This video is a great aid for learning to play this TD piece on keyboard, not to mention a nice Speccy nostalgia trip.
I remember tinkering with Melbourne House's "Music Box" program and having fun. Not long after that, I got an Amiga and my interest in music-making soaring. But the Spectrum was always the beginning of it for me.
Yes, I also think the beeper sounds great. However it takes almost 100% of the CPU. Btw - this comes from emulator. :) Original beeper sound is even better. ;)
The full album itself is here: berlin_hq. micromusic. net / bhack. html, the editor is here: worldofspectrum. org / infoseekid. cgi?id=0008523 however as far as I know there is no demo with the music yet.
Actually I am sure You could, because this is ONE channel square-wave generator. So that's a issue of CPU's fast work. :) Also they made a conversion from ZX toAtari XL (one channel of square in GTIA chip) and it worked not bad. So TED should be able to use it too. :)
Well, this comment was not about the TED's competencies, but about mine :-)
TED+CPU is able to emulate the SID in real-time (more or less), certainly with a high sampling rate, but not so high to able to cover all frequncy ranges, but rather accurate. In fact this sound reminds me my all fav C64 program, "Musics is HIRES", used a specific SID music player, and had very nice , old-fashioned sound, with nice kaleidoscope multicolor animation... I could watch it for an hour when _I was kid...
Oh, let me assure You that I'm most sure about fine TED abilities of sound. :) And if some coder make one day some prog/engine like this, I will make many songs for it. :)
I still look for C=116 to buy but sadly it wasn't very popular here. :( So I still wait, heh.
Well, if you still looking for one, try Vatera. hu (remove spaces) , although it was also not so favourite here in Hungary, due to bad quality rubber keypads. Market preferred Plus/4 (only slightly bigger), I preferred C16. There are some good offers here (full working C16 config is for 30 Euro+postage further 20...), but several PSUs died during the time... If you have no luck with English I may help. Just let me know.
But in Spectrum you could eneter a full keyword witha button press, in C-116 you had to enter ever ycharacter, but you know it well. As far as aI knwo, the biggest problem was with the space button (was sensitive only at 3 area). Anyhow, just let me know, if I should keep an eye on that topic on secondhand market and what is your budget (if you have) .
Hehe, kind of true. ;) Anyway it sounds great if ya remember it's 1bit generator. :) AND - I know how hard is to make music on this machine. :) It's real art.

This almost sounds to good to be 1-bit, this sounds like 4.

I was talking about the emulator, where do you get the emulator?
supermaletperson 2 years ago
Choose whatever You want worldofspectrum . org / emulators . html
For the easiest usage I would recommend Real Spectrum or R80.
For the best emulation it would be Z80Stalth or Unreal Speccy.

I thought this was 8-bit...

The computer is 8-bit. But it generates 1-bit sound.
It's like Amiga 500 (let's say) - the computer is 16-bit but it generates 8-bit sound.

The available TED editors:
Most complex, based on indirect informations it does not need SID card:
plus4world. powweb. com/ software/ Soundbooster_V1
(remove spaces). Developped in 1992.
After that there was a version worked with SID too, but ADSR already supported.
A more basic one is a 2-channel editor with less useful (but nice) interface:
plus4world. powweb. com/ software/Music_Editor
(certainly remove spaces)

great programming. I wish I could use so well my Plus/4's 2-channel TED "square" generator :-)
