  • Don't act like you're invincible people. Every driver gets distracted here and there and it takes that 1 unlucky time to be distracted to strike a child/person going across the street. Thankfully this technology NEVER blinks and is NEVER distracted. For that 1 time in the 30 years of driving you get distracted this program will be your second eyes.

  • This lady is "OOOH MY GOD, THE CAR STOPS, CAN´T BELIEVE IT!!!" Uh, maybe it does if you pay attention and hit that BIG pedal beside the accelerator...

  • this car saved me bunch in my insurance. when my wife drives city Safety is there instead of me :)

  • Yes, she looks like someone who would use this feature a lot....

  • "OH MY GOSH, AND IM GETTING PAYED $100 DOLLARS TO DO THIS"

  • She needs to update her own technology. If you know what I mean!! Hahaha

  • It would be cheaper to pay for the car damage then get this system.

  • @normanmj Technically not, because this a is standard feature on the XC60, so whether you have the elite model or even the base model, it will always include this ground-breaking technology. And this car is reasonably cheap for what it offers, something which you haven't considered.

  • Haha, what a cool video! She's like: "I'm gonna hit it, I'm gonna hit it, I'm gonna... Wooooohhha! ..."

  • nunca vi un video tan malo

  • this system is pretty stupid. if your a volvo driver chances are you don't go above 30mph. they should make lazers for the back of the car that stops them from hitting you!!!!!!!!!

  • @ejuoi Instead of automatic brakes they should install a boxer's glove on a spring in the back of each Volvo, so if car gets too close it deploys and KA-BLAMO

  • #2 Are you kidding me have you never heard of drifting were you basicly drive sideways? But yeah a sensor is not going to stop you from sliding into someone.

  • Wow!! This went viral!

  • A lot of accidents happen from people falling asleep. Which is what happens when you watch this video.

  • As if clicking on this video wasn't an accident. lol

  • i dont get it

  • it seems stupid to help people like this because they are just so incompetent....the the reality is that people are this stupid to need this sort of thing

  • i agree completely

it used to be 'sex sells'

now car companies are using people's incompetence to sell their cars its pathetic, no wonder obesity is on a high level in areas where such cars are available. right?

  • That girl's face would stop a train all by itself -- don't need no Volvo.

  • I have a friend that drove a Volvo S70 and was driving on a FM road here in Texas. He jumped the ditch going 80mph and rolled the car multiple times before opening his car door and walking out of it unharmed except for a scratch on his arm and forehead. I believe Volvo are f'n badass cars because they saved Chris's life when he lost control.

  • thats awesome

its probably cause they're built like bricks, heavy as fuck , but safe too

  • Actually we have a couple Toyota's with over 400,000 miles each and they run perfect with all original parts except new O rings and other routine maintenance. Ones an 1986 Tercel and the other one is a 1983 Longbed Hilux pickup. I wanna see a BMW or Mercedes last that long. We also got an 02 silverado but we'll see how long that lasts :P my 95 Saturn SC2 has 206,000 miles but we just rebuilt the engine so it will last at least another 200K

  • why do we need a car that stops itself? Really, please explain.

  • Research shows that approx. 75% of all accidents occur in low mileage situations (under 19mph) and many of those accidents involve a distracted driver. Creating City Safety is Volvo's answer to an undeniable problem, in our effort to provide safety in all driving situations.

  • okay well in low accedents theres not a big damage. so theres no point. its just a bump if its under 19. mph. and its useless. i showed this to my family and they all laughed becase its only under 19mph. most accsidents are on hiways and no one goes under 19mph there. and it only has a sensor from the front! no side? thats not something too feel even a bit safe in if your a SAFE driver

  • you are talking so much shit. You think you are the perfect driver.

  • 75% of all reported crashes occur at speeds up to 19mph, half of these crashes occur in city traffic. Wake up PivotMurdaBaller, its called City Safety not Highway Safety. Most cars have poor bumpers that don't protect expensive body panels and headlights which need to be replaced in even 5mph crashes. City Safety also prevents debilitating whiplash injuries. If your on the highway use the XC60's collision warning with auto-brake, adaptive cruise control, distance alert and blind-spot warning!

  • yea i guess so.

  • you´re and idioit. But i feel the other guys already told you why you are it so... peace

  • Maybe not much damage... but we had to junk our old car because of thedamage it got when I bumped into a lady's car when she unexpectedly stopped right in front of me in a roundabout.

This system would have saved us alot of money if we had had it on that car.

  • @VolvoXC60 I couldn't agree more. And along with Volvo's innovation and quality, you should be absolutely reassured that you are in complete safety when driving a Volvo automobile.

  • @BeastEd

So crappy drivers Dont damage our cars.

Secondly, about 70% to 80% of all road accidents happen in a Situation that a driver is distracted in a speed of 19mph or lower. This is basicly a second pair of eyes for the driver, and the car preventing an accident altogether or minimising the damage to both party's car, also not to mention the Abrupt stop will make the driver more focused on what they are doing, and hopefully make them realise they are driving a Potential Killing machine.

  • man, i hope this works i'd be kinda cool, but a lot of these technologies respond to false alarms to often. at least volvo specializes in safety, so it may work

  • Right, but sticking to the topic at hand, the technology has nothing to do with Better driving, it addresses what is reality as of today on the roads. I agree with you we need a better drivers education in our schools, but there really isn't much from a financial perspective that Volvo can do to improve this around the world but to just implement preventative / safety technology in their cars.

