  • ME GUSTA LA BATERIA POR EXCELENCIA CUANDO ESCUCHO MIS GRUPOS PROGRESIVOS FAVORITOS, ESTE ES EL CASO DE ESTE TEMA. TODO EL ALBUM IS GOOD. ME HUBIERA GUSTADO QUE SIGUIERA CON LOS MAHAVISHNU. EN FIN ASI ES LA VIDA.

  • 3:13 OMG, That bass its amazing..

  • Such a great song..

  • WHY 1 DISLIKE ?

  • @joffile1 Because it has been speed up and ruined!

  • es un puto ignorante al q no le va esta tema, jajajajaajajaja

  • Tommy Bolin at his finest... One of the all time greats who could really make it talk.

  • Safe from harm.

  • The most "powerful" drummer ever...kind of glad the beginning was left out.

  • The most "powerful" drummer ever...

  • I am freaking out!!! 25 years i did not hear that piece until today. I swear i just had trip back in time...What a great piece. Timeless masterpiece!!! Thanks for this wonderful upload...so much better than today's music...

  • Hey, where's the beginning part of the track? Regardless, this is a brilliant track from one of his best albums.

  • cobham is THE man!

  • This is sped up... it's also Tommy Bolin on guitar, NOT John Abercrombie... and I'm wondering if it was sped up to keep some music company from taking it down - I've found it strange that the original version off of Spectrum is NOT on YouTube... and a sped up version would keep them from detecting it, since I assume they use some sort of "digital fingerprint" to identify music.... and sped up it won't match any fingerprint...

  • @videotrexx sounds good fast.

  • MONSTERS!

  • To alle221171, do you know that this is a speed-up version of the original? Admittedly it's only speed-up slightly but it ruins the music nonetheless.

  • this guy is insane. the skill, the accuracy... the beat. everything is perfection. hes probably one of the best drummers we will ever have.

  • What planet is the bass player from?!?

  • @5891jonathan It is Lee Sklar from Planet Earth ;)

  • Still as fresh as in the olde days ;-)

  • I saw him 1974 in Amsterdam - he is awesome.

  • massive attack

    safe from harm!

  • @tsspng

    Hattie Cursey brought me here.

  • I heard this in the mid 70's and it jams! I like Tommy Bolin's version too.

  • did you know that Jan Hammer (writer of miami vice theme) played keys on stratus and the whole spectrum album :)

  • @PiHDrummer hammer is great! to me one of the greatest keyboarders!

  • Awesome. Haven't heard this in years.

  • SPECTRUM is the best album ever made.

  • quite possibly the best drummer ever to live. listen to his rolls...amazing, And to say he is a metranome well they callibrate them to his drumming. lmao

I loved this song since i first heard it in '75-'76 at a party. Thanks Billy, Chic, and friends

  • Is this off Spectrum??? EPIC!!!

  • nobody plays it better...unreachable guy...

  • That bass explains how there are no dislikes to this vid

  • @BeatBay

    Tommy Bolin

  • Comment removed

  • @BeatBay It is Tommy Bolin

  • @tuskimo AAHH !!Sacrilege!! Guys, pls pay attention before saying such things! this seminal bass line was hand craftshipped by LEE SKLAAR, not Tommy Bolin (who played guitars).

  • Stratus is my favorite song.........Oh yeah this mysong

  • Top choice and all time fave

  • THE most amazing musicians assembled here. Saw Billy Cobham with John Mclaughlin in '71 and was immediately spellbound and hooked on Jazz, Fusion or whatever banner this sort of music would fly under ever since. Opened a whole new and very welcome world to this grateful fan.

  • For youtube the sound is awesome!

  • super duper funky,,!!

  • MR.LEFT HAND LEAD!!!!!

  • Who plays guitar on this record ? Please answer A.S.A.P.

  • @MrHeavysteel

    Tommy Bolin (August 1, 1951, December 4, 1976)

    RIP

  • @kasavubu thanks, i have to admit that guitar is ........... too bad he died to young.

  • serious funkster,!!

  • deadly....

  • For me more than any other keyboard player coming out of that era, (Corea, Zawinul, Hancock), Jan Hammer played moog synthesizer the best. His solos, especially on the Mahavishnu Orchestra Recordings, are better than anyones. Here's another example of the power and virtuosity of his playing. He really knew how to built a solo and bend the notes and textures like no one else before or since. The great Jan Hammer on moog synthessizer...great shit!

  • best bass guitar riff, best guitar, best drums, best moog, perfect !

thanx to Billy Cobham, Tommy Bolin, Jan Hammer and Lee Sklar

  • Hahaha... yeah, thats it!

  • This version is WAY too fast. What idiot speeded this up? Check out jack62ven's version - the original tempo.

  • @Mahargnamm Yes! IT IS FAST and the pitch is also higher! It's obviously an LP record played faster than it should

  • @nukepcr Yeah, I know - I kind of figured that out all by myself, thanks.

  • @Mahargnamm this is the version i have on my cd, sounds like the other version on youtube is slower

  • best of havy and thill toppie toppie for my, this music is so old and up to date, you like it or not,..... greetings to your all, roepiepie***

  • Found this via Massive attack, and i'm feeling it.

  • I heard Jeff Beck do this last night in Detroit. One of the few players left who could do it justice.

  • 2:03-2:22.......cooooooool

  • I am familiar with this song because I believe this was sampled in NaS's 1991 demo tape track: "Number One With A Bullet". Upon hearing this song i recognized how amazing the percussion and smooth style that flows along this track. I must say I'm impressed.

  • This it is the first version Album Spectrum by Billy Cobham 1973 we play that every night 1973 (lovers club cologne)

  • anyone heard the Jeff Beck arrangement from Ronnie Scotts? it is FUCKING AWESOME.

but this is the original, and EXTREMELY cool.

  • Love this song so much! :)

  • Good stuff.

  • I got to meet Billy Cobham at the womad festival in england a couple of years ago. Told him I bought his album Crosswinds when it came out in '74? and that I still listen to it every week!
