  • On a Tuesday in Jan, 1983, my husband left for Marine Corp basic training at Paris Island. This became our song at that time......on Monday, Sept 12, 2011, cancer took him away from me forever. My baby's gone with the wind. It will always be our song.

  • This song reminds me of my uncle..

I can remember his funeral as if it was yesterday..

It was a sunny tuesday in 2009, he wore a Skynyrd t-shirt, he was a big fan.

His coffin was covered with pictures of his newborn daughters, and his 7 year old son.

When we had to say goodbye for real, and they closed the coffin.. They played Tuesday's gone and Freebird..

His coffin got carried by his bandmates, and they layed down a rebel flag onto the coffin..

His daughters never get to know him..

    RIP

  • Amazing that a bunch of brawlin boozin redneck bad boys like Skynyrd could write such a beautiful song! Genius. Heard it hundreds of times and will love it and the rest of their music till the day I die.

  • sorry i hate to correct people but there was no "metallica" verson, the verson on garage inc was a compalation of some of the greatest musicians of all time, the guys from metallica, pepper keenan, jerry cantrell, john pappa on harmonica, les claypool, sean kinny, and lets not forget the origionator of the song gary rossington, and johny vanzant, forgive me if i miss spelled anyones name or forgot anyone, but if you listen carefuly to the song james announces everyone before their part.

  • @stayn666 YEAH someone speaks it like it was...

  • Oh wait! These guys are actually playing their own instruments and writing their own songs back then!? They actually have harmonies, great tunes, and incredible stage presence?! I thank the Lord for being born during those times so I don't have to listen to Usher, Snoop, Eminem, Selena Gomez, etc. Great music never dies. Long live Skynyrd and the other "artists" back when music was important! Thanks for the post!

  • Metallica sucks! they're version of this song sucks! It should have been illegal for them to record it!!!

  • @tux40 , sorry i hate to correct people but there was no "metallica" verson, the verson on garage inc was a compalation of some of the greatest musicians of all time, the guys from metallica, pepper keenan, jerry cantrell, john pappa on harmonica, les claypool, sean kinny, and lets not forget the origionator of the song gary rossington, and johny vanzant, forgive me if i miss spelled anyones name or forgot anyone, but if you listen carefuly to the song james announces everyone before their part.

  • wore out this 8 track along with Hendrix

  • Timeless

    Epic

    song of my youth

but now i'm old and jaded I understand it all the more.

  • if i were a time traveler id go back and make sure that plane was gassed up. still the greatest peace everyone....

  • THIS song always tears my heart out...nobody did southern blues rock like van zandt...I miss them so bad sometimes...they were the voice of my generation..

Now they Fly Free with God.

    peace

  • who has seen post crash skynyrd? iIs the live show still as good?

  • @joester07 The live shows are alright, just not quite as soulful as the originals.

    d

  • @ubernerd4 my dad seen them live and said it was the best concert he ever seen other than the stones and hendrix so idk can't say myself i was born long after the plane crash but it sounds damn good to me i can't bring myself to see them to me it'd be like going to a cover band it ain't this and this is what i'd wanna see

  • @namey420 Yeah. I've only been to one, but I have friends who've gone to others.

  • Last night I heard this politician talk about his brand new mission, liked his plan but it came undone when it got around to "GOD AND GUNS" Long live Lynyrd Skynyrd

  • I have to say, and I am sorry but Freebird is over played, along with Sweet Home Alabama, What's Your Name, and a few others. The first time I heard this song, I about cried, it is the best song to come from Lynyrd Skynyrd...... Just my opinion.....

  • @powen1962 What about the obscure Was I Right? ? That song to me is one of the old Skynyrd's finest. This song is great, but like Sweet Home Alabama, Freebird and a few others, it recieves fairly substantial airplay.

  • All are gone but Gary Rossington... Their music lives on and on and.....

  • Nine dislikes?? Are you f****** kidding me? Some people don't know GREAT MUSIC when they hear it!!!!

  • Back in the day Skynyrd kicked some serious ass. Ed King Ronnie Alan Gary forgettin' somebody! The days on the green in Oakland put on by you know who!

  • @jimmybfan Your missin Artimus Pyle Drums, Leon Wilkinson Bass, Billy Powell piano, Steve Gaines guitar, Cassie Gaines back ground vocals, Steve's sister and Dale Krantz vocals, Gary Rossington wife.

  • Wow. This is fantastic. Dark, but all the real Lynyrd Skynyrd band playin for real. Awesome.

  • Actually, if anyone doesn't like/love just down home blues/honkytonk/serious rock....they've got a problem.

  • 6:19 look sonnies crying he loved that girl

  • he lifted weights and took boxing classes

  • Dont diss Metallica for paying some respect to Skynyrd.. otherwise yall aint true Skynyrd fans.

  • I was 18

  • This is crap. There's an advert at the beginning I have to make the effort to turn off. Then the video is in black and white. There's no sexy chick dancing with her ass in my face.. Oops, sorry! Thought I was born in 1994 instead of 1964.

  • @mycal64 I feel sad for you , I guess you have to posess depth of mind to fully enjoy this song , Which is DEVOID in you . Bummer Dude . Go listen to "BOY George" !!!!!

  • @bahashawa1 Haha! You read my post wrong, bro. I'm being sarcastic about kids these days who want everything done for them and who listen to shitty music videos. A hint: I'm 47 (1964) and not 17 (1994) : )

  • I just came.

  • were dam lucky

  • That band makes me proud to be from Florida and growing up at the time they hit the scene. My momma saw there Lakeland Florida show. They did one more show I believe and the the accident happened. I was so pissed! I wanted to go to that show but I was only 9 years old:) I get goose bumps thinking about this song. My uncle who was more like a brother died on a tuesday. He was only 7 years older than me. R-I-P Skynard and uncle Randy.

  • @j0dal0r One More From The Road is awesome, but the Allman Brothers Live At Filmore East is probably the best live album ever.

  • i think that metallica's version is good, not as incredible as skynyrd version but that's normal, they wrote it ;)

  • Skynyrd made some of the most epic songs. This being atop them all!

  • Skynyrd made some of the most epic songs. This being atop them all!

  • God Bless Ronnie and crew. Incredible song. He died a year later. Major major loss.

  • Shame about the picture quality but the sound is still decent enough. Skynyrd were amazing live. I have all the albums but One More From the Road is my favourite! Tuesday's Gone and Free Bird the best tracks.

  • This song reminds me of my Uncle Randy Powers who passed away on Tuesday October 22 2002. Rest in peace and I fuckin miss you!

  • fuckin a right

  • bloodystain, they were simply giving homage to sknyrd..appreciation

  • classic is never dead, it is all a state of mind

  • lynyrd skynyrd is not dead when you hit the play button

  • Don McLean had it all wrong................ October 20, 1977 was the Day The Music Died. Long live Skynyrd!!!

  • @mikeof59 Too bad Don McLean wrote that song before October 20, 1977

  • @imunchbutts I know that, you idiot. My point was that it was more tragic to the music world when Skynyrd's plane went down that when the Big Bopper's plane went down.

  • @mikeof59 How could Don McLean have it wrong if he wrote the song before that? Your wording is really bad. You should have left of the Don McLean had it all wrong. Plus, Big Bopper, Buddy Holly, and Ritchie Valens was the day the music died and no sane individual will agree with you.

  • @imunchbutts damn right. when buddy holly died is the day the music died. bye bye miss american pie.
