I am freaking out!!! 25 years i did not hear that piece until today. I swear i just had trip back in time...What a great piece. Timeless masterpiece!!! Thanks for this wonderful upload...so much better than today's music...
This is sped up... it's also Tommy Bolin on guitar, NOT John Abercrombie... and I'm wondering if it was sped up to keep some music company from taking it down - I've found it strange that the original version off of Spectrum is NOT on YouTube... and a sped up version would keep them from detecting it, since I assume they use some sort of "digital fingerprint" to identify music.... and sped up it won't match any fingerprint...
To alle221171, do you know that this is a speed-up version of the original? Admittedly it's only speed-up slightly but it ruins the music nonetheless.
quite possibly the best drummer ever to live. listen to his rolls...amazing, And to say he is a metranome well they callibrate them to his drumming. lmao
I loved this song since i first heard it in '75-'76 at a party. Thanks Billy, Chic, and friends
@tuskimo AAHH !!Sacrilege!! Guys, pls pay attention before saying such things! this seminal bass line was hand craftshipped by LEE SKLAAR, not Tommy Bolin (who played guitars).
THE most amazing musicians assembled here. Saw Billy Cobham with John Mclaughlin in '71 and was immediately spellbound and hooked on Jazz, Fusion or whatever banner this sort of music would fly under ever since. Opened a whole new and very welcome world to this grateful fan.
For me more than any other keyboard player coming out of that era, (Corea, Zawinul, Hancock), Jan Hammer played moog synthesizer the best. His solos, especially on the Mahavishnu Orchestra Recordings, are better than anyones. Here's another example of the power and virtuosity of his playing. He really knew how to built a solo and bend the notes and textures like no one else before or since. The great Jan Hammer on moog synthessizer...great shit!
I am familiar with this song because I believe this was sampled in NaS's 1991 demo tape track: "Number One With A Bullet". Upon hearing this song i recognized how amazing the percussion and smooth style that flows along this track. I must say I'm impressed.
I got to meet Billy Cobham at the womad festival in england a couple of years ago. Told him I bought his album Crosswinds when it came out in '74? and that I still listen to it every week!
Open Sesame..Lov U So Much Billy Cobham
