I really don't know what is considered a copyright infringement! A Movie, TV or Music video, that is something I would not upload. But a news clip from CNN, or CBS, when they have already You Tube channels? I even got a pink slip and I did not uploaded a TV show or something! It was a live event, which was claimed by third party. That's the bad news of having videos on YT. You could be violating a third party content, without knowledge!

Hey MoxNews, I think there's a way to forever eliminate the copyright claims against you (although I think it would be nice to hear what a lawyer says).
The DMCA allows you to post copyrighted works as long as it is used as a citation for a commentary. So, if you post a video and then edit in a line of dialogue, anything you post becomes "commentary". It's a bit of extra work, but it'll prevent you from losing your pages.

@whoo689 If those companies were allowed (and did in practice) to share their digital knowledge, rather than be SOO greedy that they protect 'industry secrets' just for the sake of a few billion dollars in possible lost revenue, we would all be so much better off. I think a copyright on a new invention for certain companies, or in general, for instance should only be about 5 years at the most. Then it's on the table for everyone else. 10 years max for books and other media.
The problems are with the msm and governments. Yes, you promote their product, but they receive no advertizement dollars when it is put on your channel. The msm fell behind on technology by not being on utube in the first place. The government hate the fact that the propaganda machines are becoming useless so they attack any channel that puts them in a bad light.
As a somewhat radical libertarian, I don't have much patience or respect for the corporatist case for "intellectual property" or copyrights or trademarks. CBC blocks all of their videos from being viewed by anyone in the U.S., and perhaps across the world unless the are in Canada. I used different ip addresses to watch their videos and it still didn't work, so I don't know what the deal is with them. They had a great series to called retrobytes, and now I can't watch any of those clips unless someone downloaded them and put them on their own channel.
I still don't know how c-span isn't fair use. I thought it was public domain?

I really don't know what is considered a copyright infringement! A Movie, TV or Music video, that is something I would not upload. But a news clip from CNN, or CBS, when they have already You Tube channels? I even got a pink slip and I did not uploaded a TV show or something! It was a live event, which was claimed by third party. That's the bad news of having videos on YT. You could be violating a third party content, without knowledge!

Michael I got the same pink slip from FOX, my 1st strike:
*The vid was Simpsons in the Graden of Eden
*Others did and do upload it now on YT
*I had uploaded a private video just to check copyright
*I uploaded final public edit and it was up a month getting 300+ views/day
*WHAM! They nailed me. I protested but YT said can't help me.
WHY do they single out some of us and ignore others?

How about Libertarian type legislation that further extends the god given right of freedom of speech so that you can't be penalized for the recording of Predetermined, open, exposed, and live broadcasts and in Addition to the freedom of speech you produce yourself! Live is meant for it to be exposed!

Hey MoxNews, I think there's a way to forever eliminate the copyright claims against you (although I think it would be nice to hear what a lawyer says).
The DMCA allows you to post copyrighted works as long as it is used as a citation for a commentary. So, if you post a video and then edit in a line of dialogue, anything you post becomes "commentary". It's a bit of extra work, but it'll prevent you from losing your pages.

Companies and pro-corporate folks and pro-copyright individuals LOVE to make the case for copyright seem more complex than it really is. They love to act like we NEED incredibly restrictive laws like this to protect our society and economic growth. But it's BULL! Many industries have flourished long before the introduction of IP or copyright. Against Intellectual Monopoly is a great source for info on this.
Society deserves freedom. Too much patent and copyright protection hinders it.

I think the laws on copyrights, IP and trademarks should be much looser. As long as you're not plagiarizing or claiming someone else's property is yours, who the fuck cares if you use someone else's work to incorporate into your own stuff? when I make a video with a few clips from wwe or family guy, nowhere am I claiming those are MY clips. Obviously they're from Fox and Seth McFarlane.
For instance, patent protections for companies like MS make tech. advancement much more difficult.

Shouldn't they be HAPPY that I'm, in an indirect way, promoting their product?? But instead they act like it's gonna bankrupt them. @whoo689 If those companies were allowed (and did in practice) to share their digital knowledge, rather than be SOO greedy that they protect 'industry secrets' just for the sake of a few billion dollars in possible lost revenue, we would all be so much better off. I think a copyright on a new invention for certain companies, or in general, for instance should only be about 5 years at the most. Then it's on the table for everyone else. 10 years max for books and other media.

The problems are with the msm and governments. Yes, you promote their product, but they receive no advertizement dollars when it is put on your channel. The msm fell behind on technology by not being on utube in the first place. As a somewhat radical libertarian, I don't have much patience or respect for the corporatist case for "intellectual property" or copyrights or trademarks. I think the case for that is much weaker than people make it out to be. I mean, if I use a video, esp. one that's YEARS or months old taht the company is making NO money off of, at least anymore, why should they fucking care? Because they made it? How is that a legit reason?

I more or less subscribe to your channel because you DOCUMENT the 'news', including its shortcomings. I view this as historical footage - as to HOW the media is covering certain events.... so it becomes indispensable in understanding it's influence on shaping public opinion. One nit: I wouldn't say that you are "covering" any stories. You provide meta-content, but not primary content. In some sense you may be covering the news programs themselves, but I think most of the value of this channel is in your editorialization / aggregation. Not original journalism.
So the claim that "no one covered it better" isn't so great credibility-wise. Just sayin'

What you say is so true Michael. YouTube will change history's documentation of events because footage- however biased- can be viewable across eras and followed up with changes in views and subsequent events. Providing news on YT is a *huge* perk of it's utility and CBC News should be flattered that you feature their broadcast.
Keep it up, and if you decide to write a letter of copyright appeal to YT I think many of your channel viewers would sign it.

CBC blocks all of their videos from being viewed by anyone in the U.S., and perhaps across the world unless the are in Canada. I used different ip addresses to watch their videos and it still didn't work, so I don't know what the deal is with them. They had a great series to called retrobytes, and now I can't watch any of those clips unless someone downloaded them and put them on their own channel.
I still don't know how c-span isn't fair use. I thought it was public domain?

Damn, it would be the CBC wouldn't it, as a canadian who helps to pay for their government news network, I'm against their claim against you. CBC is a decent channel however, not perfect but good. I was going to recommend a couple of other cbcnn shows to add to your DVR monitoring. lol, I guess now is not the time. I've spotted CBC going after certain events like when 22minutes did an anti Guardasil spoof ad called Protectasil. CBC has been very effective in preventing me from finding a copy.