  • While the technology has benefits I would perfer funding go to driver education, hell up the driving age up to 18, put devices that jam cell signals while the car is in motion.

My big complaint is all the ad's go off and claim "The worlds first"...well no thats a dirty lie at best, the Mercedes S-class starting in 00 or 01 had this same feature, the only difference was that you could turn it off if you wanted. If your going to hit a lexus though, go ahead and do us a favor - hit the gas.

  • To clarify, this is a world's first as standard. While other companies may have similar technologies, Volvo is the first to include it as a standard feature in the XC60.

  • No its not, the S-class had it standard years and years ago.

Volvo should take a lesson from lexus who had to pay mercedes millions for stealing the smartkey concept after a patent claim.

I hope toyota faces massive court damages for its solar cells on the roof it claims are worlds first, The Mazda Millenia/Eunos 800 had a solar panel in its sunroof and spoiler in 1994 to power a small a/c unit as well.

  • The S-Class has something called Brake Assist which monitors pedal application speed to sense emergency braking and deliver maximum stopping power. So, would that be the same thing as what the XC60 has?

  • Thats a totally different system, and something almsot all cars have, its called ABS. Any car has enough power to lock its wheels, ABS allows you to slow faster but maintaining traction. The only time locking your wheels would slow you faster is in sand or gravel. The mercedes system is part of the adaptive cruise control used as early as 2000 on the S600.

  • okay, but what mercedes-benz has is called BAS, not ABS, even though they might be the same thing.

  • No, it has both, they are totally different systems, EVERY single car made after the late 70's and 80's at the most has brake assist, try using your brakes with the engine off and see how hard it is to stop with pressure alone.

This video is about SOFTWARE that senses a collison and applies the brakes - mercedes had it years ago, end of story.

  • okay.

  • @VolvoXC60 It's an additional option in Ireland. This doesn't come standard.

  • @enigma02g I Could point out many car models that have a Similar feature, like the 2010 Honda CR-V that Has A Similar effect, It Automatic Swerves 12 Degree in the Safest way, Brakes and Uses the seatbelt pre-tensioner

These are only available in the high spec / version of these cars, But Volvo include it as an Standard feature. There for is the Worlds First.

  • @enigma02g Humans will ALWAYS make mistakes regardless of the knowledge given. I'd fund electronics saving our ass any day over trying to over educate a human that will simply be distracted from time to time.

  • hahah lol

  • I don't understand how there can even be any debate over the benefits of this technology. The reality is there will always be careless drivers, or "idiots" as one guy said below. All this does is helps reduce impacts and avoid some altogether. How can you even be against positive technology?

I'd say something like let's all wake the fuck up and drive smarter but that isn't going to happen. My compliments to volvo

  • Agreed.

  • well I like the idea. I don't think that anyone here posting angry things hasn't ever at least had a close call. we're human, not machine. i think its nice.

  • The Driver needs to be more responsible instead of car companies creating ways to compensate for stupidity, bad driving habits and a basic wtf attitude.

  • Volvo recognized that 75% of accidents were occurring in these low speed situations. Regardless of fault, we seek to address the need to reduce injuries and accidents overall. This was an area where technology could assist. The responsibility of driving remains with the driver.

  • @VolvoXC60 Yes you are right, I agree with you at some point but technology instead of making people smart they turning people more stupid and expecting a computer to do it all for them and if the computer fails they will end up killing some innocent people on the road or a pedestrian on the street. And what the fucking driver will say, "it's not my fault, my computer failed or didn't detected the kids crossing the street"

  • @VolvoXC60 Now tell me; what does the cop suppose to do in that case, give a ticket to vehicle instead of the driver or even better send the vehicle to jail until the registration expire, how about the junk yard maybe? I hope you get my point and someone else does too

  • @butch93105 No matter how much you try and keep people from being distracted at the wrong time, there will always be accidents due to distraction. I will fully fund this type of technology because even the greatest of drivers fuck up here and there and for all we know it may kill a person.

  • this means I can talk on my cell phone and use my laptop without worrying about driving

finally, a car for complete idiots

  • you and me are true idiots

  • ok.

  • Yeah great way for drunk drivers to be safe, and yet free on the street lol.

but i don't get it what if your speeding like crazy would the car just stop?

it would have to crash lol.

  • it only works below a certain speed or "city speeds" below 30 km/hr so it's no replacement for the driver being alert, it's just a safety net just in case you're distracted for a sec.

  • thats gay

  • but wat if a person is driving behind u nd he doesnt kno it has an auto break he could crash into u

  • it acts just like normal brakes, all the lights come on and such, so really, it just helps in situations when you are temporarily distracted or something. also, it only works below a certain speed so it should not be too much of an issue for someone rear ending you, people behind would not know if it was the city safety or just the driver braking.

  • Which is why you're not supposed to tailgate. If the driver behind you has enough distance in front, there shouldn't be such an issue stopping.

  • there is a auto break on car when she go to close to the vehivle it stopped for her

  • I don't get it....what are you all finding so funny?

  • LOL

  • so hillary how do feel about bill cheating on you?

  • hillary clinton!lol

  • u look like sarah palin
