To all those who dont know... The fastest, easiest, and cheapest way to make hydrogen balloons is to put muriatic acid (a common form of HCl that can be found at any hardware store) in a glass soda bottle with crumpled aluminum foil and put balloon over the bottle's neck. To avoid shattered glass, use one bottle per balloon. Have a nice day :D
You might want to peek back at that periodic table in the foreground. H2 is helium & not combustible. Hydrogen is H1, the very first element listed on the chart, and very combustible.
@counterpunch101 H2 is not Helium, Helium is He. H2 means two hydrogen atoms bonded together (Hydrogen gas is only found in bonds, It makes them more stable).
@MarioKartFan2132 You are absolutely correct. While hydrogen can't form hydrogen bonds with itself it does bond covalently. Great job. I've been using muriatic acid & tin foil. It so exothermic thou it fractures my glassware even while in ice water. The reason I do it this way is b/c with the NaOH it seems to take forever. Any suggestions to incorporate some speed in the NaOH Rx or how to keep the glass from fragging?
@kw757 What's your problem homo? Don't be full of so much hate. Don't be so mad at the world. I'm sure your boyfriend will be over to pound you soon. It's amazing how badass you are... at your keyboard.
I prefer to make my hydrogen by electrolysis of pure water... you don't need to use any caustic chemicals or any metals, just pure distilled water! And it's so clean that you can inhale it without damaging your lungs! LOL
@yumenokoyume Yeah, the way you make hydrogen from pure water, without dangerous chemicals is with a PEM electrolyzer, which is basically a fuel cell working in reverse. The only problem is they're expensive.
hi . Can i Know . Does Any Hydrochloric Acid Reacts With aluminium ?? I Ordered One From Ebay . The Name Is Hydrochloric Acid 1:500 16 oz Does It Reacts With aluminium
I've tired to do this experiment, but it haven't succed, because i couldn't product enough hydrogen to let fly the balloon so high. And the reaction between sodium hydroxide and Al-foil was so exotermic, the balloon were getting warmer and warmer and I couldn't hold the balloon on top of the Erlenmeyer Flask. The ballon grasped some hydrogen, because it flied up (but just a little bit)! The ballon was smaller than that I've seen in your video.
Al is cheaper than Zn, AND, because of its lighter atomic weight, yields more H2 per mass unit.
However, you can also make hydrogen by the "acidic" way, using HCl (hydrochloric or muriatic acid) and Al foil; don't use sulfuric or nitric acids, for the will not dissolve the passive oxide layer created in Al. The chloride ions WILL dissolve the layer, making more and more hydrogen gas.
Doesn't hydrochloride work just as well but faster? you could filter the chlorine gas with water

I know this sounds stupid, but is Hydrogen significantly lighter than Helium, or just barely?
crazymike65 3 weeks ago
@crazymike65 helium is twice heavier than hydrogen, but much safer to use. :)

What is the chemical equation for "NaOH and Al" I know your probably busy, but if you could find time to answer, I'd be very thankful, thanks!

sodium hydroxide not water you can use water put you need electricity to seperate the hydrogen bong

@pauls0416 yeah but it's hard to collect into a balloon etc...

@pauls0416 You can do that? What material would react to water so that the hydrogen would release?

does this produces hydrogen?
I coud believe HCl + Al does it but, NaOH + Al? Na + Al + H2 + O2 ? I don't believe
