I was a student, and my voice then could not have moved like that. Often we slowed the tempos down so my voice could handle it without straining. I am also not sure my musicianship at the time could have handled such a speed.
Thank you for your insight! I see now that you are completely right, especially after listening to Ameling perform this piece.
