  • aw man, that looks like a good work out to meeh 0_0

  • wow i so much believe Hmong/Miao use to dance like that. the modern dance now has no feeling/touch to it(my opinion). I love this!! this dance resemble how we live freely. i dont like the thai/lao mixture dance we have now. i didnt mean that i dont like like thai and lao dance, i prefer original thai/lao dance verses the mix.

  • thank you for uploading this video.

  • That would be SO much fun!

  • these are hmong for real, i saw this dance and dressing in hmong history part 2 going back in china when hmong rose up and fought back at chinies manchu's crulety ruling after one of our leader Leetengbao was deafeated.

  • plus us hmong in laos and thailand no longer know these dances instead we are dancing in thai ways!! we need to go back and learn our old ways!!

  • i agree!!

I find our own Miao (Hmong) cultural dances to be so much better than the traditional thai/lao dances.

  • The Native American analogy works but see it only closer in time and culture. Instead, use a region like the West or the Plains. In general, the tribes who live in these particular regions share a similar link in culture, language and food but each are distinct in their own way. These dancers are clearly NOT Hmong. Hmong are people whose lineage can be traced back to the initial migration from Southern China to the Indochinese region.

  • I don't mean to be rude, so sorry if i come off that way, but if you insist that: "Hmong are people whose lineage can be traced back to the initial migration from Southern China to the Indochinese region," then you seriously need to go do a lot of research about the Hmong (Miao) people.

  • I strongly encourage all of you to do a little research on the Hmong and Miao. Most of the comments here seem very ignorant. I have used the Native American analogy before. Miao is analogous to Native American and Hmong can be analogous to Cherokee. Thus, every Cherokee is Native American, but not every Native American is Cherokee. So similarly, every Hmong is a Miao, but not every Miao is Hmong.

  • No, actually there's an equality between Miao and Hmong.

in the West, all of the Miao people who don't have chinese citizenship are called Hmong, and when people say 'Hmong', there are a whole lot of Miao groups that are included like hmong green, hmong dub, striped hmong, hmong white, etc.

There are two distinct spellings for 'Hmong', one is 'Mong(Moob)' and the other is 'Hmong (Hmoob)' which is the official name for Miao in the West.

Miao is what we're called in China. We're all one people.

  • Well said, jennlo1.

  • Many times when people hear the world 'Hmong', they immediately think of the hmong dawb, but it's not like that. there are other groups of hmong that are all included under the name 'Hmong'. but the important thing to remember is that we're all one people (the Miao in China, the Meo in vietnam, and the Hmong in the West). We all have the same ancestors and the same origins, and we all fought in the same wars together from the Jiuli times to San Miao and until now.

    hope you understand.

  • i think the comment feature should be turned off sometimes, just my personal preference actually. no matter how informative you try to be, some people wont take the initiative to learn. i applaud those who actually learn, sometimes ppl are idiots.

  • Turning it off would make things way easier, but leaving 'em on will allow those that want to learn a chance to learn. Just my two cents.

  • keep posting any thing about Miao. i like to know more. I'm a married hmong man, for all those who are saying Miao is an insult to Hmong people, true, but do you really know what it means in chinese,( can you read and wirte)for me, I don't. My understanding of the word (Hmong) was giving to us through a military reporter whom was making reports during the Vietnam War. So make sure you know your facts before you start saying anything.

  • the symbol 苗 means Miao. It has two characters. The lower part is the symbol of a rice field. The upper part is the symbol of a sprout grain or rice. The Miao people are known as the first rice planter in China. Today, they still practiced one of the oldest rice planting method called the SLASH and BURN. most Hmong in China now practice planting Rice in Water Field.

  • we are not miao, we are Hmong. the term miao its the chianess use to hate my people. Its full of hate. Its like the white use the "N" word to a black person. Its an offensive word too us...

  • the miao people have four groups. the hmong, the hmu, the ahmao and the gaoxiong. miao does not mean babarian in chinese. it means rice people. hmong hate the term MEO or Miao because the thai, lao and viet used it to insult us as CAT.

  • Thank you for uploading this video! Miao is a racial term though. Please refer to using Hmong instead of Miao.

  • Many Hmong still think Miao is a bad term. It actually means YOUNG SEED in Mandarin Chinese. Man means babarian. Meo in Vietnamese means Cat. I can understand the reason to why many hmong hate the word Miao but if you did your researchs and studies, Miao does not mean anything negative.

  • I know Miao =YOUNG SEED in Mandarin =w=; I'm not a clueless person either. But heck who knows for traditional Chinese.

But have you ever consider that Young seed, in the old days is actaully consider babarian. Or "New starter" That original term is still used in today's society. And Miao is not what we call ourselves. We call ourself Hmong.. And Hmong only. Miao is a given name not by us, But by the Chinese.

  • Man in Chinese means BABARIAN. In the Hmong language, MA refers to savages, uncivilized people. same as the word MAN, pronounce MANN which sounds like MA, means babarian in CHINESE as well.

  • Now...

Take Japanese for example. They are known as Hihonjin. "People of the Rising Sun" in their language. You go up to them and say JAP, they'll all get mad an shit.

So Do you have any idea what does Hmong mean? I'm sure you do.

  • Hmong mean Rice. Because Mao in chinese means Grain. Long time ago in China, the Hmong were known as AH HMAUD. Hmong does not mean free. Ah Hmaud, Haiv Hmong, Miao... sound the same, just a bit off.

  • COOOLS...man if only the hmong people in the states could hav or do these types of dances here. that will give me a reason to go to the hmong new years. cool outfits too. dang i wona own one someday!! lmao

  • I LOL at your name.

Well I'm sorry if we "Hmong American" are mainly from Laos and Thai HUH?! *flicks*

  • That does not mean we should impose our views and ideals onto the rest of the Miao/Hmong population.

  • I do not understand your statement.

  • this is not "traditional" hmong, this is hmong shoua

  • this is traditional hmong dances in china. all miao branches dance like this in china including the so-called HMONG in Yunnan. Hmong Suav? What's the different? They're Hmong as well.

  • the difference? maybe you should fucking read into your cultures alittle more u dick! miao = cat! hmong = ethnic group! and there is alot of difference, read your books

  • you're pathetic and ignorant.

  • im pathetic and ingnorant? your the retardt that does not know the difference between "miao" and "hmong". Maybe because are too stupid to read it yourself so ask your mother and father what the differences are you idiot

  • hmong and miao are the same, just that they have different dilects in the way they talk!!

  • I'm assuming he lives in America. Miao is actaully an insult if you call Hmong, Miao. =w=

  • Hmoob txuj ci, very nice hmong dance.
