this is a great video, I plan to become a vet after college (have wanted to be a vet since I was like 2 yrs old) and this was very informative. I also have owned a ferret who was not fixed. She was a jill I adopted from someone who said she was fixed. Once she went into her first heat, her vulva swollened and she eventually lost all her fur. It lasted about a year and then all her fur grew back, better than ever, and her vulva is now at it's right size. We are hoping its a miracle!! =)
@ChristianEvolution only veterinarians can spay animals but sometimes neuters are performed by common people. of course it is performed sanitarily and safely. you wouldn't expect human sugery to be performed in a dirty environment or without anesthesia now would you? that's an insult to the veterinary profession.
Not all ferrets sold at pet stores are spayed or neutered. Some private pet store chains can and will sell ones that have not been. Its rarer, but its out there. Chains like Petco or Petland though, they will spay and neuter.
All ferrets sold at pet stores are descented, and spayed/neutered. If you're ferret is from Marshall Farms, if you look at his/her right ear, there will be two tattoos. One is to certify spay/neuter and the other is to certify descenting.
in the usa it usaly removed here in the uk it isnt becouse it is unneeded and considerd cruel they can kick up a stink but only if scared or shocked so if ur a good keeper of ferrets u shouldnt have to worrie about them doing it....the smell goes away swiftly unlike skunks stink
A jill (female ferret) is more commonly used for rabbiting. It is highly advisable to spay them since they can develop serious health problems and extreme aggression while in heat. The only way to "fix" them is surgery.
hi i am looking to start keeping a couple of ferret i am in the uk what do u suggest i get as in what sex i want them for rabbiting? also is there any other way of taking them out of heat than spaying? thanks great vid
