  • @genevevewrites LOL, that's the reason I came here indeed, but I didn't realize that quite so much people watched this video only for that purpose. XD I'm a Hufflepuff on Pottermore, though my personality is somewhere between Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. I don't know which to start with - I might love Hufflepuff, but I hate the colour yellow, haha.

  • Thanks for this, I'm gonna need to start learning how to knit soon, I really want to make myself a Doctor Who Scarf. His was 24 foot long and was muticoloured, so I need all the help I can get!

  • @Denarpsaurus ya im making tom bakers scraf 2!! (but i think thelongest 1 wuz 20 not sure) but im making the original 12 foot 1

  • Thanks for this! I needed this for a Doctor Who scarf I'm going to begin working on soon. :] I've been putting off learning how to switch off color out of fear that it would be a bit difficult.

  • @ViolinistFTW Hahaha! I am here to learn how to color-change for the EXACT same scarf! Just started, time to change colors for the first time! Good luck with your Doctor Scarf! I hope to have mine done sometime by winter. XD

  • @quillian91 :D YAY! Thank you. And good luck on your scarf, too!

  • Thank you so much! :) I'm hoping to make a Gryffindor scarf for the premiere of the last Harry Potter movie. And this really helped! :D

  • @crescentrolls90 I'm doing the exact same thing! I've already knitted a few Harry Potter scarves, but I would always tie the yarn together and risk the knot unraveling (which would probably destroy the scarf if it ever happened). I'm glad I'm finally figuring out the correct way to do things! ;)

  • @crescentrolls90 Me too!

  • Great video...oddly enough...posted on my 16th birthday...which is when I got my first needles...never used them till college though :P

  • A really good and easy to understand demonstration! I only just started learning 2 weeks ago - so I get confused easily. Thanks for posting this video!! Now..... to try it out...!!!!!!

  • thank god u didthis i thought it would be complicated im knitting a scarf for my aunt and it started oink and i was gonna change it to green thank you ver much

  • Would this be the same if you just had to add more yarn of the same color?

  • Hi Michelle, this is brilliant thank you but how do you tidy up and weave in the other wool once you've added the new ball of wool? Do you know what I mean? I mean once you've added the new wool which you explain very well how to do, how do you tidy up the end from the previous ball of wool?

  • Thank you, this is very helpful!

  • either it was near Halloween when she shot this... or she likes her nails painted orange a black... Great How to tho!

  • Is it posible to make a scarf with a different colored border? I was thinking on knit the whole scarf in one color and then knit the borders with the order but I'm not so sure if it's the right way. Thanks in advance.

  • You made it so simple and understandable.

    I liked it very much.

  • do you realy have to cut the old color before putting the new one on?

  • Yeah!!!!! Knitting is number one!!!!

  • Thank you soooo much!!!

  • TY Michelle. It is so easy to learn from yr clip!

  • @stockingsholdups My guess is that there were 7 dislikes on the video.

  • Wow! That is a LOT easier than I expected!

  • god damn, it is so fucking easy

  • What happens to the ends of the string after you change colours???

  • wow This only took one quick watch to catch on :) thanks so much for posting this !

  • hi...i would just like to ask how you weave in the ends after each color change? thanks so much...this video is really a big help to beginners like me.

  • can't you do stripes the other way? like when you lay the scarf down long-ways in front of you, i was hoping to see long horizontal stripes going the whole length of the scarf instead of short vertical stripes. you know what I mean? Is that possible to do?

  • :-) FYI Just found a great easy pattern at ebeginnersknitting (.) com

  • 7 people don't know how to knit properly.

  • how can you give a finish look to your scarf on the sides of the scarf

  • am i the only person who sees the whole caption on the entire video so that i can't see the person teaching you how to change colors?

  • @ignorelist ME TOO!!!

  • @ignorelist yes. (:

  • Thanks. That was very helpful! But how do you weave the ends after?!?

  • thank you for captioning your video

  • Why not just carry the yarn up the side of your work instead of cutting it? That method leaves a lot of ends to weave in doens't it?

  • ow ur soo smart i think well u have knitting smarts 4 sure

  • I love your videos! They're always so incredibly helpful when I'm stuck!

  • You knit just like me! Thankyou so much for making this vid now I can knit my scarf with your vid as reference!

  • i need a scarf im freaking cold!!!! ill shart on all of you!

  • Hello!

