Actually Blackie WASN'T a Hauraki Pirate at all. He joined Hauraki in the mid 70s long after the Tiri II came ashore in June 1970 and when Radio Hauraki was a legal PRIVATE radio station. A lot of people think he as out on the the 2 boats - Tiri & Tiri II, but he never was.
Classic stuff. Tumultuous time in NZ. I was 15 in 1987 but really into it all. Your tape reminds me just how long ago all that is now! I must search now for any Lange interviews.
Dear God... did anything interesting happen in New Zealand at this time? I mean, a main story is about a DJ, (who looks like some kind of parody of himself), getting a pay rise and not leaving NZ...!
I don't remember the network logo so I must have moved to Oz around the time this was taken, but it looks like the '85 logo thats on my page but just angled a bit. Other than that, not bad.
I'm often surprised how many of you guys STILL have tapes with this material on it. Nice one.

Media stars getting paid lots is still news. Just think of the hooha around Judy Bailey's pay rise in 2004.

The news reader - there were comments about tokenism at the time ... chucked into a high profile slot without adequate training ...
Anybody know when Perigo left TVNZ because it was "brain dead"?
Duncster 5 years ago
I think it was during the TVNZ shake up in 1988/89. Could be wrong though.
RombieNZ 5 years ago
@Duncster I read he left in 1993, because that was when Libertarianz was founded.
