my glassware even while in ice water. The reason I do it this way is b/c with the NaOH it seems to take forever. Any suggestions to incorporate some speed in the NaOH Rx or how to keep the glass from fragging?

  • @counterpunch101 You might want to go back to school! Idiot!!

  • @kw757 What's your problem homo? Don't be full of so much hate. Don't be so mad at the world. I'm sure your boyfriend will be over to pound you soon. It's amazing how badass you are... at your keyboard.

  • what is the quickest way to make hydrogen?

  • Comment removed

  • so is this water and aluminium that makes hydrogen?

  • @MegaGamer30001

sodium hydroxide not water you can use water put you need electricity to seperate the hydrogen bong

  • @pauls0416 yeah but it's hard to collect into a balloon etc...

  • I prefer to make my hydrogen by electrolysis of pure water... you don't need to use any caustic chemicals or any metals, just pure distilled water! And it's so clean that you can inhale it without damaging your lungs! LOL

  • @pauls0416 You can do that? What material would react to water so that the hydrogen would release?

  • @yumenokoyume Yeah, the way you make hydrogen from pure water, without dangerous chemicals is with a PEM electrolyzer, which is basically a fuel cell working in reverse. The only problem is they're expensive.

  • Francium PLZ

  • Dude.... Use sodium in water....

  • Do electrolysis and mix both the hydrogen AND oxygen collected, BIGGER boom.

  • 1:30... my ears got raped.

  • you know this actually also works if the candle is placed next to the balloon which is way more impressive

  • ye, hcl and zn work a lot better.

fill that shit with strontium or copper, its really cool

  • React Hydrochloric acid with magnesium metal . i think its better ,

  • hydrochloric acid

  • hi . Can i Know . Does Any Hydrochloric Acid Reacts With aluminium ?? I Ordered One From Ebay . The Name Is Hydrochloric Acid 1:500 16 oz Does It Reacts With aluminium

  • Comment removed

  • It may explode, but will it blend?

  • does this produces hydrogen?

    I coud believe HCl + Al does it but, NaOH + Al? Na + Al + H2 + O2 ? I don't believe

  • @cocorrancho 2Al + 2NaOH + 6H2O → 2Na+ + 2[Al(OH)4]- + 3H2

  • Cool video!

I've tired to do this experiment, but it haven't succed, because i couldn't product enough hydrogen to let fly the balloon so high. And the reaction between sodium hydroxide and Al-foil was so exotermic, the balloon were getting warmer and warmer and I couldn't hold the balloon on top of the Erlenmeyer Flask. The ballon grasped some hydrogen, because it flied up (but just a little bit)! The ballon was smaller than that I've seen in your video.

  • what water you put it hot or cold?

  • Great video!

  • The explosion sounds just like firing deagle in counter strike

  • just use "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner and put aluminum foil in it, the same reaction will occur

  • @MrStreetRipper The Works Toilet Bowl Cleaner ? I Can't Find It In Singapore

  • Comment removed

  • can give me some hydrogen acid ?

  • We did this at school, the glass windows wobbled like they were made of rubber.

  • exploziunz!

  • would work same if you had the baloon inflated by helio gas

  • Comment removed

  • @SupraMc2 either you are a troll or you dont know that helium is an inert gas and wont react with anything else. so an explosion wouldn't happen

  • i think using an acid would be better

  • Reactions between HCl and Al always become out of control.

  • can I use a drainage cleaner instead? that's sodium hydroxide solution, right?

  • yes

  • coolness...!

  • where can we find sodium hydroxide?

  • drain cleaner

  • draino is sodium hydroxide

  • i was always excited by Hydrogen and hydrogen filled Balloon...thanks for your interesting experiment

  • Why not HCl + Zn? Or NaOH + Al is cheaper :)? I think the first I mentioned produces more H2 gas, or doesn't it?

  • Al is cheaper than Zn, AND, because of its lighter atomic weight, yields more H2 per mass unit.

However, you can also make hydrogen by the "acidic" way, using HCl (hydrochloric or muriatic acid) and Al foil; don't use sulfuric or nitric acids, for the will not dissolve the passive oxide layer created in Al. The chloride ions WILL dissolve the layer, making more and more hydrogen gas.

  • Woah! that's awesome!

  • sodium hydroxide is in the works toilet bowl cleaner used to make the works bomb

  • we did this in science!!!

my teacher is nuts........with magnesium he set the paper bin alight blocking the classes only exit.........lol

  • hey cool! very high quality!!! Check out my hdrogen-experiment(s)