I'm well into my first project of knitting a striped scarf. But, I've hit a wall. The first yarn change went fabulously, but, when I wanted to switch back to the main color the seam that SHOULD be on the back side of the project appears on the front. So, I'm not getting the seamless look that I want. If you could PLEASE explain what I'm doing wrong..I would really appreciate it!

  • @xCelebritySkinx I had this problem at first, then I realized you have to make the color change on the same side every time. Maybe you've figured this out by now since it's been a few weeks

  • Harry Potter Scarf <3 :D

  • :DDD

BEST video that I've come across when I was searching for how to switch colors. ;0

    Tysm<3

  • THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!!!! My stupid cat started to chew on my thread that I had going for a dishcloth I was making, and I was almost done, but the thread broke. I hate that cat...but you SAVED it!!! I'll give you a cyber hug. *hugs*

  • what to do with the tails!?????

  • @bubanjm You sew the tails into the scarf using one of those big looking plastic or metal needles. It's really easy.

  • Thank you so much!

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks - I've never known how to do that. Now I just need to know what to do with the tails!

  • THank you sooo sooo much!! You're the best ^^

  • Thanks so much! Now im knitting an awesome scarf! And for all u ppl who siad this video was horrible, u all r wrong!!!

  • Thanks so much! Ive always wanted to knit a scarf with stripes so thanks alot!!

  • Oh thank you for this, im clueless. I'm a guy so I lack the patience, but I heard it helps the hands movements. So I have no idea what i'll end up doing hahaha.

  • Then go to another video-don't blame someone else because you don't know what you're doing. That was just plain rude.

  • it would have been faster to knit with the tail and the working yarn for 4 stitches. that saves you having to weave it in

  • Thank you for this. I knew how to do it, but was very concerned about the extra loopiness causing it to not look as nice. This time, I just knit, and came back to tighten, much better!

  • Man. Your videos are unbelievably helpful :)

  • Thanks that helped a lot!

  • I thought when I switched colors I was doing it wrong untill I saw this :)

  • Thank God you did this! I was thinking it was so hard! This is great!

  • oh myyy, thank you!!! imma go knit en change colors now =]

  • Thank you! Your instructions were very clear...

  • thank you soooo much for this! i guess ive been doing it wrong

  • thank you soooooo much for this video. the way i've been doing it is quite time consuming with tying the yarn on and snipping the ends every time...thank you thank you THANK YOU

  • I can't tell you how much you've saved me. -_- I've been trying and failing to add color cleanly for months now. This is the most practical way I've seen, and it really worked out for me. Thanks so much!

  • Thanks so much for this video! I was trying to learn from a book, which makes it sound harder. So simple!

  • wow...i used to tie the two colors together and then knit it in...well i learned something new i guess

  • Hola la felicito. Gracias por compartir sus conocimientos. La forma que lo hace es muy agradable y didáctica.

    Dios le bendiga.

    Silvia de Medellín- Colombia

  • this helped me sooo much in changing color on my scarf from red to black....but what do i do with the "tails" u say weave them back in but how to i do that?

  • ive got the old red tail and the new black tail.....

  • y ou can do that with a darning needle. just thread the tail through the eye, and in a way "sew" it back in by going underneath stitches already done. go back and forth a bit so that there is no chance of the tails coming back out and unravelling the garment.

  • thanks so mucch for this different colour knitting its easier to understand and i finally know how to knit thanks soooo much!!!

  • huuuuuuuuuuuuuu very good

  • I am a beginning knitter trying to knit a scarf for my brother. Hehe, big brothers dont reject scarves from their little sisters even if it has a lot of mistakes in it. :) Anyway, I have two problems when changing colors: the ends are really loose, and also the new color looks pulled in like I tightened the tension but I don't think I did. I am using black, blue, and green %100 superwash merino wool. Does someone know how to help me keep it looking even when changing colors?

  • Rosadeguerra, try not to think too much about your tension when you are changing over to a new colour. I found that when I began to concentrate more on just the knitting itself, my work became far more uniform as a result. Be patient with yourself though, as this is still somewhat new to you. I had to learn from my knitting mistakes as well, and these days some of my friends tell me my work looks "machine made". LOL, I suppose one could take that as a compliment.

  • Your instructional knitting videos are, by far, the best on YouTube. Your explanations are direct and to the point, and you demonstrate slowly, so I can easily see what you are doing. Thanks so much!!!

