I don't think that this was connected to a pure YM2612 chip, but samples like that are easy to get (rip) from Sega Genesis emulators and other programs. There's also a plugin called VOPM for Fl Studio (and others) that emulates YM2151 which is damn close to 2612.
@zedrein18 The SNES soundchip was great at creating semi-realistic instruments, while the YM2612 was best at creating funky, hip hopish tunes. I love both too.
@Steelix100 Thank you! I didn't use any soundfonts here, but I help work on a soundfont that emulates classic synthesizers like the one used in the Sega Genesis/Megadrive. It's called Regression FM, you can find it on YouTube.
I tried to get them as close as I could at the time. The squeaky sound at 1:40 is the "ship taking off" sound that gets faster and faster at 2:15-2:21. I think I made it by making noise and modulating it with a saw wave pattern, then automating the pitch bending up and up when the song plays to make it go faster.
It's a plugin inside the plugin bundle or something called "Pluggo". It looks like they've ended sales on it, soooo hopefully there's alternative ways to get it. :(
Nice work! At the moment I'm using VOPM in FL Studio for genesis music. It's quite timely in that I have to get the info if the instument I want to use and manually type all the settings in. Is FM 4-op plugin better than VOPM? Been looking for it to try, but unable to find it.
In my opinion the FM 4-op plugin is easier and more friendly to use; instead of adjusting a bunch of knobs, you adjust the visual graphs that represent attack, sustain, release, etc. I don't know which of the two is better, but as you can see I was able to recreate the sounds in FM 4-op. You won't be able to use existing info like you did in VOPM, unless the info is like pictures of the graphs... I did all mine from scratch and tons of trial and error. It's fun! Look for Pluggo, it's in there.
i like how yo added bass to the song when you remade it

Have you ever tried the VOPM plugin? With the right.opms, it can sound exactly like the original song.

I definitely love the Genesis' soundchip, but I'll always favor the SNES SPC700

nice, how'd you make the sound at 1:40ish? never heard anything quite like it on a MD. The lead at 1:55 also sounds unusually full.

Is it possible to use DAC samples in this program?
ChryslerCruiser 3 years ago
If they're in .wav format or similar, you can import it into FL and use them as a sample channel.

Man how I love the YM2612, probably the best synthesisor there is.
