They pad the nest pretty good to protect themselves from the cactus needles, but I'm sure the cactus needles do help keep the crawling predators away!
Thank you - Most of the commenters seem to think they're doves, so I'll agree. Frankly, I can't tell a dove from a cactus wren. I just watch them and wonder how they'll taste on the BBQ.
Great vid Ken!!! I film birds every time I get a good opportunity. It certainly ain't as easy getting good shots of them as most people might think. (Leastwise not around here) From reading the comments it looks like you filmed this over a pretty short period of time. It would take me a forever to get that much interesting footage. I really loved the momma feeding the two little ones at around :53
Thanks! This was shot over a period of about 4 or 5 days, and all right outside our hotel room. Each morning I'd get up and check out the nests with my camera before breakfast.
Great stuff! I have a project that will include some doves like the ones in your video that I've been putting off for a while. It's for a song called, "Cute Little Bird." Some of the clips are already shot, but there's still some stuff I need to shoot.
That's so cute. :)
Warms my heart.
Never seen anything like that...

Very fine. I shared it with my friends at YSI (Youth Science Institute) by posting it on their FaceBook page. Thanks

This was probably shot not too far from you - over in Desert Hot Springs. Maybe these birds are still hanging out there ... go get 'em!

Great video though when the three birds locked in together the first time i thought it might turn into birds gone wild.
bearchay889 2 years ago
Well... there was some birds gone wild footage, but I posted that elsewhere ;^)

Love those hummingbirds. I've never seen them IRL & would love to do so one day.
Great quality on this video too :)

No hummingbirds in England? Or just not in Hastings? Well, hopefully you'll get the opportunity to seem them sometime soon.
kenrg 2 years ago
Only in a zoo i'm afraid & i don't recall seeing any there either.
Yes, seeing them in the wild sounds very inticing :)

Great stuff! I enjoyed watching the birds. Beautiful to watch and wonderful to think about spring right now. :)

I guess this was wishful vlogging? Longing for spring... Thanks!

Thanks - We've been pretty chilly in NorCal lately too - Maybe why I went back to find this footage from last spring and finally edit it up ;^)

Hummingbirds are hard to shoot! I notice the plants also: prickly pear, century plant, bird of paradise...as well as the desert quail! good job!

And all of this was just outside our hotel room in DHS. We didn't even have to leave the property.

Dead on camera work Kenrg, I'm not a huge fan of birds myself but great job non the less.

Personally, I most like birds when they're deep fried or barbequed, but it was a fun subject for a video anyway ;^)

It was like a regular wildlife film. Is there no end to your talents? Nice one.
periurban 2 years ago
Nope, no end to them. In fact, next I'm doing an opera. ... Well... maybe there should be an end... LMAO, but thanks!

I forget the desert even has birds sometimes.
These really are terrific shots. How you held the camera steady enough to get the hummingbirds... wow!
OhCurt 2 years ago
Well, the trick is to get the hummingbirds first thing in the morning before you start drinking and and your hand starts shaking...
kenrg 2 years ago
Drinking... you mean coffee, right?
OhCurt 2 years ago
Yeah... right... Coffee! That's the ticket! The caffeine gives me the jitters. We only drink herbal tea while out in the desert...

Some great footage Ken.
