  • Someone can't claim to be humble if they claim to "just know" the nature of the universe through faith. Christianity isn't humble. Why do people look to it to teach them about humility?

  • @phenomballer666

No, a man can't be humble if he seeks to make himself a god, which is what the Godless man seeks. Since this is so, nothing can be given to this man, he must take all that he seeks by conquest, including his knowledge. Thus he knows because he is intelligent and discerning, because of his own personal greatness, not because it is given to him by an act of grace. When anyone else claims to know anything, he interprets the statement according to that same model of conquest.

  • I thought it a good read the book "Mere Christianity". I wonder if Non Christians would think that I'm saying that because I am a Christian and I just like things simply because they are Christian. Actually I do not. I find most Christian books to either not be very Christian or not written very well or sometimes they are beyond my reading level. I think it would be the same for Non Christians. I'm sure not every Non Christian loves every Non Christian book.

  • But anywho enough of the disclaimer, as I said, I think it a great read. I think it has something to say for both Christians and Non Christians and I think it's quite possible that neither shall like to hear it. Though sometimes the best medicines are the most bitter. Have you read "The Problem of Pain" also by C.S Lewis?

I have not but I think I would find it interesting as I think the problem of suffering one of the trickier subjects in not just Christianity but just life in general.

  • You are beautiful. Oh, on the surface too.

  • @lifein2011 It was meant to be :)

  • @Trackstud9 Oh dear heavens. Thank you, but no, the world needs more God, not more me.

  • @RogueBlueJay Hahahah I was addicted to that show for the longest time but then I just stopped.. Totally lost now :P

    @nezpercenathan touche

  • Oh my goodness. You're great.

  • Is it wrong to say that at the end, when you looked into the camera, you looked like a psychopath? I think it was the smile… Kind of creepy.

I loved the passage though, it was really nice. You're so awesome, one of my favorite youtubers I must say.

  • We MUST be Humble before Jesus...

You loved Him in the New Testament, now you can enjoy him on a delicious breakfast food!!!

Google "Freedom Haters Jesus Christ on Toast" today!!!

Open your mind, save your soul, and PASS THE JAM!!!

  • There's something special about you. Way more than meets the eye. =)

  • I am related to C.S. Lewis

  • @ChloeJoySchneider You're related to C.S. Lewis? Awesome! How?

  • @lifein2011 By marriage. I believe he married like my great great great aunt on my mothers side of the family.

  • I think that everyone's gonna think that this applies to them at one point or another

  • Trying to think what I think of this. I'm sure I agree with him, that a humble person is not someone who is always telling you they are nobody. I'm also sure I disagree that someone humble will necessarily be intelligent or come across as intelligent, I'm sure someone with learning disabilities could be humble, while not being "clever" in the worlds eyes. The rest I'm thinking about. Is humility the same as dying to self? Maybe. I'm not sure. Thinking... Probably....Possibly....

  • @sepiasunrise I love your thoughts. I think he mentions intelligence because in order to learn, you have to be humble. So humble people will naturally want to learn more? But I see your point, too, about people with learning disabilities. Hmm.

  • my brain esplode. that was pretty pretty!

  • You kind of rock by the way. ;)

I need to read all of C.S. Lewis stuff.

  • I love this passage

  • I guess we could say that it's impossible to be entirely humble all of the time, but I think that some people are indeed more humble about certain things. And I guess there needs to be some sort of way to balance being proud of an accomplishment and being humble about it at the same time.

  • Stay strong for your family for yourself and for the youtube watchers!!! Thank-you ever so much for makeing my day, love!

  • Paradox of paradoxes; look for the Way and it cannot be found....sigh....

  • @iSketch4you *hug* DFTBA

  • Every time I hear someone reading a quote or trying to make one up I feel like there looking at life through a window... humble not humble good or evil, it doesn't make a difference. People always praise talents they don't have themselves....

  • That was awesome, and so true!

  • <3

  • I love Narnia. Love Narnia so much!

  • what a intresting peas to pick to reed : )

  • If you like C.S. Lewis, you gotsta see Shadowlands.

  • @nezpercenathan I've been wanting to see Shadowlands for quite awhile now! :)

  • THIS IS MY FAVORITE. I honestly just read that today.

C S Lewis ,I look forward to meeting you.

  • Great excerpt! My mind is boggled by all the wisdom you share with us. Funny how the desire for humility ends up becoming an oxymoron after hearing this.

  • @DavidVlogs EXACTLY. Humility really does seem to be forgetting self. Which is...wow. So difficult.

  • you are so beautiful :)

  • I actually just started reading a biography on C.S. Lewis, what wonderful timing! :)

  • i love C. S Lewis! Yet another reason to love your channel. keep these up. Salt and light girl! your being both!!!!!

  • .......there's just nothing to add. beautiful...brilliant,...sincere

  • CS Lewis is just a boss!!! Dude just like was brilliance.

  • I love that book!!! :D Good REadings

  • "In peace there's nothing so becomes a man as modest stillness and humility" Shakespeare (Henry V)

  • Oh and when he talks about Christians essentially being soldiers in enemy territory. Also, when he writes about living as if the person you're shaping yourself into is the self you will have to endure for eternity.

  • That's a fantastic bit from Mere Christianity, definitely. Another brilliant piece is where he talks about the moral law.

  • I love Mere Christianity. :D This reminded me to go back and read it again.

  • Fantastic.

  • So much truth. One of my friends got me a B&N giftcard for my bday and I think I'm just gonna go buy some CS Lewis. ^_^

  • OMGSH this book is so wonderful

  • Comment removed

  • I just got done reading it the other night. Such a book to be able to turn our thoughts to self examanation and help us to see the simple joys of knowing God.

  • @onequarterbrit indeed! and what has been seen can not be unseen...

@lifein2011 i think you should just have your little sister besides you, that will make you look older ;3

  • I'm sorry to say, after yesterdays video, the ponytail makes you look younger than you are. ;)

  • @onequarterbrit Hahaha, ok, noted.

  • @onequarterbrit I thought the opposite! I thought it made her look older! Especially with the button-down shirt and jewellery :)

  • I remember when I first read that in Mere Christianity. I was so confused about how complex it really is to attempt to be humble, because *we* can't.

    I love C. S. Lewis ^_^

(Fun fact: "I" was featured 4 times in this comment. #lackofhumility)

  • @asimpleseed Exactly! It's so frustrating, and a continual struggle. :(

  • One of my favorite things ever said by Lewis, and I love a whole lot of the things he's said.

  • Once again you show your amazing talent, You think this video going to be all serious, but right at the end, you smile and it's not serious anymore.

  • I'd say that this quote still holds sway for the modern world of today. There's always those people who project themselves as being humble which is, ya know, the opposite of being humble lol. But I'd like to think that those that I know that are in fact humble are accurately described by this quote.

  • your voice does sound humble and clear in this!

  • Suddenly I'm depressed.

  • Amazing, I love this quote.

  • fantastic, my dear

you are not just another girl, you have something different

  • Pony tail!

  • You look just like Michelle Trachtenberg here

  • @FillingInTheSpaces You're right. I thought I'd just been watching too much buffy ;D

  • @FillingInTheSpaces Yeah, when she was in Buffy and was 14 years old! muahahha

  • @FillingInTheSpaces LIke Michelle Trachtenberg USED to look, for sure, but not so much now, since Michelle started doing MAXIM shoots, dying her hair, etc.

  • @FillingInTheSpaces Hahaha ok, thanks. I'll take that as a compliment.

  • @FillingInTheSpaces dude!! yes! I have been trying to figure out who she reminded me of since February!