  • This chick is sexy, just like me

  • wtf?

  • can you please show us how to knit a scarf - double sided stockinette stitch?

  • if you want front and back to look alike...and be "stickinette'esk" work a knitx1 purlx1 row, and repeat...this rib will make it reversable...and also look like stockinette on both sides

  • thank you!

  • shit..

  • Thank you! Can you show us on video what to do with those loose ends? I saw the comments that say they need to be weave, but I don't understand what they mean by that. This is my first time knitting. Thank you in advance Michelle, all your videos have been helpful.

  • Great! Thank you this has really helped me. Now I can change colors. So easy!

    Pen

  • ahhhhhhhhh thanks soo much

  • This was the only video about this that made sense to me! thanks!!!

  • great video. thanks for this!

  • :) Very cute!I think I'll make a red and black striped one.

  • how to you fix "the little bit of bulkyness"???

  • What I would do is a simple knot, so for example, I would gently pull the 'tail' of cream yarn, so that the knitted yard is closer to the knitting needle - to remove any slack/bulkiness. Then I would tie that tail end with it with the end of purple yarn just to secure it. Finally, I'd get a tapestry needle (u can purchase this at any haberdashery shop, or an online knitting yarn shop)and thread one colour tail at a time in a weaving motion through the corresponding colour of the knitted fabric

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THE LOOSE STRANDS??

    please help me..

  • You need a yarn, or tapestry needle. Thread your loose strands through your yarn needle, and weave them throughout your scarf so they are hidden.

  • What do you mean by weaving? Will you show us? And thank you so much for your videos. They help A LOT. Your's are the best videos I've seen; most simple and clear.

  • Umm...what do you do with the tails when your done with the scarf?

  • just weave them into the scarf with a needle.

  • How? The stitches are too small to stick in the needle.

  • Use a chrochet hook, I think. o_o

  • Weaving is done with a yarn or tapestry needle, not with the regular knitting needle. You are sort of sewing the tail into the stitches. Make sure to follow the pattern of your stitches so you don't have any weird loops or bunches.

  • That is exactly what I want to know

    SHE IS RETARDED

  • thanx sooooo much! this was very useful!

  • thanks for this!

it was really simple and easy to understand

  • Does anyone know how to change colour mid-row then change back to the previous colour. I am just starting out and am knitting coasters. The coasters have little motifs or letters on by using different stitches. But I want to make the picture stand out more by using a different colour for the image then go back to the previous one for the border areas. For example a coaster with a red heart and blue border. Hope this makes sense. Would appreciate any help. Is it the same as in the video?

  • hey that's my question too - if anyone knows do tell! :)

  • NICE WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR

  • Thanks bunches for putting this up!

    It helped so much!

  • The camera pulled in a bit too late. It shouldve zoomed in earlier.

  • Do us a favor next time. Paint all the fingernails on one hand the same color, and all the fingernails on the other hand a contrasting color. That way, it will be super-easy to see which hand does what. I also want to know how to weave in the extra yarn, and how to adjust the bulkiness. Thanks for posting!

  • She didn't switch hands or anything, so I don't see why you are having problems figuring out what hand does what. The right hand is doing all of the new yarn feed. I'm a brand new knitter who hasn't ever completed a project, and I can see that. I can see how the different colored nails can help in other videos, but it's not needed in this one.

  • How do you weave in the ends after you change each colour??

  • i can't figure it out either

  • what i did was i just looped it in and out from the end of the row to the other side... Then i tied a knot. HAHAHA! Works for me...

  • use a crochet hook and lift up a stitch near the end you want to weave, push the hook through the stitch and hook the loose end and pull it through. continue.

  • Great video! But... What do you do about the bulkiness resulting from the colour-change?

  • Hey thanks! I'm trying to make a Harry Potter Slytherin scarf and didn't know how to change the colors. So thanks!

  • Thank you so much! I've been so stressed recently trying to figure this out, but when I watched this video I was able to figure it out. I am so happy! Now I know how :D Thank you again!

  • holy shit! that's so easy!!!

i've been wanting to know how to do this for ages, i thought it was more complicated!!! thank you soooooooooo much

    :D

  • same here i never thought it could be so easy lol

  • I had no idea it was this easy! Thank you!!

  • i cant believe it is that simple! ive wanted to do this for ages but had no idea how.

    fab video:)
